32:1 Թէ ո՛յք ոմանք սորա զարմք, եւ ո՛յք ի սմանէ որոշեալ ցեղք:
| 32:1 Who were his descendants, and what were the families derived from him:

32:2 Հաւաստի պատմել զբուն եւ զառաջին Տիգրանն եւ որ ինչ ի նմանէ գործք` սիրելի, որպէս ինձ պատմողիս ի մէջ իմոց բանից որ ինչ յաղագս Երուանդեանս Տիգրանայ բանք` եղիցի եւ քեզ ընթերցողիդ, որպէս այրն եւ գործք, այսպէս եւ զնմանէ բանք:
| 32:2 To give a faithful account of the original and first Tigran and his various deeds is a task dear to me as a historian in my narrative concerning Tigran, the son of Eruand, and may it so be for you too, O reader; as was the man and his deeds, so too will be the account of him:

32:3 Վասն որոյ սիրեմ կոչել այսպէս ըստ քաջութեան - Հայկ, Արամ, Տիգրան. քանզի ըստ քաջացն՝ ազգք քաջք. իսկ միջոցքն՝ որպէս դէպ ումեք թուիցի կոչել:
| 32:3 Therefore I like to name for their valor, in this order, Hayk, Aram, Tigran. For the descendants of heroes are heroes; but as for those of second rank, let one call them what seems to him appropriate:

32:4 Բայց ըստ դիւցազնութեանն կարծեաց` ճշմարիտ է եւ ասելս մեր:
| 32:4 But according to the reputation of heroic nature, what we are saying is true:

32:5 Ոչ Արամազդ ոք, այլ ի կամեցողսն լսին լինել Արամազդ չորից եւս այլոց անուանելոց ոմանց Արամազդ. յորոց մի է եւ Կունդ ոմն Արամազդ:
| 32:5 There is no Aramazd save among those wishing to hear that Aramazd exists; among the four or more called Aramazd is a certain bald Aramazd:

32:6 Այսպէս եւ բազումք անուանեալք Տիգրան, մի է եւ միայնակ սա ի Հայկազանցս, որ զԱժդահակ սպան, եւ զտուն նորա ի գերութիւն վարեաց եւ զԱնոյշ մայրն վիշապաց. աւժանդակ` կամաւք եւ յաւժարութեամբ Կիւրոս ունելով` զիշխանութիւնն Մարաց եւ Պարսից յինքն յափշտակեաց:
| 32:6 So too there are many called Tigran, but only one descended from Hayk, who killed Azhdahak and led into captivity his house and Anoysh the mother of dragons, and who with the willing help and encouragement of Cyrus seized for himself the empire of the Medes and Persians:

32:7 Սորա որդի Բաբ, Տիրան, Վահագն, զորմէ ասեն առասպելք աշխարհիս. «Երկնէր երկին, երկնէր երկիր, երկնէր եւ ծովն ծիրանի. երկն ի ծովուն ունէր եւ զկարմրիկն եղեգնիկ. ընդ եղեգան փոխ ծուխ ելանէր, ընդ եղեգան փող բոց ելանէր. եւ ի բոցոյն վազէր խարտեաշ պատանեկիկ. նա հուր հեր ունէր, ապա թէ բոց ունէր մաւրուս, եւ աչկունքն էին արեգակունք:
| 32:7 His sons were Pap, Tiran, Vahagn, of whom the fables of our land say: Heaven was in travail, earth was in travail, the purple sea was also in travail; in the sea travail also gripped the red reed. From the tube of the reed came forth smoke, from the tube of the reed came forth flame. From the flame a red- headed young boy ran out. He had fire for hair, and had flame for beard, and his eyes were suns:

32:8 Զայս երգելով ոմանց փանդռամբ, լուաք մերովք իսկ ականջաւք:
| 32:8 With our own ears we have heard some singing this on the lyre:

32:9 Յետ որոյ եւ ընդ վիշապաց ասէին յերգին կռուել նմա եւ յաղթել, եւ կարի իմն նմանագոյնս զՀերակլեայ նահատակութիւնսն նմա երգէին:
| 32:9 Then they would say in their song that he fought with dragons and overcame them; and they sang of him something very similar to the heroic exploits of Heracles:

32:10 Այլ ասեն զսա եւ աստուածացեալ. եւ անդրի ի Վրաց աշխարհին զսորա չափ հասակին կանգնեալ` պատուէին զոհիւք:
| 32:10 But they said that he was divinized, and setting up his statue in Georgia they honored it with sacrifices:

32:11 Եւ սորա են զարմք Վահունիք. ի սորա կրտսեր որդւոյն Առաւանայ Առաւենեանք:
| 32:11 His descendants are the Vahunik’; and from his youngest son Aṙavan are descended the Aṙaveneank’:

32:12 Սորա Առաւան, սորա Ներսեհ, սորա Զարեհ. ի սորա զարմից եւ որ Զարեհաւանիցն կարդան ազգք:
| 32:12 He begat Aṙavan, he Nerseh, and he Zareh; from the last’s descendants come the families known as Zarehavanik’:

32:13 Իսկ սորա առաջին Արմոգ, սորա Բագամ, սորա Վահան, սորա Վահէ:
| 32:13 Now the first of Zareh’s sons was Armog; he begat Bagam, he Vahan, he Vahē:

32:14 Սա ընդվզեալ` մեռանի յԱղեքսանդրէ Մակեդոնացւոյ:
| 32:14 The last rebelled and was killed by Alexander of Macedon:

32:15 Յայսմ հետէ մինչեւ ցթագաւորութիւնն Վաղարշակայ ի Հայս` ոչ ինչ ճշմարտագոյն ունիմ պատմել քեզ. քանզի շփոթ իմն ամբոխից լեալ` այր զարամբ ելանէին տիրել աշխարհիս. եւ վասն այսորիկ դիւրամուտ ի Հայս լեալ Արշակ Մեծ` թագաւորեցուցանէ զեղբայր իւր զՎաղարշակ ի վերայ աշխարհիս Հայոց:
| 32:15 From this point until the reign of Vaḷarshak in Armenia I have nothing very accurate to tell you, for there was confusion caused by factions, and men rivaled each other for the control of our country. Therefore, Arshak the Great easily entered Armenia and made his brother Vaḷarshak king over Armenia:
