27:0 Վասն սքանչելեացն որ ցուցաւ յոստանն Ռշտունեաց յամս զօրավարութեանն Գագկայ:
| 27:0 Concerning the miracle which was revealed in Ostan of Ṙshtunik’ in the years of Gagik’s generalship:

27:1 Յանձն առի պատմել ստուգապէս զսքանչելագործ յայտնութեանն հրաշիցն, որ ցուցաւ ի զօրավարութեանն Գագկայ. եւ ապաշաւանք ոչ սակաւք դիմեցին հոլովեալ ի վերայ իմ. զոր արդ այժմ համառօտաբար հատուցից զհարկ պարտեաց շարագրութեանս:
| 27:1 I have undertaken to give a true account of the marvellous manifestation of wonders that appeared during the time Gagik was general. But not a few regrets have fallen on me, which I shall now briefly expound, dutifully continuing my narrative:

27:2 Նշանն քրիստոսեան քառածրագիծ փայտիւ արուեստագործեալ ճարտարապետի ումեմն հիւսնեալ, եւ արծաթագործ եօթնփորձեան հրաբորբոք ճարտարապետն ի բովս հալոցացն զուտ եւ վճիտ արծաթ ընտրելով, արծաթեղինաւն զփայտեղէնն պատեալ արտաքուստ, որգունակ քաւութիւնն եւ այլ կահ սպասու խորանին ի Մովսիսէ օրինադրեալ ի ձեռն ճարտարապետացն Եղիաբ եւ Բեսելիէլ խորանայարդարք:
| 27:2 The four- armed cross of Christ had been fashioned in wood by a certain skilled craftsman, and a silversmith had enclosed the wood with pure and unalloyed silver seven times refined in the furnace— like the altar of propitiation and other vessels prescribed by Moses for the tabernacle [and fashioned] by the craftsmen Eliab and Beseliel:

27:3 Նոր ոմն Նաբուզարդան կամ Զամրի յայտնեալ ի յաղանդոյն Նեստորի, երեքթշուառեան վատաշուէր, վատմիրհ, զագահութեանն չարիս ախտացեալ՝ սպրդեալ եմուտ ընդ մութ գիշերին յամրական պարսպեալ բլուր, եւ անցեալ ի սուրբ կոչարանին օթագացեալ:
| 27:3 A new Nabuzardan or Zamri from the heresy of Nestorius appeared, a thrice- miserable and wicked wretch, afflicted with the scourge of avarice. Penetrating in the darkness of night, he made his way into the secure walled hill and entered the holy shrine:

27:4 մինչ քաղցրատենչ քունն ի վերայ հասանէր որ զպահպանութիւն գիշերոյն պահէին՝ նորա ամբարձեալ զպղծալից ձեռն ի սրբութիւն սրբոցն եւ առեալ զսուրբ նշան խաչին Քրիստոսի եւ ընդ պատուհանն արտաքս ելեալ, որջացեալ ի մուտս կոյս յափն ծովուն ի փապար յարձանախիտ քարին եւ մանրեալ զարծաթեղէնն ընդ փայտեղինին. եւ իսկոյն հարեալ զնա այսոյն պղծոյ եւ ընդ զառիվայր լերինն թաւալագլոր խաղաղացուցեալ հարուստ ձգմամբ մինչ ի դաշտավայր տեղին ուր այգեստանքն:
| 27:4 While sweetly desired sleep overwhelmed those keeping the night watch, he raised his impure hand to the holy of holies and seized the holy cross of Christ. He got out through the window and hid himself to the west on the shore of the lake in a cave in the rock. But when he stripped the silver from the wood, straightway the evil demon afflicted him, causing him to roll down the mountain in a long fall as far as the level ground where the vineyards are:

27:5 Իբրեւ ստուգեցաւ որ ինչ եղեալն էր՝ փութացան խնդրել ի քաղաքին եւ ի կիրճս ճանապարհին, յոր կողմ եւ աճապարեաց ոք, մինչ անցեալ գտին զհարեալն դիւի չարի, զի կայր դեռ կիսամեռ:
| 27:5 When what had happened became known, [people] rushed to search in the city and on the roadways in whichever direction anyone might have hurried, until they came upon the man afflicted by an evil spirit, still lying half dead:

27:6 Եւ առեալ զմանրեալ եւ զխորտակեալ ի մասունս զԽաչն՝ բերին առ զօրավարն, լուացեալ զարիւն պղծոյն, որ ի վերայ խաչին շաղախեալ կայր ի գլորմանէ այսահարին:
| 27:6 Picking up the cross that had been broken and crushed into pieces, they brought it to the general and washed off the impure blood that had adhered to the cross from the tumble of the demon- possessed man:

27:7 Եւ հրամայեաց ածել ոսկերիչ եւ նորոգեալ նորացոյց զանյաղթ փայտ խաչին Քրիստոսի, մատուցեալ զբեկորսն առ իւրաքանչիւր յօդս, պատեալ մաքուր արծաթով վայելչագոյն քան զառաջինն, ի պարծանս քրիստոնէից եւ յամօթ եւ ի նախատինս թշնամեաց խաչին Քրիստոսի:
| 27:7 He ordered a goldsmith to be brought, and had the invincible wood of the cross of Christ restored again. He rejoined the fragments in each one’s position, and covered it with pure silver more splendidly than before, to the glory of the Christians and to the shame and ignominy of the enemies of Christ’s cross:

27:8 Իսկ թշուառականն զսատակմանն ընկալաւ զվճիռ, եւ ի հանդերձելումն զխաչահանուացն հատուցանել զպարտիս:
| 27:8 Then the wretch suffered the sentence of death, to pay in the world to come the penalty of the crucifiers:

27:9 Բայց մի՛ ինձ բասրանս դիցես՝ զօրինականին առ աւետարանականս դնել համեմատութիւն, զոր եւ ոչ ես անգիտանամ զմեծն եւ զփոքրն, զօրինակն եւ զճշմարտութիւնն:
| 27:9 But do not blame me for comparing the things of the law to those of the gospel; I am not ignorant of the greater and the less, of the example and the truth:

27:10 Որպէս Պօղոս ուսուցանէ. «արհամարհեալ, ասէ, ուրուք զօրէնս Մովսէսի՝ մեռանէր, ի բերանոյ [Բ] կամ [Գ] վկայիւք. քանի սաստկագոյն պատժոց համարիմք զայն, որ զորդին Աստուծոյ առ ոտն եհար», եւ որ ի կարգին է:
| 27:10 As Paul teaches: “ Whoever despised the laws of Moses, died from the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much greater a punishment will we think that man worthy who trampled the Son of God,” and so on:
