62:1 Ի վարդապետսն, յինքն եւ ի ճանապարհորդութիւն ուսմանն, աւրինակաւ երկնային զարդու:
| 62:1 Reflection on the doctors, Moses himself, and his journey for study, with a simile from the celestial system:

62:2 Յարահետեւողք իմաստասիրացն եւ վերահայեցողք չափաբերապէս մակագրութեանց` զաստեղս ի լուսնոյ ասեն ընծուիլ, եւ զլուսին արեգակամբ ուռճացեալ, եւ զբոլոր արեգակն յարփայինն երկնէ. հիկէն արփւոյն հեղեալ զծագումն յերկաքանչիւր գաւտիսն, եւ զանցնիւր գաւտիսն ի ձեռն արեգական ընծուի` ըստ դասի, ըստ բերման, ըստ ժամանակի:
| 62:2 Those who pursue science and are skilled in astronomical studies say that the stars receive their light from the moon, and the moon shines from the sun’s light, and the orb of the sun shines from the ethereal heaven. Thus, the ether pours its rays into both zones, and each zone shines through the sun according to its order, revolution, and time:

62:3 Օրինակ իմն, այսպէս եւ մեք յաւետախաղաց շնորհիւ ցոլացեալ յիմանալի ճառագայթից հոգեւոր հարցն, ըստ հարաւային մասանցն պարայածեալք` յԵդեսացւոցն հասանէաք քաղաք. թեթեւակի ընդ խորս դիւանին նաւեալ` անցաք ի սուրբ տեղիսն երկրպագել, եւ մնալ վայրկեան ի Պաղեստինացւոց հրահանգս:
| 62:3 In such fashion so too did we, reflecting the grace that continually flows from the intelligible rays of the spiritual fathers, circle through the southern regions, and reach the city of Edessa. Sailing gently over the deeps of the archives, we went on to worship at the holy places and to remain for a while studying in Palestine:

62:4 Եւ այնպիսեաւ սաղապաճեմիւ մտաք յԵգիպտոս, յաշխարհն համբաւատենչ, յանչափից հրաժարեալ ի ցրտոյ եւ ի տաւթոյ, ի հեղեղաց եւ յերաշտից, ի գեղեցկումն մասին երկրի զդիրն ունելով, ամենազան պտղովք առլցեալ, եւ անձեռագործ պարսպեալ Նեղոսիւ. որ ոչ պահպանութիւն միայն, այլ եւ կերակուր նմա բաւական մատուցանել բնաւորեաց յինքենէ, եւ առոգմամբ տէր գոլ պատահեաց եւ չորութեան եւ խոնաւոյ` առ երկրին գործաւորութիւն. եւ զանեղսն ի նմա դիւրածել գետոյն բերիւք` հանգիտակ կղզւոյ առատագիւտս առնէ, շուրջ պարունակելով եւ ընդ ամենայն հոսելով, տրոհմամբ երկոտոսանից վտակաց:
| 62:4 With similar deliberate speed we entered Egypt, that famous land free from the extremes of cold and heat, from floods and aridity, set in the most beautiful part of the world, filled with all kinds of fruit and furnished with a natural wall by the Nile. This not only provides protection but enables Egypt to produce sufficient food by itself; and through its irrigation it masters both dryness and moisture for the cultivation of the land. What is not naturally found there is easily produced by the river’s fertility; it makes Egypt rich as an island, surrounding it and flowing throughout it by means of the irrigation of twelve canals:

62:5 Յորում բարեյարմար մեծն Աղեքսանդրիայ է շինեալ քաղաք բարեժամանակ ի մէջ ծովուն, եւ ձեռագործ լիճ կառուցեալ. յորոց աւդոցն քաղցրախառնութիւն փչեցեալ, որ ի լճէն բերանք արձակին ի ծովն, եւ որք ի ծովէքն մաւտի ելոյ որ ելանեն ստէպ ստէպ սղոխք աւդոյ, անաւսրունք այն որ ի ծովէն, եւ թանձունք որ ի լճէն. որոց խառնուածն առողջագոյն զհաստատութիւն կենաց գործէ:
| 62:5 There has been built the great and harmonious city of Alexandria, temperately situated between the sea and an artificial lake. The air is rendered pleasant by their breezes of sea and lake, for from the mouths of the lake that open to the sea and those that come from the sea, there blow continuous winds - light ones from the sea and heavy ones from the lake. Their mingling provides a very healthy climate:

62:6 Սորա առաջի այժմ ոչ անցեալ նստի Պղոտենիոս հինգակատար գագաթամբն, զանսպառ աշխարհ պատելով, այլ Մարկոս աւետարանական քարոզութեամբն. եւ ոչ վիշապազին դիւցազնականաց գերեզմանք, այլ սրբոց վայելչանան վկայարանք:
| 62:6 Its leader is no longer that Pluto who in the past sat enveloping the infinite world with its five peaks, but Mark with the preaching of the gospel. No longer do there exist tombs of heroes descended from the dragons, but the splendid martyria of the saints:

62:7 Եւ ոչ ի քսան եւ հինգն Տուբի` տաւնի աղճատանք, զբեռնաբարձս պսակելով գրաստս, եւ պաշտաւն տանել լորտուաց, եւ աթերաց առնել բաշխումն, այլ ի մետասան նորին Տուբի` յայտնութեանն Տեառն կատարի տաւն. զյաղթող նահատակս գովել, եւ աւտարաց առնել ընդունելութիւն եւ յաղքատս տուրս:
| 62:7 No longer on the twenty- fifth of Tubi is celebrated the superstitious festival of crowning beasts of burden, the worshipping of serpents, and the distribution of cakes; but on the eleventh of the same month of Tubi is celebrated the feast of the Epiphany of the Lord, the praising of the victorious martyrs, the welcoming of strangers, and the giving of presents to the poor:

62:8 Եւ ոչ զոհել չար դիւին Սարապեայ, այլ զՔրիստոսի արիւնն մատուցանել պատարագ. եւ ոչ խնդրել հրաման պատասխանւոյ ի սանդարամետէն Պրոդէիադայ, այլ ուսանել զզաւրութիւնս պէսպէս իմաստից ի նորն Պղատոնէ, յիմն ասեմ վարդապետէ, որում ոչ անարժան գտայ աշակերտ, եւ ոչ անկատար վարժմամբ ի յանգ ելեալ արուեստից` ինքնացայ:
| 62:8 No more do they sacrifice to the evil demon Serapis, but they offer the sacrifice of Christ’s blood. They no longer seek oracles from Proteus, god of the underworld, but they study the power of various sciences from the new Plato, I mean from the teacher of whom I was not found an unworthy pupil; nor was my study incomplete through which I became accomplished in learning:

62:9 Նաւել յԵլլադայ կամելով` յԻտալիա բռնութեամբ անկաք հողմոց. եւ ողջունեալ ի հանգիստ սրբոցն Պետրոսի եւ Պաւղոսի, եւ ոչ բազում ի Հռովմայեցւոցն կացեալ քաղաքի, անցանելով ընդ Ելլադայ յԱտտիկէ, սակաւ ինչ մնացաք յԱթէնս:
| 62:9 Although we wished to sail to Greece, by the force of the winds we reached Italy. After greeting the tombs of saints Peter and Paul, we did not remain long in Rome but passed through Greece to Attica, where we stayed a while in Athens:

62:10 Եւ ի կատարել ձմերայնոյն` դէմ եդեալ ի Բիւզանդիոն ելանել, փափագելով մերոց հայրենեացն:
| 62:10 At the end of the winter we set out for Byzantium, anxious for our homeland:
