84:1 Սատակումն Սլկունեաց ի Ճենազնոյն Մամգոնայ:

84:2 Ընդ հանգչելն Շապհոյ արքայի Պարսից ի պատերազմացն, եւ ի գնալն Տրդատայ ի Հռոմ առ սուրբն Կոստանդիանոս, պարապ առեալ խորհրդոց Շապհոյ` նիւթէ չարիս ի վերայ մերոյ աշխարհիս. թովեալ զհիւսիսայինսն ամենայն, ելանել ի Հայս` ժամ դնէ եւ իւր գալ Արեաւք ի միւս կողմանէն:
| 84:2 While Shapuh, king of Persia, rested from his wars, Trdat went to Rome to Saint Constantine. Then Shapuh busied himself with plans and plotted evil against our land. Inciting all the northern peoples to advance on Armenia, he appointed a time for his own arrival with the Aryans from the other direction:

84:3 Ի նորին բանս հրապուրեալ Սղուկ նահապետ ազգին Սլկունեաց, զինքեանն սպանանէ զփեսայ, զծերացեալն Օտայ, որ էր ի տոհմէն Ամատունեաց եւ սնուցող Խոսրովիդխտոյ քեռ թագաւորին:
| 84:3 Seduced by his words, Sḷuk, the prince of the Sḷkuni family, killed his own son- in- law, the old Awtay who was of the Amatuni family and had been the guardian of Khosrovidukht, the king’s sister:

84:4 Եւ այն ինչ ընդ հուպ եկեալ մեծին Տրդատայ յարեւմտից եւ լուեալ զայս ամենայն, եւ գիտացեալ, թէ ոչ ի ժամադրութիւնն եկն Շապուհ` խաղայ ի վերայ հիւսիսականացն:
| 84:4 Very soon after this Trdat the Great arrived from the west, and having learned about all this and having discovered that Shapuh had not arrived at the appointed time, he marched against the northern peoples:

84:5 Իսկ նահապետ ազգին Սլկունեաց ամրանայր յամրոցին, որ անուանեալ կոչի Ողական, ապաւէն առնելով իւրեանց զբնակիչս Սիմն կոչեցեալ լերինն. եւ ընդդիմացեալ թագաւորին` աղմկէր զերկիրն, եւ մերձ առ լերամբն ոչ թողացուցանէր այլում պարապել գործոյ:
| 84:5 But the prince of the Sḷkuni family fortified himself in his castle, which was called Oḷakan, where he had as refuge the inhabitants of the mountain called Sim. Opposing the king, he threw the land into confusion; and in the vicinity of the mountain he did not allow people to attend to any work:

84:6 Ասէ ցամենայն նախարարութիւնս տանս Հայոց պարապել գործոյ:
| 84:6 The king said to all the princely houses of Armenia to attend to any work:

84:7 Ասէ ցամենայն նախարարութիւնս տանս Հայոց արքայ. «Որ ոք ածցէ առ իս զնահապետն ազգին Սլկունեաց` տաց նմա յաւիտենական իշխանութեամբ զգեաւղս եւ զդաստակերտս, եւ զամենայն իշխանութիւն ազգին Սլկունեաց:
| 84:7 The king said to all the princely houses of Armenia: “ Whoever brings to me the prince of the Sḷkuni family, to him I shall give, with perpetual jurisdiction, villages and estates and all the domains of the Sḷkuni family:

84:8 Զոր յանձն առնոյր ճենազնեայն Մամգոն:
| 84:8 This Mamgon, the Chinese, undertook:

84:9 Եւ ի խաղալ թագաւորին զկողմամբք Աղուանից ի վերայ հիւսիսականացն` գնաց Մամգոն ամենայն աղխիւն իւրով զկողմամբք Տարաւնոյ, որպէս թէ ապստամբեալ ի թագաւորէն. եւ ի չու անկեալ, առաքէ գաղտագնաց հետեւակս, զգացուցանելով նահապետի ազգին Սլկունեաց զգնալն թագաւորին զկողմամբք Աղուանից. «Վտանգ մեծ է, ասէ, թագաւորին Տրդատայ, վասն որոյ գնաց զկողմամբք Աղուանից պատերազմել ընդ ամենայն լեռնոտնեայսն. վասն որոյ մեր է ժամանակ ի ճահ խորհել եւ գործել որ ինչ կամք են. զի խորհեալ եմ դաշնաւոր լինել ընդ քեզ` վասն արհամարհանաց իմոց որ ի թագաւորէն:
| 84:9 While the king marched to the regions of Albania against the northern peoples, Mamgon came with all his entourage to the regions of Tarawn as if in revolt against the king. And on setting out he secretly sent men on foot to inform the prince of the Sḷkuni family about the king’s departure for Albania. “ The danger is great,” he said, “ for King Trdat; therefore, he went to the regions of Albania to wage war against all the northern peoples. So, the time is now suitable for us to plan and execute whatever we wish. I have decided to ally myself with you because of the insults I have suffered from the king:

84:10 Ընդ որ յոյժ ուրախացեալ նահապետ ազգին Սլկունեաց` ընդունի զնա երդմամբ ուխտից. բայց յամուրն ոչ թողու, մինչեւ տեսանել, թէ ո՛րպէս պահիցէ զմտերմութիւն երդմանցն եւ դաշնաւորութեանց:
| 84:10 At this the prince of the Sḷkuni family greatly rejoiced, and he received him with a sworn oath. But he did not allow him into the fortress until he might see how he would keep faith with the oaths and treaties:

84:11 Իսկ ասացեալն Մամգոն ամենայնիւ ջանացեալ զմտերմութիւն ցուցանել առ ապստամբն` հաւատարմացաւ նմա որպէս արդարեւ միամիտ գործակից. մինչեւ հրամայեաց նմա համարձակ մտանել յամուրն եւ ելանել:
| 84:11 But the aforementioned Mamgon tried in every way to indicate his friendship for the rebel and persuaded him that he was truly a sincere ally until he ordered him freely to enter and leave the fortress:

84:12 Եւ յետ բազում վստահութեանն, ի միում աւուրց հաւանեցուցանէ զնահապետ ազգին Սլկունեաց ելանել արտաքս յամրոցէն եւ որսալ երէս. եւ ի միջամուխ լինել որսոցն` դիպեցուցանէ աղեղամբն ընդ մէջ թիկանցն, եւ կործան յերկիր զարկուցանէ զապստամբն:
| 84:12 After many promises of fidelity, one day he persuaded the prince of the Sḷkuni family to leave the fortress to hunt wild beasts. During the hunt he shot an arrow into the middle of his back and struck the rebel to the ground:

84:13 Եւ ընթացեալ իւրովք արամբքն ի դուռն ամրոցին` ունի զբերդն, կապելով զամենայն արս որ ի ներքս:
| 84:13 Hastening with his men to the gate of the fortress, he seized the castle and imprisoned all those inside:

84:14 Նա եւ զազգն Սլկունեաց խորհեցաւ բառնալ, եւ կոտորեաց զամենեսեան. երկուք ոմանք փախստական անկան յաշխարհն Ծոփաց:
| 84:14 He also decided to destroy the family of the Sḷkuni, and he slaughtered them all. But two escaped in flight to the land of Tsop’k’:

84:15 Իսկ Մամգոն վաղվաղակի զգացուցանէ թագաւորին. ընդ որ ուրախացեալ Տրդատայ, գրէ հրովարտակ` իշխել նմա ամենայնի զոր խոստացաւն, եւ կարգէ զնա նախարար ի տեղի ապստամբին, անուանելով յանուն իւր Մամգոնեան:
| 84:15 Mamgon quickly informed the king. Trdat, delighted with the news, wrote an edict that he was to have authority over all the lands that he had promised, and he made him a prince in the place of the rebel with the title Mamgonean after his own name:

84:16 Բայց մնացելոցն Սլկունեաց հրամայէ չվնասել:
| 84:16 But he ordered the Sḷkunik’ who remained not to be harmed:
