68:1 Զթագաւորական ազգացն, յորմէ ցեղք պարթեւականք որոշեցան:

68:2 ՅԱդամայ քսաներորդ առաջներորդ նահապետ մեզ զԱբրահամ աստուածայինքն ցուցանեն պատմութիւնք, եւ ի նմանէ եղեալ ազգդ Պարթեւաց:
| 68:2 The divine Scriptures show us that the twenty- first patriarch after Adam was Abraham, and from him descends the nation of the Parthians:

68:3 Քանզի ասէ, յետ մեռանելոյն Սառայի` առեալ Աբրահամու կին զՔետուրայ. յորմէ ծնան Եմրան եւ եղբարք նորա, զորս Աբրահամ ի կենդանութեանն իւրում մեկնեաց յԻսահակայ, արձակելով յերկիրն արեւելից:
| 68:3 For Scripture says that after the death of Sarah, Abraham married K’etura, from whom were born Emran and his brothers. These Abraham in his own lifetime separated from Isaac, sending them to the east:

68:4 Յորոց սերեալ ազգ Պարթեւաց. եւ ի նոցանէ Արշակ քաջ, որ ապստամբեալ ի Մակեդոնացւոց` թագաւորեաց յերկրին Քուշանաց ամս երեսուն եւ մի. եւ յետ նորա որդի նորին Արտաշէս ամս քսան եւ վեց. ապա Արշակ նորին որդի, որ կոչեցաւն մեծ, որ զԱնտիոքոսն եսպան եւ զՎաղարշակ զեղբայր իւր թագաւոր կացոյց Հայոց, երկրորդ իւր առնելով:
| 68:4 From them springs the nation of the Parthians, and descended from these is Arshak the Brave, who rebelled against the Macedonians and reigned in the land of the Kushans for thirty- one years; and after him his son Artashēs for twenty- six years, and then Arshak, the latter’s son, called “ the great,” who killed Antiochus and made his brother Vaḷarshak king of Armenia, appointing him the second in his kingdom:

68:5 Եւ ինքն չուեալ ի Բահլ` հաստատեաց զթագաւորութիւն իւր ամս յիսուն եւ յերիս. վասն որոյ զարմք նորա Պահլաւք անուանեցան, որպէս եւ եղբաւրն Վաղարշակայ ի նախնւոյն անուն` Արշակունիք:
| 68:5 He himself went to Bahl and ruled securely for fifty- three years. Therefore, his offspring were called Pahlavk’ just as those of his brother Vaḷarshak were called Arsacids after their ancestor’s name:

68:6 Եւ են թագաւորք պահլաւիկք այսոքիկ:
| 68:6 And these are the Pahlavik kings:

68:7 Յետ Արշակայ մեծի առնու զթագաւորութիւն նորա Արշական, յերեքտասաներորդի ամի Վաղարշակայ թագաւորին Հայոց` ամս երեսուն. ապա Արշական` ամս երեսուն եւ մի, յետ որոյ Արշէզ ամս քսան. ապա Արշաւիր` ամս քառասուն եւ վեց:
| 68:7 after Arshak the Great, Arshakan succeeded to his throne in the thirteenth year of Vaḷarshak, king of Armenia, and he reigned for thirty years; then Arshakan ruled for thirty- one years, followed by Arshēz for twenty years, then Arshavir for forty- six years:

68:8 Սորա լինին որդիք երեք եւ դուստր մի, որպէս յառաջագոյն ասացի. որոց անուանքն` անդրանկանն Արտաշէս կոչէր, երկրորդին` Կարէն, երրորդին` Սուրէն, եւ դուստրն անուանեալ Կոշմ:
| 68:8 Arshavir had three sons and a daughter, as I said earlier, whose names are the following: the eldest was called Artashēs, the second Karēn, and third Surēn, and the daughter was called Koshm:

68:9 Արդ` յետ հաւրն վախճանելոյ, կամ եղեւ Արտաշիսի ազգաւ ի վերայ եղբարցն թագաւորել. զոր յանձն առեալ եղբարցն, ոչ առաւել ողոքական բանիւք եւ պատրողաւք, քան թէ սաստիւ նուաճեալ նորա:
| 68:9 Now after the death of their father Artashēs wished to reign over his brothers through his descendants. His brothers accepted this, not so much because of his blandishing and deceitful words as because he subdued them by force:

68:10 Եւ Աբգարու պայման ուխտի եւ դաշինս ի միջի հաստատեալ - թագաւորել Արտաշիսի ծննդովք իւրովք. իսկ եթէ հատցին զարմք նորա` եղբարցն մատչել ի թագաւորութիւն ըստ կարգի աւագութեան:
| 68:10 And Abgar established between them a covenant and treaty that Artashēs should reign through his offspring, but that if his progeny were to come to an end, his brothers would accede to the throne in the order of their seniority:

68:11 Եւ Արտաշիսի զայս ի նոցանէ գտեալ` գաւառս պարգեւէ, ազգ զնոսա սերելով յանուն իւրաքանչիւր. եւ ի վերոյ քան զամենայն նախարարութիւնս կարգէ, զնախնականն ի վերայ պահելով զանուն ազգին, զի կոչեսցին այսպէս. Կարենի Պահլաւ, Սուրենի Պահլաւ, եւ քոյրն` Ասպահապետի Պահլաւ, քանզի ի վերայ զաւրաց էր այր նորա:
| 68:11 When Artashēs had obtained this from them, he granted them provinces and ennobled their families after each one’s name. And he promoted them above all the noble families, preserving the original name of each family so that they were called as follows: Karēn Pahlav, Surēn Pahlav, and the sister, Aspahapet Pahlav, because her husband was in command of the army:

68:12 Եւ այսու կարգաւորութեամբս ձգեցան բազում ամս, մինչեւ վերացաւ ի նոցանէ տէրութիւնն:
| 68:12 And under this arrangement they lived for many years until the throne was taken from them:

68:13 Բայց մի՛ աստանաւր բամբասեսցես զմեզ իբրեւ զաւելագործ ոք, որպէս թէ զմի անգամ պատմեալսն դարձեալ ասացաք. այլ գիտեա՛, զի ախորժելով վասն ազգականաց մերոյ Լուսաւորչին քաջահմուտ կամեցեալ լինել ընթերցողացն` կրկնագրեցաք երկրորդելով:
| 68:13 But here do not blame us as one who does superfluous work in that we have again said what has already been told. But know that we are happily repeating this again because we wish our readers to be fully informed about the relatives of our Illuminator:
