59:1 Շինուած Կարնոյ քաղաքին, որ կոչի Թէոդուպաւլիս:
| 59:1 The building of the city of Karin, which is called Theodosiopolis:

59:2 Անատոլեայ զաւրավարի ընկալեալ զհրամանն արքունի, եւ եկեալ յաշխարհս մեր եւ շրջեալ ընդ բազում կողմանս մեր` հաճի ի գաւառին Կարնոյ շինել զքաղաքն արգաւանդահող, շատաջուր եւ բերրի. իբր միջոց վարկուցեալ զվայրսն, ոչ կարի ի բացեայ ի տեղեացն, ուր Եփրատայ մասինն ինչ բղխեն աղբիւրք եւ հանդարտ գնացիւք յառաջացեալ ծովանան մաւրաբար երեւութիւք. յորում անբաւութիւնք ձկանց եւ զանազան հաւուց ճարակաւորաց, յորոց ի ձուոցն միայն կերակրեալ լինէին բնակիչքն:
| 59:2 After the general Anatolius, on receiving the royal command, had come to our country and traveled through many of our provinces, he decided to build a city in the province of Karin, a fertile land, rich in water and crops. He judged the site to be the center of the country, not very distant from the places where the sources of part of the Euphrates gush forth and advancing in their gentle course grow into a sea with the appearance of a marsh. In it are innumerable fish and various feeding birds, from whose eggs alone the inhabitants are nourished:

59:3 Եւ զեզերբ մաւրին շամբք եւ բազմութիւն եղեգանց. եւ դաշտքն ունին զթանձրութիւն խոտոց եւ զքաջաբերութիւն սերմանաւոր պտղոց:
| 59:3 Along the edge of the marsh are canes and a multitude of reeds; the plains have an abundance of grass and are prolific in citrus fruit:

59:4 Եւ լերինքն լի են երէովք կճղակաբաշխիւք եւ որոճայնովք. նա եւ զանասնոց պաճարս բազմացուցանեն, մեծահասակս, քաջամարմինս եւ յոյրս ցուցանեն, համակեալս ի գիրութիւն:
| 59:4 the mountains are full of cloven- footed and ruminant beasts, so the herds of animals increase, they grow to a great size and strength, and exhibit wonderful fatness:

59:5 Եւ առ ստորոտով մի գեղեցկանիստ լերինն գտեալ բազում աղբիւրս ականակիտս եւ մանունս բղխեալ` անդ ետեղագրեաց զքաղաքն. զորով շրջափակեալ խոր փոսիւ` անդնդալիր հաստատեաց զհիմունս պատուարին. եւ ի վերայ բարձրաբերձ աշտարակս ահագինս շինեաց, յորոց զառաջինն Թէոդոս անուանեաց ի պատիւ Թէոդոսի:
| 59:5 At the foot of the pretty mountain he found many small crystal- clear springs flowing forth, and at that spot he founded the city. Surrounding it with a deep ditch, he set the foundations of the wall at a great depth; above it he built very high and fearsome towers, the first of which he named Theodosius in honor of Theodosius:

59:6 Եւ ի նմանէ եւ անդր շինեաց աշտարակս ժայռաւորս իբրեւ զնաւացռուկս, եւ առանցս գոգաւոր խորշիւք, որք ընդդէմ հային լերինն:
| 59:6 Beyond this he built jutting towers like ships’ prows and passages with hollow compartments facing the mountain:

59:7 Սապէս եւ ընդդէմ դաշտին հիւսիսոյ. իսկ ընդդէմ արեւելից եւ արեւմտից կանգնեաց աշտարակս բոլորաձեւս:
| 59:7 He did the same on the northern side facing the plain; but to the east and west he erected circular towers:

59:8 Եւ ի մէջ քաղաքին ի բարձրաւանդակ վայրի մթերանոցս բազմապատիկս շինեաց, եւ Աւգոստիոն անուանեաց ի պատիւ Աւգոստոսի:
| 59:8 In the center of the city on an elevated spot, he built numerous storehouses and named them Augusteum in honor of Augustus:

59:9 Եւ այլ ջուրս ընդ յոլով տեղիս ածեալ մտոյց անյայտ գնացիւք:
| 59:9 And he brought in additional water to many places through underground conduits:

59:10 Եւ ելից զինու եւ պահապան գնդիւք զքաղաքն, եւ անուանեաց Թէոդուպաւլիս, զի յիշատակաւ քաղաքին անմահ լիցի անունն:
| 59:10 He filled the city with arms and a garrison and named it Theodosiopolis that the emperor’s name might be rendered immortal by the name of the city:

59:11 Եւ ի վերայ ջերմն բղխեալ աղբերացն` յարկս ի վիմատաշ քարանց շինեաց:
| 59:11 And over the warm springs he constructed buildings of dressed stone:
