| 21:1 Ընդ ժամանակսն ընդ այնոսիկ Աշոտ թագաւորն Հայոց փոխի յաշխարհէս ի բարիոք ծերութեան, փափկացեալ եւ յղփացեալ խրախութեամբ, ձեռն նորա յամենեսին եւ ամենեցուն ձեռք ի նա, քաջավայելչագոյնս զթագաւորութեանն կատարելագործեալ զժամանակն, [Ե] ամ յիշխանական ճոխութեան, [ԻԵ] ամ յիշխանաց իշխանական պետութեանն, [Դ] ամ ի թագակապ շքեղութեանն. եւ մեռաւ [ՅԼԹ] թուականութեանն Հայոց, եւ ի [ԺԵ] ամի հայրապետութեանն Գէորգեայ Հայոց կաթողիկոսի:
| 21:1 In those times Ashot king of Armenia departed this world at a good old age, having enjoyed an abundant and happy [life].
“ His hand was on all, and the hand of all on him.” He splendidly carried through the period of his reign: five years in the dignity of prince, twenty- five years of leadership as prince of princes, four years in royal splendour. He died in the year [339] of the Armenian era, in the fifteenth year of the patriarchate of the Catholicos of Armenia Gēorg:
| 21:2 Եւ փոխանակ նորա թագաւորէ Սմբատ որդի Աշոտի, այր քաջայայտ եւ հանճարեղագոյն, լի եւ առոյգ յամենայն իրողութիւնս՝ որ ինչ ընդ երկնաւս համառօտաբար լրութիւն պատկանաբար պիտանան, հաճոյ Աստուծոյ եւ ընտիր մարդկան:
| 21:2 In his stead ruled Smbat, son of Ashot, an illustrious and very intelligent man, very energetic in all matters; as concerns things under heaven it is suitable and necessary to abbreviate the totality: “ pleasing to God and elite among men:
