41:1 Թագաւորութիւն Արշակայ եւ Վաղարշակայ:
| 41:1 The reigns of Arshak and Vaḷarshak:

41:2 Ապա փոխանակ Վարազդատայ թագաւորեցոյց Հայոց Թէոդոս մեծ զերկուս որդիսն Պապայ զԱրշակ եւ զՎաղարշակ, այսպիսի ինչ խորհեցեալ, որպէս թէ ոչ միաբանեսցին երկոքին յապստամբութիւն:
| 41:2 Then in succession to Varazdat, Theodosius the Great made Pap’s two sons Arshak and Vaḷarshak kings of Armenia on the assumption that they would not both unite in revolt:

41:3 Եւ անդէն պահելով զմայր մանկանցն, արձակէ զնոսա հանդերձ վերակացուաւք յինքենէ, արամբք հաւատարմաւք եւ զաւրու:
| 41:3 Keeping there in Byzantium the mother of these youths, he sent them off with governors appointed by himself, faithful men, and with an army:

41:4 Որք եկեալ կալան զաշխարհս մեր եւ տիրեցին սմա արիաբար մարտիւք ընդ Պարսս:
| 41:4 They came and took possession of our land and ruled over it after violent battles against the Persians:

41:5 Եւ առին իւրեանց կանայս, Արշակ` զդուստր Բաբկան Սիւնեաց նահապետի, եւ Վաղարշակ` զդուստր Սահակայ ասպետի, որ ի նմին ամի վախճանեցաւ:
| 41:5 And they took wives for themselves: Arshak, the daughter of Babik, prince of Siunik’, and Vaḷarshak, the daughter of Sahak the aspet. Vaḷarshak died that same year:

41:6 Բայց յերկրորդ ամին Արշակայ եկաց յեպիսկոպոսապետութիւն Հայոց Ասպուրակէս, ազգական Շահակայ եւ Զաւենայ, ամս հինգ:
| 41:6 In Arshak’s second year Aspurakēs became archbishop of Armenia for five years; he was related to Shahak and Zavēn:

41:7 Իսկ մեծն Թէոդոս ելեալ ի պատերազմ` ի Միդուլանոն հիւանդացեալ մեռաւ, թողեալ զթագաւորութիւնն որդւոց իւրոց, Արկադեայ զԲիւզանդեայն եւ Ոնորեայ զՀռոմայն. որք ոչ գովելիք եւ արժանաւորք հայրենականացն գտան առաքինութեանց:
| 41:7 Theodosius the Great, going out to war, fell ill at Milan and died, leaving the empire to his sons: Byzantium to Arcadius and Rome to Honorius. But they proved neither praiseworthy nor worthy of their father’s virtues:
