| 31:1 Abgar’s letter to the Savior:

31:2 Աբգար Արշամայ, իշխան աշխարհի, առ Յիսուս փրկիչ եւ բարերար, որ երեւեցար յԵրուսաղէմացւոց աշխարհիդ, ողջոյն:
| 31:2 Abgar, son of Arsham, prince of the land, to Jesus, Savior and benefactor, who was revealed in the land of Jerusalem, greeting:

31:3 Լուեալ է իմ վասն քո եւ վասն բժշկութեանդ, որ լինի ի ձեռս քո առանց դեղոց եւ արմատոց. զի որպէս ասի` տաս դու կուրաց տեսանել եւ կաղաց գնալ, եւ զբորոտս սրբես եւ զայսս պիղծս հանես, եւ որ միանգամ չարչարեալ են յերկար հիւանդութեամբք` բժշկես. դու եւ զմեռեալս յարուցանես:
| 31:3 I have heard about you and about the healing that was accomplished through you without medicines or drugs. For, as is said, you cause the blind to see and the lame to walk, you purify the lepers, you cast out evil spirits, and you cure whoever has been afflicted by long illnesses; you even raise the dead:

31:4 Եւ իբրեւ լուայ վասն քո զայս ամենայն` եդի ի մտի իմում մի յերկուց աստի. կա՛մ թէ դու Աստուած իցես, իջեալ յերկնից, եւ գործես զայդ. կամ թէ որդի իցես դու Աստուծոյ, եւ զայդ առնես:
| 31:4 And when I heard all this about you, I decided one of two things: either you are God who have descended from heaven and work these things, or you are the son of God and do them:

31:5 Արդ վասն այնորիկ գրեցի ես առ քեզ` աղաչել զքեզ, զի աշխատ լինիցիս եւ եկեսցես առ իս եւ բժշկեսցես զհիւանդութիւնս զոր ունիմ ես:
| 31:5 So therefore I have written to you to ask you to take the trouble and come to me and heal this affliction of mine:

31:6 Նա եւ լուայ, զի Հրեայք տրտնջեն զքէն եւ կամին չարչարել զքեզ. բայց քաղաք մի փոքրիկ եւ գեղեցիկ է իմ, եւ բաւական է մեզ երկոցունցս:
| 31:6 I have also heard that the Jews murmur against you and wish to harm you. But I have a small and pleasant city, and it is sufficient for us both:

31:7 Որոց տարեալ զթուղթն` պատահեցին նմա յԵրուսաղէմ:
| 31:7 They took the letter and met Him Jesus in Jerusalem:

31:8 Զայս վկայէ եւ աւետարանական բանն, եթէ Էին ոմանք ի հեթանոսաց եկելոց առ նա. վասն ոչ համարձակին, որք լուանն, ասել ցՅիսուս, այլ ասեն ցՓիլիպպոս եւ ցԱնդրէաս. եւ նոքա ասեն ցՅիսուս:
| 31:8 To this bears witness the saying of the gospel: “ There were some of the Gentiles who had come to him; therefore, those who heard did not dare tell Jesus but they told Philip and Andrew, and they told Jesus:

31:9 Իսկ ինքն Փրկչին մեր յայնմ ժամանակի յորում կոչեացն զնա Աբգար` ոչ առ յանձն. բայց թղթոյ արժանի արար զնա, որ ունի աւրինակ զայս:
| 31:9 But our Savior himself did not accept Abgar’s invitation at that time but honored him with a letter, which ran as follows:
