7:1 Յաւրինուած թագաւորութեանն, եւ թէ ուստի՛ զնախարարութիւնսն կարգեաց, ո՛րպէս եւ զիա՛րդ կենցաղավարել հրամայեաց:
| 7:1 The organization of the kingdom, how he organized the principalities, how and in what manner he ordered the way of life:

7:2 Այս դրուագ մեծ, եւ հաւաստի պատմութեամբ լի, եւ արժանի բանից ողորկագունից եւ յոլովից:

7:3 Քանզի բազում ինչ աստ կարգաց եւ յաւրինուածոց տանց, ազգաց, քաղաքաց, շինից, դաստակերտաց, եւ համայն ասել` աւրէն թագաւորութեան, եւ որ ինչ շուրջ զթագաւորութեամբն - զաւրաց, զաւրապետաց, կողմանց կողմակալաց, եւ որ նման այսոցիկ:
| 7:3 Here there is much to say about the ordering and organization of the houses, families, cities, villages, estates, and in general the entire constitution of the kingdom and whatever is of relevance to the kingdom - the army, generals, provincial governors, and similar matters:

7:4 Արդ` նախ եւ առաջին աւրինադրէ թագաւորն զինքն եւ զտուն իւր, սկիզբն առնելով ի գլխոյ իւրմէ եւ ի թագէ:
| 7:4 First and foremost the king regulated his own person and his house, beginning with himself and the crown:

7:5 Եւ զկոչեցեալն Բագարատ, որ ի Հրէիցն, շնորհակալութիւն նմա վասն յառաջագոյն անձնատուր ձեռնտուութեանն առ թագաւորն եւ միամտութեանն եւ քաջութեանն, զյառաջասացեալ տանուտիրական պատիւն ազգին պարգեւելով. եւ իշխել նմա թագ ի գլուխ դնել թագաւորին, եւ կոչել թագադիր, այլ եւ ասպետ. եւ առանց ոսկւոյ եւ ականց, զկրտսեր մարգարիտն երեքտակեան վարսակալ ածել` յորժամ յարքունիս եւ ի տան թագաւորին շրջիցի:
| 7:5 He recompensed the Jew called Bagarat for his previously rendered services to the king and his fidelity and valor by granting to his family the aforementioned rank of prince; he also gave him the authority to place the crown on the king’s head, to be called coronant and aspet, and to wear the lesser diadem of three rows of pearls without gold or gems when he was in attendance at court and in the king’s house:

7:6 Եւ զգեցուցանողս իւր զձեռէս ի զաւակէ Քանանացւոց. եւ անուն կոչէ ազգին Գնթունիս, ոչ գիտեմ է՛ր աղագաւ:
| 7:6 Those who dressed him in his gloves he appointed from the descendants of the Canaanites and called them the family of the Gnt’uni. I do not know for what reason:

7:7 Եւ թիկնապահս իւր, զինու հանդերձ, ի զաւակացն Խոռայ Հայկազնոյ, արս ընտիրս եւ քաջս, նիզակաւորս եւ սուսերաւորս. եւ գլուխ նահապետութեան նոցա զՄաղխազ ոմն այր բարի եւ սրտեայ:
| 7:7 His armed body- guard, he appointed from the descendants of Khoṙ Haykazn, select and valiant men, lancers and swordsmen; and as the head of their principality he appointed a certain Maḷkhaz, a noble and spirited man:

7:8 Բայց անուն ազգին զնախնականն պահէ:
| 7:8 though he kept the original name of the family:

7:9 Իսկ զԴատ ի զաւակէ Գառնկայ, որ ի Գեղամայ, ի վերայ որսոց արքունականաց կարգէ:
| 7:9 Over the royal hunt he set Dat, a descendant of Gaṙnik’s, grandson of Geḷam:

7:10 Որոյ որդի եղեալ Վարժ` յանուն նորա անուանի ազգն. բաց այս զկնի, յաւուրս Արտաշիսի:
| 7:10 His son was Varzh, from whom the family received its name - but this was later, in the time of Artashēs:

7:11 Եւ զԳաբաղ ոմն անուն ի վերայ կուտից, եւ զԱբէլ սպասարար եւ գահաւոր. եւ շէնս պարգեւէ նոցա, յորոց անուն կոչին. սապէս եւ նախարարութիւնքն` Աբեղեանք եւ Գաբեղեանք:
| 7:11 Over the granaries he appointed a certain Gabaḷ, and Abēl as steward and protocol officer. And he granted them villages, which are called after their names. So, these principalities are called Abeḷean and Gabeḷean:

7:12 Եւ զԱրծրունիսդ գիտեմ` ոչ Արծրունիս, այլ արծուի ունիս, որք արծուիս առաջի նորա կրէին:
| 7:12 And the Artsruni I know are not Artsruni but artsui- uni; they carried the eagles before him:

7:13 Թողում զառասպելացն բաջաղանս, որ ի Հադամակերտին պատմին. մանկան նիրհելոյ անձրեւ եւ արեւ հակառակեալ, եւ հովանի թռչնոյ՝ պատանւոյն թալկացելոյ:
| 7:13 I omit the nonsensical fables that are recounted in Hadamakert to the effect that rain and sun were oppressing a sleeping boy, and the shadow of a bird protected the drowsy youth:

7:14 Գիտեմ եւ զԳնունիսդ գինի ունիս, որ զարժանի թագաւորին պատրաստէր զըմպելիսն. որ սքանչելի իմն դիպեալ եղեւ ըստ գործոյն եւ անունն. քանզի պատրաստէր զըմպելիսն արքայի յընտիր եւ ի համեղ գինեաց, ունէր եւ կոչումն անուանն Գին. ընդ որ կարի զուարճացեալ, ասեն, Վաղարշակ` կարգէ ի թիւ նախարարութեան ազգաց:
| 7:14 I know that the Gnuni are gini- uni; they prepared drink worthy of the king. A wonderful thing occurred with regard to their role and name: he who prepared the royal drink from choice and delicious wines was called Gin, and they say that Vaḷarshak was very pleased with him and set him among the number of the princely families:

7:15 Եւ են այս երկու տունքս ի զաւակէ Սենեքերիմայ, Արծրունիք եւ Գնունիք:
| 7:15 And these two houses are descended from Senek’erim, the Artsruni and the Gnuni:

7:16 Ասեմ եւ զՍպանդունիսդ ի վերայ զենարանաց, եւ զՀաւունիսդ` բազէակիրս եւ բազէակալս, յաղագս ի մայրիս բնակելոյ:
| 7:16 I say also that he set the Spanduni over the animals for sacrifice, and the Havuni as falconers and keepers of falcons because they dwelt in the forest:

7:17 Եւ եթէ առ ցոփս ինչ ոչ ունիցիս` եւ զՁիւնականսդ` ամարանոցաց պահակս եւ ձիւնակիրս, եւ յառաջադիմութենէ ազատացեալս, որպէս ընտանիք թագաւորաց:
| 7:17 And if you will not hold me for a prater, the Dziwnakan were guardians of the summer residences and keepers of snow and by advancement were ennobled as relatives of the kings:

7:18 Եւ գունդս եւ պահապանս դրան արքունի կարգէ զչորս, զմի մի իւրաքանչիւր բիւրովք վառելովք ի նոյն ի հին ի զարմից թագաւորացն` որք ի մերոյ նախնւոյն ի Հայկայ, որք բուն ոստանն անուանեալ, որք ընդ ժամանակս ժամանակս ժառանգութիւն ի հարանցն ընկալեալ գիւղս եւ դաստակերտս:
| 7:18 And he established four companies of palace guards, each one with ten thousand armed men from the same ancient race of kings descended from our ancestor Hayk, who were called the original ostan and who at various times had received villages and estates from their fathers by inheritance:

7:19 Իսկ աստ ուրեմն Պարսից թագաւորութեանն, որպէս լսեմ, այլս ոմանս յարուցեալ գունդս եւ ոստան անուանեալ. ոչ գիտեմ թէ վասն սպառելո՞յ ազգին առաջնոյ, թէ վասն ընդդիմութեան իրիք արդեաւք նշկահեալ եւ ի բաց ընկեցեալ զազգն` զայլս ի տեղի նոցա յարուցին գունդս` անուամբ արքունի:
| 7:19 But later, as I hear, the Persian monarchy appointed other companies and called them ostan. I do not know if it was because the former race died out or because of some dispute that they expelled this race and appointed in their place other companies with the royal name:

7:20 Այլ առաջինն հաստատ ի զարմից թագաւորացն առաջնոց. որպէս եւ այժմ ի Վրաց աշխարհին, որ Սէփէծուլն կոչի:
| 7:20 But the first certainly descended from the first kings, just as now in Georgia does the family called Sēp’ētsul:

7:21 Նա եւ ներքինիս հրամայէ ի նոյն ազգէ խզել. եւ նահապետ նոցա զՀայր իշխան մասին յԱտրպատականէ մինչեւ ցՃուաշ եւ ցՆախճաւան, եւ նահապետութեան ազգին սա մեծարոյ:
| 7:21 He also ordered the eunuchs to be taken from the same family, and he set as their commander Hayr, prince of the region from Azerbaijan as far as Chuash and Nakhchavan; he was of an honorable and princely family:

7:22 Բայց թէ որպէս կամ ո՛ւր սորա իրք անցին անյիշատակելի, ես ոչ գիտեմ:
| 7:22 But how or where his deeds passed into oblivion I do not know:
