87:1 Պարտումն Շապհոյ եւ ակամայ հնազանդութիւն ընդ ձեռամբ մեծին Կոստանդիանոսի. եւ Տրդատայ ունել զԵկբատան, եւ գալ ազգականացն. եւ թէ յայնժամ եղեւ գիւտ փրկական փայտին:
| 87:1 The defeat of Shapuh and his unwilling submission to Constantine the Great, Trdat’s capture of Ecbatana and the arrival of his relatives, and the discovery of the saving wood at that time:

87:2 Բայց Տրդատայ թէպէտ եւ զյաղթութիւն ստացեալ էր, այլ ի հարկանելոյ զաւրուն եւ ի բազում անկելոց նախարարացն` զանգիտեաց ինքեամբ յատուկ մարտնչել ընդ Շապհոյ, մինչեւ եհաս բազմութիւն զաւրուն Հռոմայեցւոց, որք ընդ Ասորեստան յարձակեցան. եւ ի փախուստ զՇապուհ դարձուցին, յաւարի զամենայն երկիրն առեալ:
| 87:2 But Trdat, although he had gained the victory, nonetheless because his army had been mauled and many princes had fallen, hesitated to challenge Shapuh alone before being joined by the mass of the Roman army, which had attacked Assyria, put Shapuh to flight, and plundered the whole land:

87:3 Քանզի եւ Տրդատ միահամուռ իւրովքն, եւ որք ընդ իւրովքն էին զաւրքն, ընդ հիւսիսային կողմանս իշխանութեանն Պարսից դիմեաց տարեկան չուաւորութեամբ:
| 87:3 Then Trdat, with all his men and the troops under them, invaded the northern regions of the Persian empire in a year- long expedition:

87:4 Յայնժամ գայ առ նա ազգականն իւր եւ հարազատ Կամսար, առաջին որդի Պերոզամատայ:
| 87:4 At that time there came to him his relative and kinsman Kamsar, the eldest son of Perozamat:
|
87:5 Այս Պերոզամատ է այն տղայն, որ ի կոտորելն Արտաշրի զցեղն Կարենեան Պահլաւին, փախուցեալ Բուրզայ ապրեցուցանէր:
| 87:5 This Perozamat was the boy whom Burz had rescued and saved when Artashir had slaughtered the Karenean branch of the Pahlav:

87:6 Որոյ հասեալ յերիտասարդութիւն` ի պատիւ հաւրն եւ ի վերայ զաւրուն կարգի յԱրտաշրէ, առ ի պատերազմել ընդ խուժադուժ ազգսն ընդ այնոսիկ, նենգութեամբ խորհեալ արկանել զնա ի ձեռս բարբարոսաց:
| 87:6 When he reached puberty, he was established by Artashir in his father’s rank and put in command of the army with a view to making war against those barbarous nations, though deceitfully he planned to cast him into the hands of the barbarians:

87:7 Որոյ եղեալ այր քաջ` սքանչելապէս մղեաց զպատերազմունս. եւ ի պարտել զՎզըրկն որ անուանէր Խաքան, նուաճեալ` տայ զդուստր իւր նմա կնութեան. նա եւ այլ կանայս առեալ, զմերձաւորս Արտաշրի, եւ բազում որդիք եղեալ, զաւրացեալ բռնութեամբ ունի զկողմանսն զայնոսիկ. թէպէտ եւ էր ի համար Արտաշրի` այլ ոչ տեսանէ զնա:
| 87:7 He was a valiant man, wonderfully adept at war; and when he defeated Vzurk, who was called Khak’an, the latter, vanquished, gave him his daughter in marriage. Similarly, he took many wives from the relatives of Artashir, and having many sons he grew powerful and held those regions under his control:

87:8 Եւ ի մեռանելն Արտաշրի ոչ հնազանդի որդւոյ նորա Շապհոյ. եւ ի մարտնչելն ի բազում պատերազմունս յաղթէ, եւ ի մտերմացն Շապհոյ դեղակուր եղեալ մեռանի:
| 87:8 Although he was esteemed by Artashir he would not see him; and on Artashir’s death he did not submit to his son Shapuh, but in the course of many battles defeated him. But he was poisoned by Shapuh’s friends and died:

87:9 Առ նովիմբ ժամանակաւ այլ ոմն կացեալ Վզըրկ Խաքան, որ թշնամութեամբ ընդ Կամսարայ որդւոյ նորա վարէր:
| 87:9 At the same time there lived another Vzurk Khak’an who was an enemy of Kamsar, his Perozamat’s son:

87:10 Իսկ Կամսարայ դժուարին վարկուցեալ ի մէջ երկուց հզաւր թագաւորաց բնակել թշնամութեամբ, մանաւանդ զի եւ եղբարքն ոչ միաբանեցան ընդ նմա` խաղացեալ ամենայն ընտանեաւք իւրովք եւ աղխիւ գայ առ Տրդատ մեր թագաւոր, եղբարց նորա առ Շապուհ երթալով:
| 87:10 But Kamsar, considering it difficult to live in enmity between two powerful kings, especially because his brothers were not united with him, set out with all his family and entourage and came to Trdat our king, while his brothers went to Shapuh:

87:11 Այս Կամսար ահագին քաջութեամբ նահատակեալ առ հարբն ի պատերազմունս, ի շահատակելն իւրում հարկանի յումեմնէ սակերբ զգլուխն. եւ վերացուցեալ մասն ինչ յոսկերէ սկաւառակին, բժշկեալ ի դեղոց, պակաս գոլով բոլորութիւն գագաթանն` անուանեցաւ Կամսար այնր աղագաւ:
| 87:11 This Kamsar fought with fearsome bravery in the wars during his father’s lifetime. But in one of his intrepid assaults he was struck by someone on the head with an axe, and a part of the bone of his skull was removed. Although he was cured by medicines, the curve of his head remained incomplete, and for this reason he was called Kamsar:

87:12 Բայց Տրդատայ իւր հաստատեալ զեաւթնպարսպեանն Եկբատան, երկրորդ եւ վերակացուս յինքենէ թողեալ` դառնայ ի Հայս, ընդ իւր ածելով զԿամսար ամենայնիւքն:
| 87:12 But Trdat secured for himself the seven- walled Ecbatana, and leaving there his second in command and governors, he returned to Armenia, taking with him Kamsar and all his men:

87:13 Քանզի Շապուհ աղաչեաց զյաղթողն Կոստանդիանոս` խնդրել զհաշտութիւն եւ հաստատել զխաղաղութիւն մշտնջենաւոր. զոր արարեալ սրբոյն Կոստանդիանոսի, յետ այնորիկ, առաքեաց զՀեղինէ զմայր իւր յԵրուսաղէմ ի խնդիր պատուական խաչին. զոր եւ եգիտ իսկ զփրկական փայտն հանդերձ հինգ բեւեռաւքն, ի ձեռն Յուդայի հրէի, որ ապա եկաց եպիսկոպոս յԵրուսաղէմ:
| 87:13 For Shapuh had begged his victor Constantine for a treaty and the establishment of eternal peace. This Saint Constantine did, and then he sent his mother Helen to Jerusalem to seek the honorable cross. She found the saving wood with the five nails through Juda, a Jew, who later became bishop of Jerusalem:
