19:1 Յաղագս միաբանութեանն Տիգրանայ եւ Արտաշիզի, եւ առաքել ասպատակ ի Պաղեստինէ. եւ գերութիւն Հիւրկանու քահանայապետի եւ այլ բազմութեան Հրէից:
| 19:1 Concerning the alliance of Tigran and Artashēs, the incursion into Palestine, the capture of Hyrcanus the high priest and many other Jews:

19:2 Յետ այսր ամենայնի ի հիւանդութեան եղեալ Տիգրան` աղերսէ ի սէր զԱրտաշէզ արքայ Պարսից, յաղագս հպարտութեան հաւրն` հանելով ի նոցանէ զնախագահութիւնն:
| 19:2 After all this Tigran fell ill and requested the friendship of Artashēs, king of Persia, because of his father’s pride in depriving them of the first rank:

19:3 Իսկ սա իւրովք կամաւք զերկրորդականն ունելով ըստ իրաւանց` դարձուցանէ ի նա զնախագահութիւնն. եւ ի հաշտութիւն ածեալ զԱրտաշէզ` առնու ի նմանէ զաւր յաւգնականութիւն ինքեան:
| 19:3 He willingly kept the second rank, as was lawful, and restored to him the first rank. And being reconciled with Artashēs, he received from him an army for his support:

19:4 Յայնմ ժամանակի առեալ Տիգրանայ զԲարզափրան նահապետ Ռըշտունեաց նախարարութեանն` սպարապետ կացուցանէ զաւրացն Հայոց եւ Պարսից եւ առաքէ ի վերայ զաւրացն Հռոմայեցւոց, հրաման տուեալ զբնակիչս աշխարհին Ասորւոց եւ Պաղեստինացւոց ի հաշտութիւն հաւանութեան խաւսել:
| 19:4 Then Tigran took Barzap’ran, prince of the noble family of the Ṙshtunik’, and appointed him commander of the Armenian and Persian armies. He sent him against the Roman army with orders to make an accord with the inhabitants of Syria and Palestine:

19:5 Նմա ընդ առաջ լինի ոմն Պակարոս անուն, որոյ հայրն թագաւոր լեալ Ասորւոց, եւ ինքն խնամի Անտիգոնեայ Արիստաբուղեանց:
| 19:5 He was opposed by a certain Pacorus, whose father had been king of Syria, while he himself was a relative of Antigonus of the family of Aristobulos:

19:6 Եւ եկեալ առ Բարզափրան նահապետ Ռըշտունեաց եւ սպարապետ Հայոց եւ Պարսից` խոստանայ հինգ հարիւր կին գեղեցիկ եւ հազար քանքար ոսկւոյ, զի աւգնեսցէ նոցա` ընկենլով ի թագաւորութենէ Հրէից զՀիւրկանոս, եւ թագաւորեցուցանել զԱնտիգոնոս:
| 19:6 He came to Barzap’ran, prince of the Ṙshtunik’ and commander of the Armenians and Persians, and promised him five hundred beautiful women and a thousand talents of gold if he would help them topple Hyrcanus from the Jewish throne and install Antigonus:

19:7 Իբրեւ ետես Հիւրկանոս Հրէից քահանայապետ եւ թագաւոր, եւ Փասայեղոս եղբայր Հերովդի, եթէ զզաւրս Հռոմայեցւոց փախստական արարեալ, զոմանս ի ծով, զոմանս ի քաղաքս, խաղաղութեամբ ընդ երկիրն անցանէր Բարզափրան` խաւսին եւ ինքեանք զխաղաղութիւն առ Բարզափրան:
| 19:7 When Hyrcanus, high priest and king of the Jews, and P’asayelos, Herod’s brother, saw that Barzap’ran had put the Roman army to flight, chasing some into the sea and others into cities, they themselves made proposals of peace to Barzap’ran:

19:8 Եւ նա զԳնէլ ոմն, որ էր տակառապետ արքային Հայոց, յազգէն Գնունեաց, առաքէ յԵրուսաղէմ հանդերձ հեծելազաւրու, իբր թէ ի պատճառս խաղաղութեան, բայց ի գաղտնիս` աւգնել Անտիգոնեայ:
| 19:8 He sent a certain Gnel, who was the cup bearer of the Armenian king and from the Gnuni family, to Jerusalem with cavalry on the pretext of peace, but secretly in order to help Antigonus:

19:9 Եւ Հիւրկանոս զտակառապետն ամենայն զաւրաւքն ոչ ընդունէր յԵրուսաղէմ, այլ միայն հինգ հարիւր հեծելով:
| 19:9 Hyrcanus did not receive the cup bearer in Jerusalem with all his forces but only with five hundred cavalry:

19:10 Եւ տակառապետին դաւով խրատ տուեալ Հիւրկանու` զի առ Բարզափրան երթիցէ վասն աւերածոյ աշխարհին. եւ ինքն խոստանայր լինել բարեխաւս:
| 19:10 And the cup bearer treacherously advised Hyrcanus to go to Barzap’ran to discuss the ruin of the land, and he himself promised to act as intercessor:
|
19:11 Եւ Հիւրկանու երդումն խնդրեալ ի Բարզափրանայ` երդնու նմա յարեգակն եւ ի լուսին եւ յամենայն պաշտամունս իւրեանց երկնայնիս եւ երկրայինս, եւ յարեւ Արտաշէզի եւ Տիգրանայ:
| 19:11 When Hyrcanus sought an oath from Barzap’ran, he swore to him by the sun and moon and all their cults in heaven and earth and by the sun of Artashēs and Tigran:

19:12 Ընդ որ վստահացեալ Հիւրկանոս` թողու զՀերովդէս ի վերայ Երուսաղեմի, եւ զՓասայելոս զերէց եղբայր Հերովդի առեալ ընդ իւր` գայ առ Բարզափրան ի ծովեզրն, ի գեաւղն որ կոչի Եքտիպոն:
| 19:12 Trusting in this, Hyrcanus left Herod in command of Jerusalem, and taking P’asayelos, Herod’s brother, with him went to Barzap’ran at the seashore to the village called Ek’tipon:

19:13 Եւ Բարզափրան խորամանկութեամբ պատուէր զնոսա. եւ ինքն յանկարծակի գնացեալ անտի` մնացելոց զաւրացն հրաման տայր` ի բուռն առնուլ զնոսա եւ ի ձեռն Անտիգոնի մատնել:
| 19:13 Barzap’ran deceitfully honored them. But suddenly going away himself, he ordered the soldiers who remained to seize them and to hand them over to Antigonus:

19:14 Եւ Անտիգոնոս ի վերայ Հիւրկանու անկեալ` զականջս նորա ատամամբքն ի բաց կտրէր. զի թէ եւ այլ ժամանակ փոխեսցի` անհնար լիցի նմա զքահանայապետութիւնն ունել. քանզի աւրէնքն զողջանդամսն հրամայեն կացուցանել քահանայս:
| 19:14 Antigonus fell on Hyrcanus and bit off his ears with his teeth, so that if the times should change it would be impossible for him to hold the high priesthood, for the law stipulates that only those whole of limb are to be appointed priests:

19:15 Եւ Փասայել եղբայր Հերովդի իւրովի զարկեալ զգլուխ իւր զքարի` առաքեցաւ բժիշկ յԱնտիգոնեայ, իբր թէ բժշկել զնա. ելից զվէրն նորա թունաւոր դեղովք եւ վախճանեցոյց:
| 19:15 And P’asayel, Herod’s brother, of his own accord struck his head against a stone; a doctor was sent by Antigonus as if to heal him, but he filled his wound with poisonous medicaments and killed him:

19:16 Եւ Բարզափրանայ հրաման տուեալ Գնէլոյ տակառապետին արքայի Հայոց յԵրուսաղէմ զՀերովդէս որսալ. իսկ Գնէլ զՀերովդէս արտաքս քան զպարիսպն ելանել պատրէր. զոր չառեալ յանձն Հերովդի, այլ եւ ոչ եւս կալ ի քաղաքին իշխեաց, երկուցեալ ի պատառմանէ Անտիգոնեանցն, ի գիշերի ի ծածուկ ընտանեաւքն հանդերձ առ Եդոմայեցիս փախչէր. ի Մասադան յամուրն թողեալ զընտանիսն` ինքն ի Հռոմ փութայր հասանել:
| 19:16 Barzap’ran ordered Gnel, the Armenian king’s cup bearer, to capture Herod in Jerusalem. Gnel tried to trick Herod into coming out from behind the wall, but Herod did not consent. No longer able to remain in the city because he feared the faction of Antigonus’ supporters, by night he secretly fled with his family to the Idumaeans. He left his family in the fortress of Masada and himself hastened to Rome:

19:17 Բայց զաւրքն Հայոց ձեռնտուութեամբ Անտիգոնեանցն յԵրուսաղէմ մտանէին` ոչ ինչ ումեք վնասեալ, բայց միայն զՀիւրկանու զինչսն առնուին աւելի քան զերեքարիւր քանքար:
| 19:17 But the Armenian army, with the help of the supporters of Antigonus, entered Jerusalem without harming anyone; they merely took Hyrcanus’ possessions, worth more than three hundred talents:

19:18 Եւ ընդ գաւառն ասպատակեալ` զհիւրկանեանսն առեալ աւերէին. զՄարիսացւոց քաղաքն գերի առեալ, թագաւոր կացուցանէին զԱնտիգոնոս:
| 19:18 They pillaged the province, plundered the supporters of Hyrcanus, captured the city of Marisa, and made Antigonus king:
|
19:19 Եւ կապեալ զՀիւրկանոս ածեն Տիգրանայ հանդերձ գերութեամբն. եւ Տիգրան հրաման տայ Բարզափրանայ նստուցանել զգերին Հրէից որ ի Մարիսացւոց` ի քաղաքն Շամիրամայ:
| 19:19 They led Hyrcanus in bonds with the prisoners to Tigran, and Tigran ordered Barzap’ran to settle the captive Jews from Marisa in the city of Semiramis:

19:20 Եւ Տիգրանայ ոչ աւելի բաւեալ քան զերեամ յետ այնորիկ` վախճանի, թագաւորեալ ամս երեսուն եւ երիս:
| 19:20 Tigran did not live more than three years after this before he died, having reigned for thirty- three years:
