39:1 Յաղագս շինուածոյ Երուանդաշատ քաղաքի:
| 39:1 Concerning the construction of the city of Eruandashat:

39:2 Յաւուրս սորա փոխին արքունիքն յԱրմաւիրն անուանեալ բլրոյ. քանզի էր հեռացեալ գետն Երասխ, եւ ի յերկարել ձմերայնոյն, եւ ի դառնահոտ փչմանէ հիւսիսոյ պաղացեալ ձուլեալ վտակն` ոչ ուստեք արբուցումն բաւական թագաւորականին գտանէր տեղւոյ:
| 39:2 In his days the court was transferred from the hill called Armavir, for the River Araxes had shifted to a distance, and in the long winter and when the stream froze over from the bitter north winds there was no longer sufficient water for the capital:

39:3 Ընդ որ նեղեալ Երուանդայ, նա եւ ամրագունի եւս տեղւոյ ելեալ ի խնդիր` փոխէ զարքունիսն յարեւմուտս կոյս, ի քարակտուր մի բլուր, զորով պատ առեալ Երասխայ` ընդդէմ Ախուրեանն հոսի գետ:
| 39:3 Inconvenienced by this and also seeking a stronger site, Eruand moved the court westward to a rocky hill around which flowed on one side the Araxes and on the other the Akhurean:

39:4 Պարսպէ զբլուրն, եւ ի ներքսագոյն քան զպարիսպն ընդ բազում տեղիս կտրեալ զքարինսն մինչեւ ի յատակս բլրոյն հաւասար գետոյն, մինչեւ դիմել ջուրց գետոյն ի փորուածն, յըմպելեաց պատրաստութիւն:
| 39:4 He fortified the hill, and inside the wall at many places he cut down the rock to the foot of the hill level with the river, until the water of the river flowed into the conduit and was available for drinking:

39:5 Զմիջնաբերդն ամրացուցանէր բարձր պարսպաւք, եւ դրունս պղնձիս կանգնէր ի միջոցի պարսպին, եւ ելանելիս երկաթիս ի ներքուստ ի վեր մինչեւ ցդուռնն. եւ ի նմա որոգայթս իմն ծածուկս ընդ մէջ աստիճանացն, որպէս զի ըմբռնեսցի` եթէ ոք գաղտ ելանելով դաւել կամիցի զարքայն:
| 39:5 The central fortress he strengthened with high walls and set in the middle of the wall bronze gates, with iron stairways from below up to the gate. In these, between the steps, he set hidden traps to catch anyone who might wish to enter secretly and assassinate the king:

39:6 Եւ էր, ասեն, երկդիմի. որպէս զի մինն լիցի սպասաւորաց արքունի եւ ամենայն ելեւմտից ճանապարհ տուընջենային, իսկ միւսն գիշերային եւ մարդադաւաց:
| 39:6 It was, they say, a double stair, so that the one side served the royal servants and all those arriving and departing during the day, while the other was for the assassins who operate at night:
