29:1 Թուղթ Աժդահակայ. յետ որոյ եւ յաւժարութիւն Տիգրանայ, յուղարկումն Տիգրանուհեայ ի Մարս:
| 29:1 The letter of Azhdahak, the ensuing agreement of Tigran, and the journey of Tigranuhi to Media:

29:2 Գիտէ սիրելի եղբայրութիւնդ քո, ոչ ինչ աւգտակարագոյն ի կեանս աշխարհիս ի դիցն մեզ պարգեւեալ քան զսիրելեաց բազմութիւն, եւ այս` իմաստնոց արդեաւք եւ հզաւրագունից. զի այսպէս եւ արտաքուստ ոչ ի վերայ համարձակին խռովութիւնք, եւ եկեալքն վաղվաղակի հերքին. իսկ ի ներքս ոչ զմուտն յումեքէ գտեալ այսպիսւոյ չարութեան` հալածեալ լինին:
| 29:2 Your beloved fraternity knows that nothing more useful in the life of this world has been granted us by the gods than a great number of friends, and especially truly wise and powerful ones. For thus troubles from outside do not disturb us, and those that do reach us are quickly driven away; while no such evil finds an entry within but is expelled:

29:3 Արդ` զայսպիսի շահ աւգտութեան, որ ի բարեկամութենէ լինի, տեսանելով` խորհեցայ եւս հաստատուն եւ խորագոյն զսէրն որ ի միջի մերում է, հաստատել. զի երկոքեան յամենայն կողմանց ամրացեալք` ողջ եւ անշարժ զտէրութիւն մեր կալցուք:
| 29:3 Now, seeing that such useful advantages accrue from friendship, I have decided to confirm even more firmly and deeply the love that exists between us, so that we may both be secure on every side and also keep our empires secure and stable:

29:4 Եւ այս լինի ի տալն քում զաւրիորդդ Հայոց մեծաց, զքոյր քո Տիգրանուհի, ինձ կնութեան. թէ արդեաւք եւ բարի համարեսցիս դմա, զի թագուհեաց թագուհի լիցի:
| 29:4 And this will occur if you give me in marriage the princess of Greater Armenia, your sister Tigranuhi, if indeed you consider this advantageous to her that she become queen of queens:

29:5 Ողջ լեր, թագակից մեր եւ սիրելի եղբայր:
| 29:5 Be well our fellow sovereign and beloved brother:
|
29:6 Եւ առանց յերկարելոյ զբանս ասացից:
| 29:6 Without prolonging the story I shall say:

29:7 Գայ առաքեալն եւ կատարէ յաղագս աւրիորդին գեղեցկի. զի յանձն առեալ Տիգրանայ` տայ զքոյր իւր Տիգրանուհի Աժդահակայ կնութեան:
| 29:7 the messenger arrived and accomplished the mission concerning the beautiful maiden, for Tigran agreed and gave his sister Tigranuhi in marriage to Azhdahak:

29:8 Եւ չեւ եւս գիտելով զառ ի նմանէ դաւաճանութիւնն` յուղարկէ զքոյր իւր որպէս աւրէն է թագաւորաց:
| 29:8 He did not yet know of the latter’s plot and sent his sister according to royal custom:

29:9 Զոր առեալ Աժդահակայ, ոչ միայն վասն նենգին որ ի սրտի իւրում, այլ եւ վասն գեղեցկութեանն, առաջին իւրոց կանանցն կարգէ եւ զչարութիւնն ի ներքոյ ոստայն հինու:
| 29:9 Azhdahak received her, and not only because of the deceit in his heart but also because of her beauty made her the first in rank of his wives, though underneath he was spinning an evil web:
