30:1 Առաքումն իշխանացն Աբգարու առ Մառինոս, յորում տեսին զՓրկիչն մեր Քրիստոս, ուստի եղեւ սկիզբն հաւատոցն Աբգարու:
| 30:1 Abgar sends the nobles to Marinus, when they saw our Savior Christ, which proved the beginning of Abgar’s conversion:

30:2 Ընդ այն ժամանակս եկաց ի գործ հազարապետութեան կայսեր ի վերայ Փիւնիկեցւոց եւ Պաղեստինացւոց, Ասորւոց եւ Միջագետաց Մառինոս որդի Ստորգեայ. առ որ առաքեաց Աբգար երկուս ի գլխաւորաց իւրոց, զՄար Իհաբ բդեաշխն Աղձնեաց եւ զՇամշագրամ նահապետ Ապահունեաց տոհմին եւ զԱնան հաւատարիմ իւր` ի քաղաքն Բեթքուբին, զգացուցանել նմա զպատճառս երթալոյն իւրոյ յարեւելս, ցուցանելով եւ զգիր ուխտին` որ ընդ Արտաշէս եւ ընդ եղբարս իւր, եւ առնել զնա թիկունս աւգնականութեան:
| 30:2 At that time the emperor appointed to the chiliarchate over Phoenicia and Palestine, Syria, and Mesopotamia Marinus, son of Storgius. To him he sent two of his notables, Mar Ihab, bdeashkh of Aḷdznik’, and Shamshagram, prince of the Apahuni family, and also Anan his confidant, to the city of Bet’- Kubin to inform him of the reason for Abgar’s going to the east, to show the text of the covenant between Artashēs and his brothers, and to enroll his help:

30:3 Որոց եկեալ գտին զնա յԵլեւթերոյպաւլիս:
| 30:3 When they arrived, they found him in Eleutheropolis:

30:4 Եւ նորա ընկալեալ զնոսա խնդութեամբ եւ մեծարանաւք` առնէ պատասխանի Աբգարու. «Մի՛ կասկածեր ի կայսերէ սակս այնր, միայն զի զհարկելն լիով փութասցիս:
| 30:4 He received them with joy and honor, and replied to Abgar: “ Have no fear of the emperor on this account, provided that you take care to pay the tribute in full:

30:5 Եւ նոցա դարձեալ անտի` ելին յԵրուսաղէմ տեսանել զՓրկիչն մեր Քրիստոս վասն լրոյ համբաւուց սքանչելագործութեանցն. որում եւ ականատես եղեալ` պատմեցին Աբգարու:
| 30:5 On their return they went to Jerusalem to see our Savior Christ on account of the report of his miracles. They saw Him in person and informed Abgar:

30:6 Ընդ որ զարմացեալ Աբգարու` հաւատաց ճշմարտապէս իբր արդարեւ յորդի Աստուծոյ, եւ ասէ. «Այն զաւրութիւնք ոչ մարդոյ են, այլ Աստուծոյ. զի չիք ոք ի մարդկանէ, որ կարէ զմեռեալս յարուցանել, բայց միայն Աստուած:
| 30:6 Abgar was astonished and truly believed in Him as the Son of God, saying: “ These wonders are not a man’s but God’s. For there is no man who can raise the dead but only God:

30:7 Եւ քանզի ապականեալ էր մարմինն իւր ի չարաչար ցաւոց, որ պատահեցին նմա ի Պարսից աշխարհին յառաջ քան զեաւթն ամ, եւ ի մարդկանէ ոչ եղեւ նմա հնար բժշկութեան` ետ տանել նմա թուղթ աղաչանաց, գալ եւ բժշկել զնա ի ցաւոցն, աւրինակ զայս:
| 30:7 And because his body was wracked by fearful pains that he had contracted in Persia seven years before and no man had been able to cure him, he had a letter of supplication taken to Him, asking Him to come and cure him of his pains. It ran as follows:
