60:3 Քանզի ի ժամանակին որպէս ապստամբեցին Հրեայք յԱդրիանոսէ Հռոմայեցւոց թագաւորէ, եւ ետուն պատերազմ ընդ Րուփոսի եպարքոսի, առաջնորդութեամբ առն ուրումն աւազակի, որում անուն էր Բարքոբայ, այս ինքն աստեղ որդի, որ էր գործովք չարագործ եւ սպանող, բայց անուամբ իւրով մեծաբանեալ պարծէր, որպէս թէ յերկնից ծագեաց նոցա փրկիչ, իբր նեղելոց եւ գերեաց:
| 60:3 At the time the Jews had revolted against Hadrian, the Roman emperor, and had made war with the eparch Rufus under the leadership of a certain brigand called Bar K’oba, that is “ son of a star,” who was an evildoer and a murderer - but because of his name he greatly boasted that he had sprung from heaven as their savior from affliction and captivity:

60:4 Եւ այնքան սաստկացոյց զմարտն, մինչեւ ի նա հայելով ի բաց կացին ի հարկելոյ Հռոմայեցւոց Ասորիք եւ Միջագետք եւ Պարսք ամենայն. քանզի էր եւ լուեալ, եթէ եմուտ յԱդրիանոս ախտ ուրկութեան:
| 60:4 And so severely did he wage war that looking to him all the Syrians, Mesopotamians, and Persians refused to pay tribute to the Romans. It had also been heard that leprosy had afflicted Hadrian:

60:5 Բայց մերն Արտաշէս ոչ երկմտեաց ի նմանէ:
| 60:5 But our Artashēs was not disloyal to him:

60:6 Եւ եղեւ ընդ նոյն ժամանակս հասանել Ադրիանոսի ի Պաղեստինէ եւ սատակել զապստամբսն պաշարմամբ ի քաղաքի մի փոքր, հուպ յԵրուսաղէմ. վասն որոյ եւ ամենայն ազգին Հրէից հրամայեաց մերժել ի հայրենի աշխարհէն, որ եւ ոչ ի բազում հեռաստանէ հայեսցին յԵրուսաղէմ:
| 60:6 It happened in those times that Hadrian came to Palestine and destroyed the rebels in the siege of a small town near Jerusalem. Therefore, he ordered all the nation of the Jews to leave their homeland so that they would not see Jerusalem even from a great distance:

60:7 Եւ ինքն շինէր զԵրուսաղէմ, զաւերեալն ի Վեսպասիանոսէ եւ ի Տիտոսէ եւ յիւրմէ. եւ անուանեաց Հեղիայ յիւր անուն, որպէս եւ կոչէրն իսկ Ադրիանոս` արեգակն:
| 60:7 And he built up Jerusalem, which had been destroyed by Vespasian and Titus and himself, and called it Elia after his own name, just as Hadrian was called “ sun:

60:8 Բնակեցոյց ի նմա հեթանոսս եւ քրիստոնեայս, որոց եպիսկոպոս էր Մարկոս ոմն:
| 60:8 He settled in it pagans and Christians, whose bishop was a certain Mark:

60:9 Ընդ այն ժամանակս առաքեաց զաւր ծանր զկողմամբք Ասորեստանի. եւ մերոյն Արտաշիսի հրամայեաց երթալ ի Պարսս հանդերձ իւրովք զիւգոստատաւք. զորոյ զհետ քարտուղարութեամբ լեալ այս այր, որ զայս պատմութիւն ետ մեզ, հանդիպի Արտաշիսի ի Մարս, ի Սոհունդ անուանեալ տեղւոջ:
| 60:9 At that time he sent a powerful army to the regions of Assyria and ordered our Artashēs to go to Persia with his own supervisors. In his entourage as secretary was the man who gave this story to us; he met Artashēs in Media in a place called Sohund:

60:10 Եղեւ հիւանդանալ նմա ի Մարանդի, ի Բակուրակերտ աւանի. եւ զԱբեղոյ զոմն նահապետ Աբեղենից տոհմին, զայր շոյտ եւ շղոմարար եւ սուտակասպաս, ի նորին խնդրոյ արձակէ յԵկեղեաց յԵրիզայ, ի մեհեանն Արտեմիդեայ, խնդրել ի կռոցն բժշկութիւն եւ զբազում կեանս:
| 60:10 He became ill in Marand, in the town of Bakurakert. And a certain Abeḷoy, leader of the Abeḷini family, an active and sycophantic and hypocritical man, he sent at his request to Erēz in Ekeḷeats’ to the temple of Artemis to seek healing and a long life from the idols:

60:11 Որոյ ոչ ժամանեալ դառնալ` հասանէ վախճան Արտաշիսի:
| 60:11 He had not returned when Artashēs died:

60:12 Եւ գրէ, եթէ ո՛րչափ ամբոխութիւնք մեռան ի մահուանն Արտաշիսի, սիրելի կանայք եւ հարճք եւ մտերիմ ծառայք. եւ ո՛րպիսի շուք բազմադիմիս արարին առ ի պատիւ դիոյն, քաղաքականաց կարգաւք եւ ոչ որպէս զբարբարոսս:
| 60:12 And he writes how many multitudes died at the death of Artashēs, his beloved wives and concubines and faithful servants; and what a multifarious display they made in honor of the corpse in a civilized fashion and not as barbarians:

60:13 Դագաղքն էին, ասէ, ոսկեղէնք, գահոյքն եւ անկողինքն բեհեզեայ. եւ պատմուճանն որ զմարմնովն` ոսկեթել. թագ կապեալ ի գլուխն, եւ զէնն ոսկւով առաջի եդեալ. եւ զգահոյիւքն շուրջ` որդիքն եւ բազմութիւն ազգականացն, եւ առ այսոքիւք պաշտաւնէիցն զինուորութիւնք, եւ նահապետքն եւ նախարարութեանցն գունդք եւ միանգամայն զաւրականացն վաշտք, ամենեքին կազմեալ զինու հանդերձ, իբր թէ ի պատերազմ ճակատիցին. եւ առաջի պղնձիս հարկանելով փողս, եւ զկնի կուսանք ձայնարկուք սեւազգեստք եւ աշխարող կանայք, եւ զհետ` բազմութիւն ռամկին:
| 60:13 The coffin he says was of gold; the bier and litter were of silk; the robes around the body were threaded with gold; the crown on his head and the arms set before him were of gold; around the bier were his sons and a host of his kinsmen, and beside them the military - the leaders and companies of the princely houses, the troops of soldiers, all armed as if to march out to war. In front they blew bronze trumpets, behind came wailing maidens dressed in black and mourning women, and then followed and the mass of the common people:

60:15 Եւ շուրջ զգերեզմանաւն լինէին կամաւոր մահունք, որպէս վերագոյնն ասացաք:
| 60:15 Around the tomb were willing deaths, as we said above:

60:16 Եւ սորա այսպէս սիրելի եղեալ աշխարհիս մերոյ, թագաւորեալ ամս քառասուն եւ մի:
| 60:16 This sovereign, so beloved to our country, reigned forty- one years:
