74:1 Յաղագս գալստեանն Անակայ եւ լինելութեան սրբոյն Գրիգորի:
| 74:1 Concerning the arrival of Anak and the begetting of Saint Gregory:

74:2 Արդ` փախուցեալ ի Խոսրովայ Արտաշիր մինչ ի յաշխարհն Հնդկաց եւ նեղեալ յոյժ` բազում խոստմունս նախարարացն առնէր, թէ ոք բուժեսցէ զնա յայնմանէ, եթէ՛ հնարիւք դեղոց եւ եթէ գաղտնի խողխողմամբ սրոյ. պէս պէս պարգեւս տալ խոստանայր. «Մանաւանդ Պարթեւազանցդ, ասէ, դիւրահնար գոգցես ի ձեռն կեղծաւոր սիրոյ զդաւելն. ազգականութեան անուամբ պատրել` ի դոսա վստահանայ:
| 74:2 Now Artashir fled from Khosrov as far as the land of India; being sorely pressed, he made many promises to his nobles. To the one who would save him from Khosrov, be it by poison or secret assassination, he promised to give all sorts of gifts. “ Especially for the Parthians,” he said, “ it should be easy to trap him through feigned friendship. He trusts in you and will be deceived by the claim to relationship:

74:3 Խոստանայր զբուն տունն դարձուցանել ի նոսա, որ Պահլաւն կոչէր, զարքայանիստ քաղաքն Բահլ, եւ զամենայն աշխարհն Քուշանաց:
| 74:3 And he promised to return to them their original home called Pahlav, the royal city Bahl, and all the country of the Kushans:

74:4 Նա եւ թագաւորութեան ձեւ եւ շուք խոստանայր, եւ զհասարակ Արեաց, ընդ իւրով ձեռամբ երկրորդ իւր լինել:
| 74:4 Similarly he promised the form and splendor of royalty, half of the empire of the Aryans, and second place under his own authority:

74:5 Յոր հրապուրեալ Անակ, որ էր ի ցեղէն Սուրենեան Պահլաւէ` յանձն առնու սպանանել զԽոսրով:
| 74:5 Attracted by this, Anak, who was from the line of Surēn Pahlav, undertook to kill Khosrov:

74:6 Եւ հատուածի պատճառաւ փախստական լինի յԱրտաշրէ. եւ զհետ մտանելով զաւրացն Պարսից առ պատճառէ, որպէս թէ փախստական վարելով զնա ընդ Ասորեստան` հանեն առ եզերբ սահմանացն Ատրպատականի ընդ մէջ Կորդուաց:
| 74:6 Under the pretext of rebellion he fled from Artashir, and the Persian army pretended to pursue him as if expelling him as a fugitive to Assyria. They drove him along the frontiers of Azerbaijan through Korduk’:

74:7 Զոր լուեալ մեծին Խոսրովայ յՈւտէացւոց գաւառին, իբր զԿարենեանցն կարծեցեալ եկաւորութիւն` գունդ առաքէ յաւգնականութիւն Անակայ:
| 74:7 When Khosrov the Great heard of this in the province of Utē, thinking that it was the arrival of the Karenean, he sent a force to Anak’s assistance:

74:8 Որոց պատահեալ Անակայ` ածեն զնա հրամանաւ թագաւորին ի գաւառն, որ անուանեալ կոչի Արտազ, ի տեղի դաշտավայրս, ուր յայտնեցան նշխարք սրբոյ եւ մեծի առաքելոյն մերոյ Թադէի:
| 74:8 They met Anak and brought him at the king’s command to the province called Artaz, to a plain where the relics of our holy and great apostle Thaddaeus were revealed:

74:9 Եւ աստ ասեմ զրոյց զսքանչելի ծերոյն որ ասէր, եթէ «ի նախնեաց ունիմ սովորութիւն, որդի ի հաւրէ առնլով զյիշատակ զրուցացս այսոցիկ», որպէս Ոլիմպիոդորայն յաղագս Տարաւնոյ եւ Սիմն կոչեցեալ լերինն:
| 74:9 Here I repeat a story of the wonderful old man, who said: “ I have from my ancestors the tradition, son receiving from father the remembrance of these tales,” like those of Olympiodorus about Tarawn and the mountain called Sim:

74:10 Արդ` ի բնակելն Անակայ ի դաշտին Արտազու` պատահէ նմա տեղի աւթարանին մաւտ առ դիրս սրբոյ Առաքելոյն, որպէս թէ ի ներքսագոյն սրսկապանի խորանին. եւ անդ ասեն զյղութիւն մաւր սրբոյ եւ մեծի մերոյ Լուսաւորչին:
| 74:10 Now when Anak was dwelling in the plain of Artaz he happened to spend the night by the grave of the holy apostle, which was under the innermost room of his tent. And there they say the mother of our holy and great Illuminator conceived:

74:11 Վասն որոյ եւ զնորին Առաքելոյ շնորհսն ընկալեալ որ առ հանգստարանաւ նորին զլինելութիւն էառ` զնորին ելից զհոգեւոր մշակութեանն պակասութիւն:
| 74:11 Therefore he received the grace of that same apostle, and having been begotten beside his grave he completed what was lacking in his spiritual labors:

74:12 Եւ յետ անցանելոյ երկուց ամաց գալստեանն Անակայ ի Հայս` յերրորդումն սպանանէ զԽոսրով, որ թագաւորեաց ամս քառասուն եւ ութ:
| 74:12 After two years had passed since Anak’s arrival in Armenia, in the third he killed Khosrov, who had reigned forty- eight years:

74:13 Եւ մեռանի ինքն եւ իւրքն ամենայն, պահելով խնամոցն Աստուծոյ զսա միայն, որ ակնարկութեամբն Աստուծոյ եւ շնորհաւք Առաքելոյն ստեղծանել կամ լուսաւորել ասեմք յարգանդի մաւրն, զառաքելութեան իւրոյ զշնորհս ի ձեռն տալով նմա:
| 74:13 And he himself and all his family were put to death; but God’s care saved only the one whom we say was created, or rather illuminated, by God’s providence and the apostle’s grace in his mother’s womb and was entrusted with the grace of his apostolate:

74:14 Իսկ զմնացեալսն ի զրուցացս ուսուցանէ քեզ Ագաթանգեղոս:
