59:1 Որ ինչ արուեստից գիտութիւն յաւուրս Արտաշիսի:
| 59:1 Knowledge of the arts in the days of Artashēs:

59:2 Քանզի բազում ինչ գործք յաւուրս Արտաշիսի գործեցան, վասն այնորիկ ի բազում ճառս կոտորեցաք, զի մի՛ երկայնութիւն բանից տաղտկութիւն ընթերցողացն լինիցի. որոյ է վերջին ճառս այսպիսի ինչ, յիշատակել եւ զայլսն եւս որ ինչ ի ժամանակս Արտաշիսի:
| 59:2 Because many deeds were performed in the days of Artashēs, therefore we have divided them into many chapters lest our readers be wearied by the length of the account. This last chapter has the purpose of recording still other aspects of the period of Artashēs:

59:3 Զի թէպէտ եւ այլն ամենայն, զոր յիշատակեցաք յառաջագոյն ճառիցն, կարգք եւ սովորութիւնք գեղեցիկք հաստատեցան ի Վաղարշակայ եւ յայլոց առաջնոց թագաւորացն` այլ ի մեծամեծ արուեստից եւ ի գիտութեանց ունայնացեալք էին, որպէս հինից եւ ասպատակաց պարապեալք, եւ այսպիսի գիտութեանց կամ անփոյթ արարեալք, եւ կամ ոչ հասեալք. զշաբաթուց ասեմ եւ զամսոց եւ զտարեաց բոլորմանց:
| 59:3 Although everything else that we recorded in the preceding chapters, the order and good customs, was established by Vaḷarshak and the other early kings, yet they were neglectful of the noble arts and sciences, being occupied with brigands and invasions. And so, either they did not care for such sciences or were unversed in them - I am speaking of the cycles of weeks, months, and years:

59:4 Քանզի ոչ այսպիսի ինչ ճանաչիւր առ նոսա, այլոց ազգաց վարելով. եւ ոչ ի ծովակս աշխարհիս նաւագնացութիւնք, եւ ոչ ի վերայ գետոց ճանապարհորդութիւնք, եւ ոչ գործիք ձկանց որսոց. այլ եւ ոչ յամենայն տեղիս երկրագործութիւնք, բայց դոյզն ուրեք. այլ ըստ աւրինակի հիւսիսականաց կողմանց շաղղակերութեամբ եւ այլովք այսպիսեաւք կեցեալք:
| 59:4 Nothing of this kind was known among them, although other nations used them. Nor was there navigaion on the lakes of our country, nor travel over the rivers, nor any instruments for fishing; not even agriculture was practiced everywhere, but in scattered places. In the manner of the northern regions they lived by eating carrion and similar food:
