49:2 Արտաշիսի վերջնոյ գործք` բազում ինչ յայտնի են քեզ ի վիպասանացն, որ պատմին ի Գողթան - շինել զքաղաքն, եւ խնամութիւն ընդ Ալանս, եւ ծնունդք զարմիցն, եւ իբր տրփանք Սաթինկան ընդ Վիշապազունսն` առասպելաբար, այս ինքն ընդ զարմս Աժդահակայ, որ ունին զամենայն զառ ստորոտովն Մասեաց. մարտ ընդ նոսա եւ քայքայումն յիշխանութենէն, եւ սպանումն նոցա եւ հրկիզութիւն շինուածոցն, եւ նախանձ որդւոցն Արտաշիսի եւ գրգռութիւն ընդ միմեանս ի ձեռն կանանցն:
| 49:2 The deeds of the last Artashēs are mostly revealed to you from the tales told in Goḷt’n: the building of the city, the alliance with the Alans and the birth of their offspring, the allegorical passion of Sat’inik for the descendants of the vishaps, according to the fable - that is, for the descendants of Azhdahak who held all the land at the foot of Masis; the war against them and their fall from power, their slaughter, and the burning of their homes; the envy of the sons of Artashēs and their mutual provocation brought about by their wives:

49:3 Այս ամենայն, որպէս ասացաք, յայտնի են քեզ յերգս վիպասանացն. բայց յիշատակեսցուք եւ մեք կարճառաւտիւք, եւ զայլաբանութիւնն ճշմարտեսցուք:
| 49:3 all this, as we said, is revealed to you in the songs of the storytellers. But we too shall recall them briefly and give the true meaning of the allegory:

49:4 Երթեալ Արտաշիսի ի տեղին, ուր խառնին Երասխ եւ Մեծամաւր, եւ հաճեալ ընդ բլուրն` շինէ քաղաք յիւր անուն անուանեալ Արտաշատ:
| 49:4 Artashēs came to the place where the Araxes and Metsamawr join; pleased with the hill he built there a city, which he called after his own name Artashat:

49:5 Ձեռնտու լինի նմա եւ Երասխ փայտիւք մայրեաց. վասն որոյ անաշխատ եւ երագ շինեալ` կանգնէ ի նմա մեհեան, եւ փոխէ ի նա ի Բագարանէ զպատկերն Արտեմիդեայ եւ զամենայն կուռս հայրենիս. բայց զԱպողոնի պատկերն արտաքոյ քաղաքին կանգնէ հուպ ի ճանապարհն:
| 49:5 The Araxes provided him with pine wood, so it was built quickly and without labor. He erected in it a temple and transferred to it from Bagaran the statue of Artemis and all the ancestral idols. But the statue of Apollo he put up outside the city near the road:

49:6 Եւ յարուցանէ ի քաղաքէն Երուանդայ զգերութիւն Հրէիցն, որ փոխեալ էին անդր յԱրմաւրայ, եւ նստուցանէ զնոսա յԱրտաշատ:
| 49:6 They brought from Eruand’s capital the Jewish captives who had been transferred there from Armavir, and he settled them in Artashat:

49:7 Նա եւ զամենայն վայելչութիւն քաղաքին Երուանդայ, զոր տարեալ էր յԱրմաւրայ եւ զոր անդէն արարեալ նորա` փոխէ յԱրտաշատ. եւ առաւել եւս յինքենէ յաւրինէ իբրեւ զքաղաք արքայանիստ:
| 49:7 Similarly all the splendors of Eruand’s capital that the latter had brought from Armavir, plus those that he had constructed there, Artashēs transferred to Artashat. And he embellished the city even further himself as the royal capital:
