45:1 Եթէ ո՛րպէս ընդ մուտն Արտաշիսի յիւր աշխարհն յաջողեցաւ գործն:
| 45:1 How at the entry of Artashēs into his own land the enterprise succeeded:

45:2 Իսկ Սմբատ հանդերձ մանկամբն Արտաշիսիւ աճապարէր հասանել ի սահմանս Ուտէացւոց:
| 45:2 Now Smbat with the young Artashēs hastened to reach the borders of Uti:

45:3 Ընդ առաջ նորա ելին զաւրք այնր կողմանն, նա եւ նախարարքն զորս եթող Երուանդ:
| 45:3 There came out to meet him the army of that region and also the princes whom Eruand had left behind:

45:4 Զայն իբրեւ լուան այլ նախարարքն Հայոց` լուծանէին լքանէին եւ զատչել յԵրուանդայ խորհէին. նա եւ զայն եւս տեսանէին, եթէ զաւրքն Հռոմայեցւոց ոչ հասին նմա ի թիկունս:
| 45:4 When the other Armenian princes heard of this, they lost their courage and planned to abandon Eruand; they also saw that the Roman army had not come to his support:

45:5 Իսկ Երուանդ առաւել եւս յորդագոյն տայր զպարգեւսն, եւ բաշխէր միոյ միոյ ումեք ի նոցանէ զգանձսն. եւ որչափ շատ տայր` շատ եւս ատելի լինէր:
| 45:5 But Eruand gave even more generous gifts and bestowed treasures on each one of them. However, the more liberal he was, the more hateful he became:

45:6 Քանզի գիտէին ամենեքեան, եթէ ոչ առ առատութեան տայ, այլ առ երկիւղի վատնէ:
| 45:6 Everyone knew that he was not giving out of generosity but spending out of fear:

45:7 Եւ ոչ այնչափ սիրելի զայնոսիկ առնէր, որոց շատն տայր, քան թէ թշնամի զայնս` որոց ոչն տայր պերճագոյնս:
| 45:7 And he did not so much make friends of those to whom he gave much as make enemies of those to whom he gave less generously:
