48:1 Սպանումն Երուազայ, եւ շինել միւսոյ Բագարանի, եւ հարկիլ Արտաշիսի Հռոմայեցւոց:
| 48:1 The murder of Eruaz, the building of the second Bagaran, the payment of tribute to the Romans by Artashēs:

48:2 Զկնի այսորիկ հրաման տայ Սմբատայ` երթալ յամուրն Բագարան, որ հուպ ի քաղաքն Երուանդայ ի վերայ Ախուրեան գետոյ, զի սպանցէ զԵրուազ զեղբայր Երուանդայ:
| 48:2 After this he commanded Smbat to go to the fortress of Bagaran, which was near Eruand’s capital on the Akhurean River, to kill Eruaz, Eruand’s brother:

48:3 Զոր կալեալ Սմբատայ` երկան զուլանէ հրամայէ կապել, եւ ընկենուլ ի պտոյտ մի գետոյն:
| 48:3 Smbat seized him and ordered a millstone to be hung around his neck and that he be thrown into a whirlpool of the river:

48:4 Եւ ի տեղի նորա ի վերայ բագնացն կացուցանէ զընտանի Արտաշիսի, աշակերտ մոգի ուրումն երազահանի, որ յայն սակս եւ Մոգպաշտէ անուն կարդային:
| 48:4 In his place he put in charge of the altars the friend of Artashēs, the disciple of a certain magus who interpreted dreams; for that reason, he was called Mogpashtē:

48:5 Եւ ապա աւար առեալ զգանձսն Երուազայ, եւ ծառայս անձինս հինգ հարիւր, նա եւ զընտիր գանձուցն մեհենից` բերէ Արտաշիսի:
| 48:5 Then he plundered the treasures of Eruaz and brought five hundred slaves and also the most choice of the temple treasures to Artashēs:

48:6 Եւ Արտաշէս պարգեւէ Սմբատայ զծառայսն Երուազայ. բայց զգանձսն հրամայէ տանել Դարեհի արքայի Պարսից, հանդերձ յաւելմամբ յիւրոց գանձուց, ի շնորհակալութեան պատիւ իբրեւ հաւր եւ աւգնականի:
| 48:6 Artashēs bestowed on Smbat the slaves of Eruaz, but he ordered the treasures to be taken to Darius, king of Persia, adding to them from his own treasures, as a gift of thanks to a father and supporter:

48:7 Յայնժամ Սմբատայ զծառայսն Երուազայ, զոր գերեացն ի Բագարանէ, տարեալ բնակեցուցանէ ի թիկանց Մասեաց, ի նոյն անուն Բագարան կոչելով զձեռակերտն:
| 48:7 Then Smbat took the slaves of Eruaz whom he had taken captive in Bagaran and settled them behind Masis, calling the town by the same name Bagaran:

48:8 Ինքն անցանէ ի Պարսս, ընծայատար Դարեհի, ոչ ինչ փոյթ առնելով զՀռոմայեցւոց տէրութենէն:
| 48:8 He himself crossed into Persia bearing the gifts for Darius, paying no heed to the Roman empire:

48:9 Իսկ ի գնալն Սմբատայ ի Պարսս հասանեն հարկահանք կայսեր եւ սպայ ծանր ի սահմանս Հայոց, զորս մաղթեալ Արտաշիսի եւ կրկին տուեալ զհարկսն` հաշտեցուցանէ:
| 48:9 But when Smbat had gone to Persia, the emperor’s tax collectors and a powerful army arrived at the Armenian frontier. Artashēs satisfied them with supplications and by paying double tribute:

48:10 Եւ զայս մեզ ստուգապէս պատմէ Ողիւմպ քուրմ Հանւոյ, գրող մեհենական պատմութեանց, եւ զայլ բազում գործս` զոր ասել կայ մեզ առաջի, որում եւ Պարսից մատեանքն վկայեն եւ Հայոց երգք վիպասանաց:
| 48:10 This is accurately told us by Olympius, priest of Ani and composer of temple histories, as are also many other deeds that we have to relate and to which the books of the Persians and the epic songs of the Armenians bear witness:
