63:1 Յաղագս Տրդատայ Բագրատունւոյ եւ անուանց ազգի նորա առաջնոց:
| 63:1 Concerning Trdat Bagratuni and the first names of his family:

63:2 Տրդատ ոմն յազգէն Բագրատունեաց, որդի Սմբատուհեայ դստեր քաջին Սմբատայ, այր սրտեայ եւ ուժեղ, կարճ հասակաւ եւ գծուծ տեսլեամբ, զոր իւր փեսայացոյց արքայ Տիրան ի դուստր իւր յԵրանեակ:
| 63:2 King Tiran married his daughter Eraneak to a certain Trdat of the Bagratuni family, the son of Smbatuhi, daughter of the valiant Smbat, a spirited and powerful man, short in stature and ugly in appearance:

63:3 Որոյ ատեցեալ զայր իւր զՏրդատ, պչրանաւք եւ պռստելով կեայր զաւրհանապազ, աւաղելով զինքն, իբր թէ չքնաղագեղ ընդ վատակերպւոյ եւ քաջատոհմիկ ընդ վատթարազգւոյ բնակէ:
| 63:3 She hated her husband Trdat and was continuously grumbling and complaining, lamenting that she, a beautiful woman, lived with an ugly man, and that being of noble family she lived with a man of ignoble origin:

63:4 Ընդ որ զայրացեալ Տրդատայ` յաւուր միում գանէ զնա սաստկապէս. եւ կտրեալ զդեղձան հերսն եւ զվարսիցն փետտեալ զխոպոպիս` հրամայէ քարշել, արտաքս ընկենուլ ի սենեկէն:
| 63:4 At this Trdat was angry, and one day he beat her severely. He clipped her blond hair, pulled off her thick locks, and ordered her to be dragged outside and thrown from the room:

63:5 Եւ ինքն գնաց ապստամբեալ ի կողմանս ամրութեանն Մարաց. եւ հասեալ ի Սիւնեաց աշխարհն` ժամանէ նմա համբաւ մահուանն Տիրանայ, զոր լուեալ` դադարէ անդ:
| 63:5 He himself went in rebellion to the secure regions of Media. After he had arrived in the land of Siunik’, the news of Tiran’s death reached him; on hearing it he stopped there:

63:6 Եւ եղեւ յաւուր միում կոչել զնա յընթրիս Բակրոյ նահապետին Սիւնեաց. եւ յուրախանալն գինւով, տեսեալ Տրդատայ զկին մի, զի յոյժ գեղեցիկ էր եւ երգէր ձեռամբ, որում անուն էր Նազինիկ` տրփացաւ եւ ասէ ցԲակուր. «Տո՛ւր ինձ զվարձակս զայս». եւ նա ասէ. «Ոչ տամ, զի հարճ իմ է:
| 63:6 It happened one day that Bakur, the prince of Siunik’, invited him to a banquet. When they had become merry with wine, Trdat saw a woman who was very beautiful and was playing; her name was Nazinik. He was enamored of her and said to Bakur: “ Give me this singer.” He replied: “ No, for she is my concubine:

63:7 Իսկ Տրդատայ բուռն հարեալ ի կինն` յինքն քարշեալ ի բազմականն, շամբշեալ վաւաշէր ըստ աւրինակի երիտասարդի անարգել տարփաւորի:
| 63:7 But Trdat seized the woman by force, drew her to himself on the couch, and passionately worked his lust like an incontinent and ardent young man:

63:8 Ընդ որ խանդացեալ Բակրոյ` յարեաւ հանել զնա ի նմանէ:
| 63:8 Bakur, mad with jealousy, rose to pull him from her:

63:9 Բայց յոտն կացեալ Տրդատայ, ծաղկակալ սկտեղբն իբրեւ զինու վարեցաւ, նա եւ զբարձակիցսն ի բազմականացն ի բաց պուղեաց:
| 63:9 But Trdat stood up, took a vase of flowers as a weapon, and drove the guests out from the feast:

63:10 Եւ անդ էր տեսանել նոր զոմն Ոդիսեւս` զՊենելոպայ զսեղեխս սատակելով, եւ կամ զՂապիթեայցն եւ զՅուշկապարկացն կռիւս ի վերայ Պերիթեայ հարսանեացն:
| 63:10 There one could see a new Odysseus slaughtering the suitors of Penelope, or the struggle of the Lapiths and the Centaurs at the marriage of Perithous:

63:11 Եւ այնպէս յիւր վանսն եկեալ, իսկոյն ի ձի ելեալ` հանդերձ հարճիւն ի Սպեր գնաց:
| 63:11 And thus, coming to his own house, he immediately mounted his horse and went to Sper with the concubine:

63:12 Զայս աւելորդ եղեւ պատմել մեզ զնահատակութիւն առնն ցանկասիրի:
| 63:12 It is superfluous for us to say more about the prowess of this lascivious man:

63:13 Բայց գիտեա՛, զի ի թողուլ ազգին Բագրատունեաց զաւրէնս հարցն` նախ խժական ժառանգեցին յորջորջումն - Բիւրատ եւ Սմբատ եւ այլ այսպիսի կոչմունս, զրկեալ ի նախնական անուանցն, որպէս կոչէին յառաջ քան զուրանալն - Բագադիա, Տուբիա, Սենեքիա, Ասուդ, Սափատիա, Վազարիա, Ենանոս:
| 63:13 But know that when the Bagratuni family abandoned their ancestral laws, they first received barbarous names: Biurat, and Smbat, and other similar appellations, being deprived of their traditional names by which they were called before their apostasy: Bagadia, Tubia, Senek’ia, Asud, Sap’at’ia, Vazaria, Enanos:

63:14 Եւ ինձ թուի, թէ որ այժմդ կոչին Բագրատունիք Բագարատ` Բագադիա է դա, եւ Ասուդ` Աշոտ. դոյնպէս եւ Վազարիա` Վարազ, որպէս Շամբատ` Սմբատ:
| 63:14 And it seems to me that the name Bagarat by which the Bagratunik’ are now called is Bagadia, and Asud is Ashot, and similarly Vazaria is Varaz, just as Shambat is Smbat:
