33:1 Թէ Եղիական պատերազմն առ Տեւտամաւ. եւ մեր Զարմայր ընդ Եթովպացի զաւրուն լինել սակաւուք, եւ ի նոյն մահ:
| 33:1 The war of Ilium in the time of Tewtamus; the participation of our Zarmayr with a small Ethiopian army, and his death:

33:2 Երկուք այսոքիկ են, որք աշխատութիւն տագնապաւ մեզ ի վերայ ի քումմէդ հասուցանեն հարցասիրութենէ եւ համառաւտասիրութիւն, արագաբանութիւն. եւ այսոքիկ` պերճք եւ պայծառք, պղատոնականք իբր եղանել բանք. հեռի ի ստութենէ, եւ լի որ ինչ ընդդէմ ստութեան. եւ զայսոսիկ յառաջին մարդոյն մինչեւ զքեզ առ ժամայն պատմել:
| 33:2 There are two things deriving from your desire for knowledge that have imposed great labor upon us: brevity and rapidity; that our account should be elegant and lucid, like Platonic works, far from falsehood and full of what opposes falsehood; that we should carry the narrative from the first man down to yourself in the present:

33:3 Եւ այսոցիկ ի միասին պատահել անհնարին է:
| 33:3 To bring all these together is impossible:

33:4 Քանզի որ զամենայն ստեղծ, կարող գոլով ակնարկութեամբ ի քթթել ական զամենայն կացուցանել` ոչ այսպէս հաստատէ, այլ աւուրս որոշէ եւ կարգս ի ստեղծուածս. քանզի են ոմանք առաջնոյ եւ ոմանք երկրորդի եւ երրորդի եւ այլոցն աւուրց ստեղծուածք:
| 33:4 For although He who created everything was able in His providence to establish everything in the twinkling of an eye, yet He did not so act but distinguished the days and ranks among the creatures. For some are creatures of the first day, some of the second and third and other days:

33:5 Եւ այսու մեզ այսպիսի իմն ակնարկէ կարգս վարդապետութիւն Հոգւոյն:
| 33:5 And thus the teaching of the Spirit indicates to us similar ranks:

33:6 Իսկ զքո փափագ արտաքոյ այսպիսւոյ աստուածայնոյ տեսանեմք սահմանի, զի արդար եւ բնաւ եւ առ ժամայն ամենայնք քեզ եղիցին ասացեալ:
| 33:6 But we see that your desire goes beyond such a divine limit, so that everything must be told for you truly and accurately and in its proper time:

33:7 Այլ առ ի մէնջ այսոքիկ կա՛մ յերկար, եւ քեզ ըստ կամաց, կամ փոյթ, եւ քեզ ոչ հաճելիք:
| 33:7 But either we must narrate these matters at length to satisfy your desire, or rapidly, which will not please you:

33:8 Զի այսպէս ի քոյ հապճեպելոյ ահա ոչ ինչ յաղագս Մակեդոնացւոյն, եւ ոչ վասն Եղիականին ի կարգին նշանակեցաք, այլ զաւդեմք աւասիկ:
| 33:8 Thus, because of your great haste, behold we have not indicated in their place anything about the Macedonian or about the Ilian war; but we have added it here:

33:9 Ոչ ունիմք ասել, իմաստո՞ւն կամ անհանճար աստանաւր լինել մեզ հիւսն, պատկանաւո՞ր կամ ոչ` զայնոցիկ այժմ ուրեմն զկնի հեղուսելով բանս, զկարեւորսն եւ մերոյս արժանի շարադրութեանս:
| 33:9 I cannot say whether we are here acting like a wise or like an unskilled workman, one competent or not, in adding now at the end these stories, which are important and worthy of our history:

33:10 Եւ ո՞յք արդեաւք այսպիսեաց ճառից առաջինք, եթէ ոչ որք ի Հոմերոսէ պատմին. այն, որ վասն Եղիականին պատմի պատերազմին առ Տեւտամաւ Ասորեստանեայց:
| 33:10 What then are the first of such tales if not those narrated by Homer: the one that is told about the Ilian war in the time of Tewtamos the Assyrian:

33:11 Եւ մեր Զարմայր ի ծառայութեան Ասորեստանեայց սակաւուք ընդ Եթովպացի զաւրուն աւգնական Պռիամու, եւ անդ ի քաջացն Հելլենացւոց վիրաւորեալ մեռանի. այլ կամիմ յԱքիլլեայ, եւ մի՛ յայլմէ ումեքէ ի քաջացն:
| 33:11 and that our Zarmayr under the rule of the Assyrians helped Priam with a small Ethiopian army, was there wounded by the valiant Hellenes, and was killed - by Achilles, I would like to think, and not by any other hero:
