4:1 Եթէ ո՛րպէս միաբանեալ Վաղարշակայ զքաջս Հայոց ի կարգս զաւրու` խաղայ ի վերայ Մակեդոնացւոցն մտերմաց:
| 4:1 How Vaḷarshak united the Armenian warriors into an army and marched against the allies of the Macedonians:

4:2 Յետ պատերազմին Արշակայ ընդ Մակեդոնացիս եւ ունելոյ զԲաբելոն եւ զարեւելս եւ զարեւմուտս Ասորեստանի` միաբանէ եւ Վաղարշակ զաւր բազում յԱտրպատականէ եւ ի Հայոց, որ ի միջոցի աշխարհիս, արս անուանիս եւ քաջս, եւ զկոչեցեալն Բագարատ, եւ որք ընդ նովաւ քաջք, եւ ծովեզերեայսն մանկունս, որք ի Գեղամայ եւ ի Քանանացւոց, եւ Շարայի ծնունդք եւ Գուշարայ, եւ առ թեր Սիսակեանսն, եւ զԿադմեանսն եւ զնոցա մերձաւորսն, որպէս թէ զկէս մասն աշխարհիս:
| 4:2 After Arshak’s war with the Macedonians and his capture of Babylon and eastern and western Assyria, Vaḷarshak gathered together a great army from Azerbaijan and central Armenia - men famous and valiant, including the so- called Bagarat and the warriors under him, the young men of the lake shore descended from Geḷam and the Canaanites, the offspring of Sharay and Gushar, and the neighboring descendants of Sisak and Cadmos and their relations - about half of our country:

4:3 Հասանէ ի միջոց աշխարհիս, վերագոյն քան զակունս մաւրին մեծի, յափն Երասխայ, մաւտ յԱրմաւիր որ ասի բլուր. աւուրս շատս առնելով անդ, որպէս պարտ է ասել. զի ոչ գիտէին զկարգս ինչ:
| 4:3 He came to the center of the country above the sources of the Great Marsh on the bank of the Araxes near the hill called Armavir. There he stayed many days, as we must admit, for they were quite unaware of military tactics:

4:4 Եւ աստի միաբանեալ զբոլոր կողմանս աշխարհիս` հասանէ առ սահմանաւքն Խաղտեաց:
| 4:4 From there, bringing together the forces of all regions of our country, he reached the borders of Khaḷtik’:

4:5 Քանզի Ղազիկայ, Պոնտոս, Փռիւգիայ, Մաժաք եւ այլք, ոչ գիտելով զհամբաւ պատերազմին Արշակայ` առ Մակեդոնացւոց պետութիւնն զմիաբանութիւն դաշանցն հաստատուն պահէին:
| 4:5 Lazica, Pontus, Phrygia, Mazhak’, and other countries, ignorant of the news of Arshak’s war, were faithfully keeping their alliance with the Macedonian empire:

4:6 Վասն որոյ ոմն Մորփիւղիկեայ միաբանեալ զասացեալ կողմանս զայսոսիկ, եւ գրգռի ի պատերազմ ընդ Վաղարշակայ:
| 4:6 Therefore a certain Morp’iwḷik united these provinces just mentioned and declared war on Vaḷarshak:

4:7 Բայց պատահեն միմեանց առ բարձրաւանդակի միոջ բլրով քարագագաթնիւ, որ այժմ ասի Կողոնիայ. եւ մաւտեալք առ միմեանս ձիգ ասպարիսաւք միջոցացն` ամրանան կողմանքն երկոքին բովանդակ աւուրս:
| 4:7 They met each other by a high hill with a rocky summit, which is today called Coloneia. Approaching to within a few stadia of each other, both sides fortified their positions for many days:
