79:1 Յաղագս նահատակութեանն Տրդատայ յամս անիշխանութեանն Հայոց:
| 79:1 Concerning the prowess of Trdat during the years of anarchy in Armenia:

79:2 Պատմէ զնահատակութեանցն Տրդատայ, նախ ի մանկութեանն յերիվար կամակար աշտանակեալ, եւ կորովի ձիավարեալ, եւ զէնս շարժեալ յաջողակաբար, եւ այլ պատերազմականս ուսանել ախորժակս. ապա ըստ Պեղոպոնէսացւոց մեհենական հրամանին Հիփիտեայ ի մրցանակս ագոնին առաւելեալ քան զԿղիտոստրադոս հռոդացի, որ զվզէ եւեթ կալեալ յաղթէր. դարձեալ եւ քան զԿերասոս արգիացի, զի նա զկճղակ եզին թափեաց. իսկ սա զերկուց ցլուց վայրենեաց միով ձեռամբ կալեալ զեղջերէն, թափեաց հանդերձ ընդվզեալ ջախջախմամբ:
| 79:2 He speaks of the prowess of Trdat: first of all, in his youth he delighted in horse riding; he was an expert horseman, dexterous in the use of arms, and a willing pupil of other military exercises. And then according to the oracle of the Peloponnesian temple of Hephaistos, in the boxing match he outdid Clitostratos of Rhodes, who used to win by a neck grip, and also Cerasos of Argos; for the latter pulled out the hoof of an ox, whereas he, Trdat with one hand held two wild bulls by the horn, twisted, and threw them with a crash:

79:3 Եւ ի ձիընթացս մեծի կրկիսին կառավարել կամեցեալ` ի հմտութենէ հակառակորդին ոստուցեալ յերկիր անկաւ, եւ բուռն հարեալ արգել զկառսն. ընդ որ ամենեքին զարմացան:
| 79:3 And wishing to drive a chariot in the races of the hippodrome, he was thrown by the skill of his opponent and fell to the ground. But he seized the chariot and stopped it, at which all were amazed:

79:4 Եւ ի պատերազմելն Պրոբոսայ ընդ Գութս, եղեւ սով սաստիկ. եւ յոչ գտանելոյ շտեմարանաց` յարեան զաւրքն ի վերայ եւ սպանին զնա. նոյնպէս եւ ի վերայ ամենայն իշխանացն դիմեցին:
| 79:4 And in the war of Probus against the Goths there was a great famine. Finding no stores, the soldiers revolted and killed him; similarly, they rose up against all the nobles:

79:5 Իսկ Տրդատ միայն ընդդէմ կացեալ` չեթող զոք մտանել յապարանսն Լիկիանոսի, առ որում ինքն Տրդատ էր:
| 79:5 But Trdat alone resisted them, preventing anyone from entering the palace of Licinius, with whom Trdat was living:

79:6 Բայց Կարոս հանդերձ որդւովքն Կարինեաւ եւ Նոմերիանոսիւ թագաւորեաց. եւ զաւրաժողով եղեալ, ետ ճակատ ընդ Պարսից արքային, եւ յաղթեալ` դարձաւ ի Հռոմ:
| 79:6 Cams then reigned with his sons Carinus and Numerian. Gathering an army, he gave battle to the Persian king, and after gaining the victory he returned to Rome:

79:7 Վասն որոյ բազում ազգս ի սատարութիւն կալեալ Արտաշրի, թիկունս արարեալ զանապատն Տաճկաստանի` դարձեալ ետ ճակատ ընդ զաւրս Հռոմայեցւոց կրկին, աստի եւ անտի Եփրատու, յորմէ սպանաւ Կարոս ի Յռինովն:
| 79:7 Therefore Artashir, bringing many nations to his support and having the desert peoples of Tachikastan on his side, gave battle a second time to the Roman army on both sides of the Euphrates. In the battle Carus was killed at Ṙinon:

79:8 Նոյնպէս եւ Կարինոս, որ ի վերայ Կոռնակայ չոգաւ յանապատ, ընդ որում եւ Տրդատ. եւ սատակեցաւ նա եւ զաւրն, եւ մնացեալքն ի փախուստ դարձան:
| 79:8 Similarly Carinus, who had marched into the desert against Koṙnak in the company of Trdat, was slaughtered with his army; those who survived turned in flight:

79:9 Յորում եւ Տրդատայ վիրաւորեալ երիվարն` ոչ աճապարեաց ընդ փախստեայսն, այլ առեալ զզէն իւր եւ զկազմած ձիոյն` ի լուղ ընդ լայնատարած եւ խորայատակն անցանէր ընդ Եփրատ ի բուն զաւրսն իւրեանց, ուր Լիկիանոսն էր:
| 79:9 At this point Trdat’s horse was wounded so he did not gallop away with the fugitives. But he picked up his arms and the horse’s accoutrements and swam across the wide and deep Euphrates to his own army, where Licinius was:

79:10 Ընդ նոյն աւուրս լինի սպանեալ եւ Նոմերիանոս ի Թրակէ, եւ փոխանորդէ զթագաւորութիւնն Դիոկղետիանոս:
| 79:10 In those days Numerian was killed in Thrace, and Diocletian succeeded to the throne:

79:11 Իսկ որ ինչ ի նորա ժամանակի Տրդատայ գործք` ուսուցանէ քեզ Ագաթանգեղոս:
| 79:11 But Agathangelos informs you of Trdat’s various deeds in his time:
