8:1 Թէ ո՛վ կամ ուստի՛ զայսպիսիս եգիտ զրուցաբանութիւնս:

8:2 ԶԱրշակ մեծ, արքայ Պարսից եւ Պարթեւաց, որ եւ ազգաւ իսկ Պարթեւ, ապստամբեալ ասեն ի Մակեդոնացւոց եւ թագաւորեալ ի վերայ ամենայն արեւելից եւ Ասորեստանեայց, եւ սպանեալ զԱնտիոքոս թագաւոր ի Նինուէ` հնազանդեցուցեալ զամենայն տիեզերս ընդ իւրով ձեռամբ:
| 8:2 Arshak the Great, king of the Persians and Parthians, who was Parthian by race, having rebelled against the Macedonians, they say, ruled over all the East and Assyria. He killed Antiochus, the king in Nineveh, and brought into subjection under himself the whole universe:

8:3 Սա թագաւորեցուցանէ զեղբայր իւր զՎաղարշակ ի վերայ աշխարհիս Հայոց, պատեհ համարեալ այսպէս իմն անշարժ իւրոյ թագաւորութեանն մնալ:
| 8:3 He made his brother Vaḷarshak king over this land of Armenia, thinking it convenient in this way to render his own rule unshakable:

8:4 Եւ քաղաք թագաւորութեան տայ նմա զՄծբին, եւ սահմանս հատանէ նմա զմասն ինչ յարեւմտեայ Ասորւոց եւ զՊաղեստին եւ զԱսիա եւ զամենայն Միջերկրեայս եւ զԹետալիա, ի ծովէն Պոնտոսի մինչեւ ի տեղին` ուր Կաւկաս յարեւմտեանն յանգի ի ծով, եւ զԱտրպատական. «եւ այլ որչափ միտք քո եւ քաջութիւն հասանիցեն. զի սահմանք քաջաց, ասէ, զէնն իւրեանց, որքան հատանէ` այնքան ունի:
| 8:4 He gave him Nisibis as his capital and established as his frontiers part of western Syria, Palestine, Asia, and all of Anatolia and T’etalia, from the Sea of Pontus to the place where the Caucasus runs into the Western Sea, and Azerbaijan and other regions “ as far as your mind and valour extend. For the frontiers of the brave,” he said, “ are their weapons; as much as they cut, that much they hold:

8:5 Սորա կարգեալ զիշխանութիւն իւր մեծապէս, եւ հաստատեալ զթագաւորութիւն իւր` կամ եղեւ գիտել սորա, թէ ո՛յք արդեաւք եւ ո՛րպիսի արք տիրեալ իցեն ի վերայ աշխարհիս Հայոց մինչեւ ցնա. զքաջա՞ց արդեաւք եթէ զվատաց անցեալ ունիցի զտեղի:
| 8:5 The latter Vaḷarshak, having ordered his own principality in a grand manner and established his reign, had a desire to know, who and what sort of men had ruled over Armenia up to his time: had he succeeded to the throne of valiant men or of cowards:

8:6 Եւ գտեալ զոմն ասորի Մար Աբաս Կատինայ, այր ուշիմ եւ վարժ քաղդէացի եւ յոյն գրով, զոր յղէ առ եղբայրն իւր Արշակ Մեծ արժանի ընծայիւք, բանալ նմա զդիւանն արքունի:
| 8:6 And finding a certain Syrian, Mar Abas Catina, a diligent man versed in Chaldaean and Greek, he sent him to his brother Arshak the Great with worthy gifts, asking him to open for him the royal archives:
