36:1 Յաղագս նորոգման Մծբին քաղաքի, եւ անուանակոչութեան Սանատրկոյ եւ մահուան նորին:
| 36:1 Concerning the restoration of the city of Nisibis and the etymology of Sanatruk and his death:

36:2 Այլ որ ինչ գործք եղեալ Սանատրկոյ` ոչ ինչ յիշատակաց արժանի համարեցաք բայց ի շինուածոյ Մծբին քաղաքի:
| 36:2 Of the various acts of Sanatruk we have considered nothing worthy of recording except the construction of the city of Nisibis:

36:3 Զի ի շարժմանէ խախտեալ` քակեաց եւ վերստին շինեաց պայծառագոյն, եւ պարսպեաց կրկին պարսպով եւ պատուարաւ. եւ զինքն անդրի ի միջին հաստատեաց, դրամ մի ի ձեռն ունելով. որ նշանակէ այսպիսի ինչ, եթէ ի շինել քաղաքիս ամենայն գանձքս ծախեցան, եւ այս միայն մնաց:
| 36:3 Because it had been destroyed by an earthquake, he demolished it and rebuilt it even more magnificently, fortifying it with a double wall and outwork. In the middle of the city he set up a statue of himself holding a coin in his hand, which indicates that in the construction of this city all his treasures were spent and only this remained:

36:4 Բայց թէ ընդէ՛ր Սանատրուկ կոչեցաւ` ասելի է:
| 36:4 But we must say why he was called Sanatruk:

36:5 Քանզի յաւուրս ձմերայնոյ ճանապարհորդեալ ի Հայս քոյր Աբգարու Աւգէ` պատահէ բքոյ ի լերինս Կորդուաց. ցրուեաց զամենեսեան մրրիկն, մինչ ոչ գիտել ընկեր զընկեր` ընդ որ վարեցաւ:
| 36:5 Abgar’s sister Awdē was traveling to Armenia in winter when she encountered a snowstorm in the mountains of Korduk’. The tempest scattered them all until no one cotdd descry his traveling companion:

36:6 Իսկ դայեկին նորա Սանոտայ, քեռ Բիւրատայ Բագրատունւոյ, կնոջ Խոսրենայ Արծրունւոյ, առեալ զմանուկն, քանզի տղայ էր, եդ ի մէջ ստեանց իւրոց, մնալով ի ներքոյ ձեանն զերիս տիւս եւ զերիս գիշերս:
| 36:6 Now his nurse Sanota, sister of Biurat Bagratuni and wife of Khosren Artsruni, took the child - for he was an infant - and put him in her bosom, remaining under the snow for three days and three nights:

36:7 Զորմէ առասպելաբանեն, եթէ կենդանի իմն նորահրաշ սպիտակ յաստուածոցն առաքեալ` պահէր զմանուկն:
| 36:7 They tell a fable about this to the effect that a marvelous white animal was sent by the gods and protected the child:

36:8 Բայց որչափ մեք եղաք վերահասու` այսպէս է. շուն սպիտակ ընդ խնդրակսն լեալ, պատահեաց մանկանն եւ դայեկին:
| 36:8 But as far as we understand the matter it happened like this: a white dog, sent out to search for them, found the child and nurse:

36:9 Արդ` կոչեցաւ Սանատրուկ, ի դայեկէն զանուանակոչութիւնն առեալ, որպէս թէ տուրք Սանոտայ:
| 36:9 So he was called Sanatruk, which is derived from the nurse’s name, meaning “ gift of Sanota:

36:10 Սա թագաւորեալ յերկոտասաներորդի ամի Արտաշիսի արքայի Պարսից, կեցեալ ամս երեսուն` մեռաւ յորսի, նետի ուրուք դիպեալ փորոտեացն. իբր թէ վրէժս հատուցեալ ընդ չարչարանաց սրբոյ դստերն:
| 36:10 He came to the throne in the twelfth year of Artashēs, king of Persia, and after living for thirty years died in the hunt, struck in the intestines by an arrow as if in revenge for the torments he inflicted on his saintly daughter:

36:11 Ղեբուբնայ որդի Ափշադարայ դպրի գրեաց զամենայն գործս, որ ինչ յաւուրս Աբգարու եւ Սանատրկոյ, եւ եդ ի դիւանին յԵդեսիայ:
| 36:11 Ḷebubna, son of Ap’shadar the scribe, wrote an account of all the things that occurred in the days of Abgar and Sanatruk and placed it in the archive in Edessa:
