12:1 Խաղալն Արտաշիսի յարեւմուտս, եւ ձերբակալ առնել զԿրիւսոս, եւ աւարել ընձեռել Հայոց զպատկերս կռոց:
| 12:1 Artashēs marches to the east; he lakes Chroesus prisoner and sends as spoils to Armenia the images of the idols:

12:2 Յայնժամ հրաման տայ Արտաշէս` զաւր յարուցանել յարեւելից եւ ի հիւսիսոյ բազում յոյժ, մինչեւ ոչ գիտել նմա զհամարն, այլ յանցս եւ յիջեւանս քար ըստ մարդաթուի կարկառ` նշան բազմութեանն թողուլ:
| 12:2 Then Artashēs ordered an army to be raised from the east and north, such a great one that he did not know its number; but on the roads and resting places he ordered each man to leave a stone to form a cairn as an indication of the multitude:

12:3 Եւ խաղայ այնուհետեւ յարեւմուտս, եւ ձերբակալ առնէ զԿրիւսոս թագաւոր Լիւդացւոց:
| 12:3 He then marched to the west and took as prisoner Chroesus, king of Lydia:

12:4 Եւ գտեալ յԱսիայ պղնձաձոյլ ոսկեզաւծ պատկերս զԱրտեմիդեայ եւ զՀերակլեայ եւ զԱպողոնի` տայ բերել յաշխարհս մեր, զի կանգնեսցեն յԱրմաւիր:
| 12:4 Finding in Asia images of Artemis, Heracles, and Apollo that were cast in bronze and gilded, he had them brought to our country to be set up in Armavir:

12:5 Զոր առեալ քրմապետացն, որ էին յազգէն Վահունեաց` զԱպողոնին եւ զԱրտեմիդայն կանգնեցին յԱրմաւիր. իսկ զՀերակլեայն զառնապատկերն, որ արարեալ էր ի Սկիւղեայ եւ ի Դիպինոսէ կրետացւոյ, զՎահագն իւրեանց վարկանելով նախնի` կանգնեցին ի Տարաւն, յիւրեանց սեպհական գիւղն յԱշտիշատ, յետ մահուանն Արտաշիսի:
| 12:5 The chief priests, who were of the Vahuni family, took those of Apollo and Artemis and set them up in Armavir; but the statue of Heracles, which had been made by Scyllas and Dipenes of Crete, they supposed to be Vahagn their ancestor and so set it up in Tarawn in their own village of Ashtishat after the death of Artashēs:

12:6 Բայց Արտաշիսի նուաճեալ զցամաքս միջոցաց ծովուցն երկոցունց` լնու զՈվկիանոս բազմութեամբ նաւաց, ծառայեցուցանել կամելով զբոլոր արեւմուտս:
| 12:6 But Artashēs, having subdued the land between the two seas, filled the ocean with the multitude of his ships, wishing to subject the whole west:

12:7 Քանզի մեծ յոյզք խռովութեանց եղեալ ի Հռովմ` ոչ ոք ընդդիմանայ նմա հզաւրապէս:
| 12:7 Because great tumults were occurring in Rome, no one offered him strong resistance:

12:8 Այլ ոչ գիտեմ ասել յո՛րպիսի ազդմանէ, ահագին իմն աղմուկ լեալ շփոթից եւ բազմութեան զաւրացն զմիմեանս կոտորեալ. իսկ Արտաշէս փախուցեալ մեռանի, որպէս ասեն` յիւրոց զաւրացն, թագաւորեալ ամս քսան եւ հինգ:
| 12:8 But I cannot say from what cause arose a fearful turmoil, and the innumerable troops slaughtered each other. However, Artashēs fled and was killed, as they say, by his own army. He had reigned for twenty- five years:

12:9 Բայց եւ յԵլլադայ առեալ պատկերս զԴիոսի, զԱրտեմիդեայ, զԱթենայ, զՀեփեստու, զԱփրոդիտեայ` տայ բերել ի Հայս. որք ոչ ժամանեալ միջամուխ լինել յաշխարհս` լսեն զբաւթ մահուանն Արտաշիսի. եւ փախուցեալ ընկենուն զպատկերսն յամրոցն յԱնի. եւ քուրմք զնոցին զհետ լինելով, դադարեն առ նոսա:
| 12:9 He also took from Hellas images of Zeus, Artemis, Athena, Hephaistos, and Aphrodite, and had them brought to Armenia. But before they had arrived in our land the sad news of Artashēs’ death was heard. Those bringing them fled and brought the images to the fortress of Ani. The priests followed and stayed with them:
