65:1 Յաղագս թագաւորելոյն Վաղարշայ, եւ շինելոյ զաւանն Բասենոյ, եւ պատել պարսպաւ զՆոր քաղաք, եւ պատերազմ ընդ Խազրաց եւ մահ նորին:
| 65:1 Concerning the reign of Vaḷarsh, the building of the town of Basean, the surrounding of Nor K’aḷak’ with a wall, the war against the Khazars, and his death:

65:2 Յետ մահուանն Տիգրանայ թագաւորէ Վաղարշ որդի նորին յերեսներորդի եւ երկրորդի ամի հոմանուանն իւրոյ Վաղարշայ Պարսից արքայի:
| 65:2 After the death of Tigran his son Vaḷarsh came to the throne in the thirty- second year of his homonym, Vaḷarsh king of Persia:

65:3 Սա շինէ աւան մեծ զտեղի ծննդեան իւրոյ ի վերայ ճանապարհին. ուր ի գնալ մաւր իւրոյ ի ձմերոց յԱյրարատ, յանկարծակի պատահեալ երկանց ի գնացսն` ծնաւ ի վերայ ճանապարհին, ի գաւառին Բասենոյ, ի տեղւոջն, ուր խառնին Մուրց եւ Երասխ. զոր շինեաց յիւր անուն եւ կոչեաց Վաղարշաւան:
| 65:3 He built up the place of his birth on the road into a great town; this was where, as his mother was going to her winter residence in Ayrarat, she was surprised by the pains of labor on her way and gave birth on the road, in the province of Basean at the place where the Murts’ and Araxes join:

65:4 Սա պատեաց պարսպաւ եւ զհզաւր աւանն Վարդգէսի, որ ի վերայ Քասախ գետոյ. զորմէ յառասպելսն ասեն. «Հատուած գնացեալ Վարդգէս մանուկն ի Տուհաց գաւառէն, զՔասաղ գետով, եկեալ նստաւ զՇրէշ բլրով, զԱրտիմէդ քաղաքաւ, զՔասաղ գետով, կռել կոփել զդուռնն Երուանդայ արքայի:
| 65:4 This spot he built up and called Vaḷarshavan after his own name. He also surrounded with walls the strong town of Vardgēs on the River K’asakh, of which they say in the fables: Vardgēs as a child left the province of Tuh by the River Khasaḷ and came to dwell by the hill of Shresh by the city of Artimed on the River Khasaḷ, to hammer and batter at the gate of Eruand the king:

65:5 Այս Երուանդ` առաջինն է, սակաւակեացն, որ ի Հայկազանց, զորոյ զքոյրն կին առեալ Վարդգէսի` շինեաց զաւանս զայս. յորում եւ Տիգրան միջին յԱրշակունեաց նստոյց զհասարակ առաջնոյ գերութեանն Հրէից. որ եղեւ քաղաքագիւղ վաճառաւք:
| 65:5 This Eruand was the first of that name, the short- lived one who was descended from Hayk; Vardgēs, having married his sister, built this town. Here the middle Tigran of the Arsacid family settled the entire first colony of Jewish captives, and it became a commercial town:

65:6 Այժմ այս Վաղարշ պատեաց պարսպաւ եւ հզաւր պատուարաւ, եւ անուանեաց Վաղարշապատ, որ եւ Նոր քաղաք:
| 65:6 Now this Vaḷarsh surrounded it with a wall and strong ramparts and called it Vaḷarshapat; it is also called Nor K’aḷak’:

65:7 Սա թագաւորեալ ամս քսան, մեռաւ:
| 65:7 Having ruled for twenty years he died:

65:8 Թէ լոկ եւ այլքն կեցին, բայց ասեմ զսա եւ յետ մահուանն կեալ, յաղագս բարի անուանն քան զթուլագոյնս ի թագաւորացն:
| 65:8 Although others simply lived, yet I say that he lives on even after his death on account of his repute, which is greater than that of lazier kings:

65:9 Վասն զի ի սորա աւուրս միաբանեալ ամբոխութիւն հիւսիսականաց, զԽազրաց ասեմ եւ զԲասլաց, արտաքս քան զդուռն Ճորայ ելանեն, առաջնորդ եւ թագաւոր ունելով ինքեանց զՎնասեպ ոմն Սուրհապ. որք անցեալ վտարին այսր զԿուր գետով:
| 65:9 Because in his days the hosts of the northern peoples united, I mean the Khazars and Basilk’, and passing through the Chor gate under the leadership of their king, a certain Vnasep Surhap, they crossed to this side of the River Kura:

65:10 Որոց պատահեալ Վաղարշ ամբոխիւ մեծաւ եւ արամբք մարտկաւք` ցիր դիաթաւալ կացուցանէ զամբոխն ընդ երեսս դաշտին, եւ ձիգ զհետ եղեալ` անցանէ ընդ կապանն Ճորայ:
| 65:10 Vaḷarsh opposed them with a great force of warlike soldiers and scattered their host as corpses over the plain. Pursuing them for a long distance, he pushed them back through the Chor pass:

65:11 Ուր միւսանգամ միաբանեալ թշնամեացն` յաւրինեցին ճակատ. զորս թէպէտ եւ վանեալ քաջացն Հայոց` փախստականս առնէին, սակայն Վաղարշ մեռանի ի ձեռաց կորովեաց աղեղնաւորաց:
| 65:11 There once again the enemy united and drew up their battle line; and although the valiant Armenians routed them and put them to flight, yet Vaḷarsh died at the hands of their expert archers:

65:12 Եւ առնու զթագաւորութիւնն Խոսրով որդի նորին յերրորդ ամի Արտաւանայ Պարսից արքայի:
| 65:12 Khosrov his son succeeded to the throne in the third year of Artavan, king of Persia:

65:13 Եւ նոյն հետայն միաբանեալ զզաւրս Հայոց, անցանէ ընդ լեառնն մեծ, վրէժս պահանջելով զմահուան հաւրն. եւ վանեալ սրով եւ գեղարդեամբ զհզաւր ազգսն զայնոսիկ, մի ի հարիւրոց յամենեցունց պիտանեացն առնու պատանդս. եւ զիւրոյ տէրութեանն նշանակ` արձան հաստատէ հելլենացի գրով, որպէս զի յայտ լիցի ընդ հնազանդութեամբ լինել Հռոմայեցւոց:
| 65:13 Immediately thereafter he gathered the Armenian army and passed across the great mountain to exact vengeance for his father’s death. Routing those powerful nations with sword and lance, he took hostage one out of every hundred of all their active men, and as a token of his own authority he set up a stele with an inscription in Greek so that it would be clear that he owed allegiance to the Romans:
