56:1 Որ ինչ զկնի գնալոյն ի Հայոց Շապհոյ, եւ անիշխանութեանն յետ նորա:
| 56:1 What happened after the coming of Shapuh to Armenia, and the anarchy after him:

56:2 Զքառեամ անարգաբար թագաւորեալ Հայոց Շապհոյ` հասանէ նմա համբաւ հիւանդութեան հաւրն, եւ գնայ փութանակի, իւրում տեղակալին հրամայելով զաւրագլխի` ունել զմեծամեծս Հայոց եւ տանել ի Պարսս:
| 56:2 After reigning in ignominy over Armenia for four years Shapuh received word of his father’s illness. He departed in haste, ordering his deputy the general to arrest the Armenian magnates and bring them to Persia:

56:3 Բայց իբրեւ եղեւ հասանել Շապհոյ ի Տիսբոն` մեռաւ հայրն նորա Յազկերտ, թագաւորեալ ամս մետասան:
| 56:3 On Shapuh’s arrival at Ctesiphon has father Yazkert died after a reign of eleven years:

56:4 Ի նմին աւուր եւ նա անդէն ի դրանն մարդկանէ նենգեալ` սատակեցաւ:
| 56:4 And on that same day Shapuh was also killed by the treachery of the courtiers:

56:5 Իսկ ի ձեռն քաջին եւ բարեբախտին Ներսիսի Ճիճրակացւոյ զաւրագլուխ եղելոյ ժողովեալ նախարարացն Հայոց հանդերձ զաւրաւք իւրեանց` տան ընդ գնդին Պարսից պատերազմ. հարկանեն զզաւրսն, եւ սպանանէ Ապրսամ Սպանդունի զզաւրագլուխն. եւ ինքեանք ցրուեալք, տիրագլուխք անձնապահապետք յամենայն լերինս եւ յամուրս շրջէին. յորում համաւրէն Վանանդացին երեւեցան նահատակեալք քաջութեամբ:
| 56:5 But under the valiant and successful Nersēs Chichrakats’i, who had been appointed general, the Armenian princes gathered together with their armies and gave battle to the Persian force. They cut down their army, and Aprsam Spanduni killed their general. They scattered leaderless, each seeking his own safety, and wandered about in all the mountains and inaccessible areas. In this affray the Vanandats’ik’ showed particular heroism and courage:

56:6 Ուստի աղմկաւ եւ բազում խռովութեամբ մնացեալ աշխարհս մեր յանիշխանութեան ամս երիս, աւերեալ ամայանայր. վասն որոյ պակասեալ լինէին հարկք արքունի, եւ հատեալ ճանապարհք ռամկաց, եւ ամենայն բարեկարգութիւն վրդովեալ ապականէր:
| 56:6 Thus our land remained in anarchy for three years with tumult and great confusion and was ruined and despoiled. Therefore, taxes were not paid to the court, the roads were closed to the common people, and all organization was thrown into confusion and destroyed:

56:7 Ընդ նոյն աւուրս թագաւորեաց Պարսից Վռամ երկրորդ, եւ զքէն վրիժուց խնդրեաց ի մերմէ աշխարհէս. խաղաղութիւն առնելով ընդ Յոյնս` ոչ ի բաժին նոցա հպի:
| 56:7 In those same days Vṙam the Second became king of Persia, and he sought vengeance from our land. He made peace with the Greeks and did not approach their sector:
