11:1 Յաղագս պատերազմին եւ մահուանն Բելայ:
| 11:1 Concerning the war and the death of Bēl:

11:2 Եւ յառաջ մատուցեալ զբանս իւր ասէ, թէ ի հաստատել Տիտանեանն Բելայ զթագաւորութիւն իւր առ ամենեսեան` առաքէ ի կողմն հիւսիսոյ զմի ոմն յորդւոց իւրոց առ Հայկ արամբք հաւատարմաւք, գալ նմա ի հնազանդութիւն եւ կեալ խաղաղութեամբ:
| 11:2 Continuing his narrative Mar Abas Catina says: when the Titan Bēl had confirmed his rule over everyone, he sent to the northern region to Hayk one of his sons with trustworthy men to bring him into obedience so they might live in peace:

11:3 Բնակեցեր, ասէ, ի մէջ ցրտութեան սառնամանեաց. այլ ջեռուցեալ մեղկեա՛ զցրտութիւն սառուցեալ քո հպարտացեալ բարուցդ, եւ հնազանդեալ ինձ` կեաց ի հանդարտութեան, ո՛ւր հաճոյ է քեզ յերկրիս իմում բնակութեան:
| 11:3 You have made your habitation,” he said, “ in the icy cold; now warm and melt the freezing cold of your haughty conduct, submit to me and live in tranquility in my empire wherever you please:

11:4 Եւ ի բաց դարձուցեալ Հայկայ զպատգամաւորսն Բելայ` խստութեամբ պատասխանեաց:
| 11:4 But Hayk sent back Bēl’s envoys with a firm response:

11:5 Դառնայ առաքեալն անդրէն ի Բաբելովն:
| 11:5 The messenger re turned to Babylon:
|
11:6 Ապա զաւրաժողով լինի ի վերայ նորա Տիտանեանն Բէլ ամբոխիւ հետեւակ զաւրաց. գայ հասանէ ի հիւսիսի, յերկիրն Արարադայ, մերձ ի տունն Կադմեայ:
| 11:6 Then the Titan Bēl mustered his army against him, and with a mass of infantry arrived in the north, in the land of Ararad near to the house of Cadmos:

11:7 Փախստական լինի Կադմոս առ Հայկ, քաջընթացիկս առաջի իւր առաքէ. «Գիտեա՛, ասէ, ո՛վ մեծդ դիւցազանց, զի դիմեալ գայ ի վերայ քո Բէլ յաւերժիւք քաջաւք եւ երկնադիզաւք հասակաւք սկայիւք մրցողաւք:
| 11:7 Cadmos fled to Hayk, sending swift runners before him. “ Know,” he said, “ O greatest of the heroes, that Bēl is advancing against you with valiant immortals and warrior giants of enormous height:

11:8 Եւ իմացեալ իմ զմերձ լինելն նորա ի տուն իմ` փախեայ, եւ գամ աւասիկ տագնապաւ:
| 11:8 And knowing that he was close to my house, I fled; and behold I come in great anxiety:
|
11:9 Արդ` աճապարեա՛ խորհել զոր ինչ գործելոց ես:
| 11:9 So be quick to decide what you will do:
|
11:10 Իսկ Բէլն, յանդուգն եւ անճոռնի զաւրութեամբ ամբոխին, որպէս յորձան ինչ սաստիկ ընդ զառ ի վայր հեղեղեալ` փութայր հասանել ի սահմանս բնակութեանն Հայկայ, ի սիրտ եւ ի մարմին վստահացեալ արանց զաւրաւորաց:
| 11:10 Now Bēl with the overweening and imposing force of his entourage, like an impetuous torrent pouring down, hastened to reach the borders of Hayk’s domain, trusting in the spirit and vigor of his soldiers:

11:11 Աստ ուշիմ եւ խոհեմ սկայն, քաջագանգուրն եւ խայտակնն, աճապարեալ հաւաքէ զորդիս իւր եւ զթոռունս, արս քաջս եւ աղեղնաւորս, թուով յոյժ նուազունս, եւ զայլսն եւս որ ընդ իւրով ձեռամբ. հասանէ յեզր ծովակի միոյ, որոյ աղի են ջուրքն, մանունս ունելով յինքեան ձկունս:
| 11:11 There the prudent and intelligent giant, with curly hair and sparkling eyes, hastily assembled his sons and grandsons, valiant men and skilled bowmen, very few in number, and the others who were under his authority. He came to the edge of a lake whose waters are salty and which contains small fish:

11:12 Եւ կոչեցեալ զզաւրս իւր` ասէ ցնոսա. «Յելանելն մեր հանդէպ ամբոխին Բելայ` դիպել ջանասցուք տեղւոյն, ուր անցեալ կայցէ ի մէջ խռան քաջացն Բէլ:
| 11:12 Summoning his army he addressed them: “ In going out against the force of Bēl, let us try to reach the place where Bēl stands in the midst of the crowd of his warriors:

11:13 Զի կա՛մ մեռցուք, եւ աղխ մեր ի ծառայութիւն Բելայ կացցէ, կամ զաջողութիւն մատանց մերոց ի նա ցուցեալ` ցրուեսցի ամբոխն, եւ մեք եղիցուք յաղթութիւն ստացեալք:
| 11:13 so that either we may die and our possessions will fall in servitude to Bēl, or showing him the success of our arms, we may scatter his host and gain the victory:

11:14 Եւ յառաջ կոյս անցեալ բովանդակ ասպարէզս` հասանեն ի միջոց ինչ դաշտաձեւ` լերանց բարձրագունից:
| 11:14 Advancing many stadia they came to a plain between very high mountains:
|
11:15 Եւ յաջմէ ջուրց հոսանաց ի բարձրաւանդակում կուռ կալով ի տեղւոջ, ի վեր զերեսս ամբարձեալ` երեւեցաւ նոցա բազմութիւն անկարգ հրոսակի ամբոխոյն Բելայ, ցան եւ ցիր յանդուգն յարձակմամբ ընդ երեսս երկրին սուրալով. իսկ Բէլ հեզ եւ հանդարտ ամբոխիւ մեծաւ ի ձախմէ ջուրցն ի վերայ ոստոյ միոյ, իբրեւ ի դիտանոցի:
| 11:15 and halted in an elevated spot to the right of streams of water. Raising their faces, they espied the disordered multitude of Bēl’s martial host scattered in insolent array and swarming over the surface of the land. But Bēl was standing calmly and patiently with a vast host to the left of the water on a hill, like a watchtower:

11:16 Ծանեաւ Հայկ զխումբ վառելոյ ջոկատին, յորում Բէլ առաջի ամբոխին եկեալ հասեալ ընտրիւք եւ վառելովք ոմամբք. եւ երկար միջոց ճանապարհի ընդ նա եւ ընդ ամբոխն:
| 11:16 Hayk recognized the armed band where Bēl had come to the front of the troop with a few chosen armed men, and there was a wide distance between him and his force:

11:17 Եւ ինքն գլխանոց ագուցեալ երկաթի, նշանաւորաւք վերջիւք, եւ տախտակս պղնձիս թիկանց եւ լանջաց, եւ պահպանակս բարձից եւ բազկաց. գաւտեւորեալ զմէջսն, եւ յահեկէ զսուրն երկսայրի. եւ նիզակ անարի ի ձեռին իւրում աջոյ, եւ յահեկումն վահան, եւ ընտիրք յաջմէ եւ ի ձախմէ:
| 11:17 He wore a helmet of iron with distinctive plumes and sheaves of bronze over his back and breast; armor covered his legs and arms. A belt girded his waist and from his left breast hung a two- edged sword. A monstrous lance was in his right hand and in the left a shield. Chosen men stood to the right and left:

11:18 Եւ տեսեալ Հայկին զՏիտանեանն կուռ վառեալ, եւ զարս ընտիրս ընդ նմա աջինս եւ ահեկինս` կարգէ զԱրամանեակն երկու եղբարբք ընդ աջմէ, եւ զԿադմոս եւ զայլս երկուս յորդւոց իւրոց ի ձախմէ, զի արք կորովիք էին յաղեղն եւ ի սուսեր. եւ ինքն առաջի, եւ զայլս հրոսակին զկնի իւր կարգեաց. երեքանկիւնի իմն կարգեաց ձեւով, հանդարտ յառաջ մատուցեալ:
| 11:18 Seeing the Titan so solidly armed and the chosen troops on either side of him, Hayk set Aramaneak with two brothers on his right and Cadmos with the other two of his sons on his left, for they were powerful men with the bow and the sword. He himself stood in front and set the other troops behind him, forming them into a triangle. Thus, they gently advanced:

11:19 Եւ հասեալ երկոցունց կողմանց սկայիցն ի միմեանս` ահագին դղրդմունս ի վերայ երկրի առնէին շահատակելով, եւ ահս պակուցանողս տարազուք յարձակմանցն սկայազունքն զմիմեամբք արկանէին:
| 11:19 The giants of both sides came to grips and in their assault raised a fearsome roar over the earth; by the fierceness of their attacks the giants brought a terrifying fear upon each other:

11:20 Անդ ոչ սակաւք յերկոցունց կողմանց արք յաղթանդամք բերանոյ սրոյ դիպեալք` տապալ յերկիր կործանէին, եւ մարտն յերկոցունց կողմանց մնայր անպարտելի:
| 11:20 Then not a few huge men from both sides met the mouth of the sword, rolled to the ground, and perished. On either side the battle remained undecided:

11:21 Զայսպիսի անակնունելի դիպուած տարակուսանաց տեսեալ արքայն Տիտանեան զարհուրեցաւ, եւ ի նոյն բլուր ուստի էջն` վերջոտնեալ ելանէր. քանզի խորհէր ի միջոցի ամբոխին ամրանալ, մինչեւ հասցէ բովանդակ զաւրն, զի միւսանգամ ճակատ յաւրինեսցէ:
| 11:21 Seeing such an unexpectedly uncertain outcome, the king of the Titans took fright and withdrew, retreating to the same hill from which he had descended, for he thought he would be safe in the midst of his host until the whole army should arrive and he could once more set his battle- line in order:

11:22 Զայս իմացեալ աղեղնաւորին Հայկայ` յառաջ վարէ զինքն, մաւտ հասանէ յարքայն, լի քարշէ զլայնալիճն, դիպեցուցանէ զերեքթեւեանն կրծից տախտակին, եւ շեշտ ընդ մէջ թիկանցն թափանցիկ լեալ` յերկիր հարստի սլաքն. եւ այսպէս ճոխացեալն Տիտանեան կործանի յերկիր զարկուցեալ, եւ փչէ զոգին:
| 11:22 Realizing this, the skillful archer Hayk advanced, and approaching the king pulled taut his wide- arced bow and shot the triple- fleched arrow at his breast armor; the arrow pierced right through his back and stuck in the ground. So, perished the domineering Titan; he was struck to the ground and breathed out his spirit:

11:23 Իսկ ամբոխն տեսեալ զայսպիսի ահագին գործ քաջութեան` փախեան իւրաքանչիւր դէպ երեսաց իւրեանց:
| 11:23 But his host, seeing this fearsome deed of valor, fled each one before his own face:
|
11:24 Եւ վասն այսորիկ այսչափ բաւական լիցի ասել:
| 11:24 Let this be enough said on this matter:
|
11:25 Բայց զտեղի ճակատուն շինէ դաստակերտ, եւ անուն կոչէ Հայք, վասն յաղթութեան պատերազմին. այսորիկ աղագաւ եւ գաւառն այժմ անուանի Հայոց ձոր:
| 11:25 On the site of the battle he built a villa and called it Hayk’ on account of his victory; for that reason, the district is now called Hayots’ dzor:
|
11:26 Իսկ զբլուրն, ուր քաջամարտկաւքն անկաւ Բէլ` անուանեաց Հայկ Գերեզմանս. որ այժմ ասին Գերեզմանակք:
| 11:26 But the hill where Bēl with his warriors fell Hayk called Gerezmans; today it is called Gerezmank’:

11:27 Բայց զդիակն Բելայ պաճուճեալ դեղովք, ասէ, հրամայէ Հայկ տանել ի Հարք, եւ թաղել ի բարձրաւանդակ տեղւոջ, ի տեսիլ կանանց եւ որդւոց իւրոց:
| 11:27 But Hayk embalmed the corpse of Bēl with drugs, he says, and ordered it to be taken to Hark’ and to be buried in a high place in the view of his wives and sons:

11:28 Իսկ աշխարհս մեր կոչի յանուն նախնւոյն մերոյ Հայկայ` Հայք:
| 11:28 Now our country is called Hayk’ after the name of our ancestor Hayk:
