3:1 Թագաւորեցուցանել զՎաղարշակ աշխարհիս Հայոց:
| 3:1 Vaḷarshak is made king of Armenia:

3:2 Ի ժամանակին յայնմիկ թագաւորեցուցանէ զեղբայր իւր զՎաղարշակ աշխարհիս Հայոց, զհիւսիսի եւ զարեւմուտս տալով նմա սահմանս:
| 3:2 At that time he made his brother Vaḷarshak king of Armenia, giving him the regions of the north and west:

3:3 Սա, որպէս յառաջնում մերում մատենին գրեցաք, այր քաջ եւ խոհեմ` ընդարձակ տիրեաց ի վերայ սահմանաց իւրոց, եւ կարգս կենցաղականս, որչափ մարթէր, սահմանեաց աշխարհիս. եւ նախարարութիւնս եւ նոցին նախարարութեանցն նահապետութիւնս հաստատեաց զարս պիտանիս, որք ի զաւակաց նախնւոյն մերոյ Հայկայ եւ յայլոց:
| 3:3 The latter, as we wrote in our first book, was a valiant and prudent man. He extended his authority over his territories; and as far as he was able, he fixed the statutes of civil life for this country. He instituted principalities and established as the dynasts of the principalities competent men from among the descendants of our ancestor Hayk and others:

3:4 Քանզի յետ սանձահարելոյ զՄակեդոնացիս եւ դադարելոյ պատերազմացն` սկիզբն առնէ բարեգործութեանց Պարթեւն քաջ. նախ եւ առաջին փոխարէն բարեաց հատուցանելով առնն զաւրաւորի եւ իմաստնոյ, որ ի Հրէիցն` Շամբատայ Բագրատ. տալով նմա իշխանութիւն ազգաւ թագադիր լինել Արշակունեաց. եւ որ ի նմանէ ծնեալ ազգ` լինել կոչմամբ յանուն նորա Բագրատունի, որ է այժմ մեծ նախարարութիւն ի մէջ աշխարհիս:
| 3:4 After bridling the Macedonians and putting an end to the wars, the valiant Parthian made a beginning to his benevolent actions. First and foremost, he compensated for his benefits the powerful and wise man, Shambat Bagarat, who was a Jew, by giving him the right for his family to be the coronants of the Arsacids, and for the family descended from him to be called Bagratuni after his name - which is now a great principality in our land:

3:5 Քանզի այս Բագարատ նախաձեռն ընծայ ըստ կամաց մատոյց զինքն Վաղարշակայ յառաջ քան զպատերազմունսն Արշակայ ընդ Մակեդոնացիսն, եւ սա ի դրան արքունի:
| 3:5 For this Bagarat had voluntarily offered his services to Vaḷarshak before Arshak’s wars against the Macedonians, and he was a member of the royal court:

3:6 Իսկ ի ծայրս հայերէն խաւսից կողմնակալ, իշխան բիւրուց եւ հազարաց, յարեւմուտից կուսէ:
| 3:6 Then he was made governor over the limits of the regions where Armenian is spoken and prince of eleven thousand men in the west:

3:7 Բայց դարձցուք անդրէն ի վեր, պատմելով յաղագս պատերազմին Վաղարշակայ ընդ Պոնտացիս, եւ որ ի Փռիւգիայ, եւ վասն յաղթութեանն:
| 3:7 But let us turn back and tell of the war of Vaḷarshak with Pontus and with Phrygia, and of his victory:
