28:1 Առումն Տիգրանակերտի եւ բնաբարձ քանդումն:
| 28:1 The capture of Tigranakert and its complete destruction:

28:2 Իսկ Շապուհ եկեալ ի Տիգրանակերտ, դարձեալ աղխեցին ընդդիմանալ նմա. եւ ելեալ ի պարիսպն աղաղակէին. «Գնա՛ ի մէնջ, Շապուհ, զի մի՛ չարիս յերկրորդումս ընդ քեզ առաւել եւս քան զառաջինն անցուցանիցեմք պատերազմաւ:
| 28:2 When Shapuh came to Tigranakert, they again fortified the town to oppose him, and going onto the walls, cried out: “ Depart from us, Shapuh, lest we bring even greater disaster in war upon you this second time than we did the first time:

28:3 Եւ նա պատասխանեաց. «Ո՜վ քաջքդ ի Հայոց, որք զանձինս արգելեալ փակեցէք ընդ պարսպաւքդ Տիգրանակերտի եւ արտաքս ձայն արկանէք սպառնալեաց. զի քաջ արանց է յարձակ դաշտի եւ յազատ տեղւոջ կռուել, եւ կանանց գործ է արգելուլ փակել զինքեանս յերկիւղէ առ հանդերձեալ կռիւսն:
| 28:3 He replied: “ O brave Armenians who have locked yourselves up within the walls of Tigranakert and shout threats, it is the mark of valiant men to fight on the open plain and in an unimpeded spot, while it is the mark of women to shut oneself up from fear of an impending battle:

28:4 Եւ զայս ասացեալ` դարձաւ առ գերեալ Յոյնսն զինաւորս, ասէ. «Եթէ ձերով մարտիւ առից զայս քաղաք` զամենեսեան զձեզ արարից ազատս հանդերձ ընտանեաւք ձերովք:
| 28:4 Having said this, he turned to the Greek soldiers he had captured and said: “ If with your support I take this city, I shall free you all with your families:

28:5 Եւ պարսկական զաւրուն շուրջ զքաղաքաւն հրամայեաց ընթանալ, եւ նետիւք խոցոտել զի վերայ պարսպին:
| 28:5 He ordered his Persian army to surround the city and to shoot with arrows those on the wall:

28:6 Եւ Յունացն մատուցեալ մեծաւ բռնութեամբ յեցուցին ի պարիսպն զկոչեցեալ էշսն:
| 28:6 The Greeks approached in great force and leaned the so- called donkeys against the wall:

28:7 Եւ է այս գործի մեքենայից անուաւոր, յերից երից արանց մղելով տարեալ, եւ ի ներքուստ կացնովք եւ սակրաւք երկբերանովք եւ կտցաւոր մրճովք` փորել զհիմունսն:
| 28:7 These are wheeled machines, pushed along by three men, with axes, double- edged hatchets, and mattocks inside to undermine the foundations:

28:8 Եւ նգախարխար արարեալ զայն, որ ի հայկազնոյն Տիգրանայ հոծեալ եւ յարմարեալ որմունքն, քակեալ ընկեցին. եւ հուր ի դրունսն եւ յամենայն կողմանսն վառեալ, եւ քարինք եւ նետք եւ տէգք արձակեալք լինէին, եւ խոցոտեալ մերքն յապուշ դառնային:
| 28:8 So they demolished and threw down the walls that had been firmly raised by Tigran, the descendent of Hayk. They set fire to the gates and all parts of the city, hurled stones and arrows and lances, so our troops were wounded and dazed:

28:9 Եւ ի ներքս մտեալ բոլոր զաւրքն` եւ ձեռն պարսկական ոչ վաստակէր զբազմախողխող երկաթն արեամբ արբուցանել, մինչեւ ապաժոյժ սպանելոցն լցեալ ի հիմունսն ծաւալէր:
| 28:9 Then the whole army entered inside, and the Persian soldiers did not tire of drenching their murderous swords in blood until the gore of the murdered overflowed the foundations:

28:10 Այլ յունականն ձեռն ի քթթել ական հրձիգ առնէր զամենայն փայտակերտսն:
| 28:10 The Greek soldiers in the twinkling of an eye set fire to all the wooden constructions:

28:11 Եւ Շապհոյ զմնացեալսն ի կոտորածէն գերեալ` չուէ ի Պարսս. եւ հրեշտակս առ որ ի Հայս գունդք առաքեալ` անպայազատ զՍիւնեացն հրամայէ առնել զտոհմ:
| 28:11 Shapuh took into captivity those who survived the massacre and returned to Persia. He sent messengers to his forces in Armenia, ordering them to exterminate the house of Siunik’:
