34:1 Ակամայ երթ Արշակայ առ Շապուհ, եւ անդարձ լինել:
| 34:1 Arshak’s unwilling journey to Shapuh, from which he did not return:

34:2 Դարձեալ պարապ առեալ Շապհոյ ի պատերազմացն` առաքէ ի վերայ Արշակայ զԱլանաոզան ոմն պահլաւիկ` հզաւր գնդաւ, որ էր ազգակից Արշակայ:
| 34:2 When Shapuh was again free of wars he sent against Arshak a certain Alanaozan Pahlavik, who was a relative of Arshak’s, with a powerful force:

34:3 Յորմէ խոյս տուեալ Արշակայ, թափուր ի բազմաց մնայր նախարարաց. որոց ձեռն տուեալ յԱլանաոզանն` կամաւ երթային առ Շապուհ, տաղտկացեալ յիւրեանց արքայէն Արշակայ. եւ մեծարեալք ի նմանէ դառնային յաշխարհս մեր:
| 34:3 Arshak fled from him, being deserted by many princes who assisted Alanaozan and willingly went to Shapuh in their dislike of their own king Arshak; after being honored by him they returned to our country:

34:4 Ուստի տարակուսեալ Արշակայ` յղէ պատգամ առ իշխան զաւրուն Պարսից, եթէ «Դու արիւն իմ եւ հարազատութիւն, ընդէ՞ր այդպիսեաւ վարես զիս ջերմութեամբ. թէպէտ եւ ակամայ զգալուստ քո գիտեմ, ոչ կարացեալ սայթաքել զհրամանս Շապհոյ` գալ ի վերայ քո ազգականիս:
| 34:4 Made anxious by this, Arshak sent a message to the leader of the Persian army: “ Why do you, my own blood and kin, press me so fiercely, although I know that you came unwillingly, unable to disobey Shapuh’s orders to attack your own relative:

34:5 Այլ արդ` թուլացո՛ ինձ ղաւղել ուրեք վայրկեան մի ժամանակի, մինչեւ ոգի առեալ` անցանել կարացից յերկիրն Յունաց. եւ դու կալցես զաշխարհս, եւ բազմաց յինէն հանդիպեսցիս բարութեանց, որպէս ի մտերիմ հարազատէ:
| 34:5 But now allow me to hide somewhere for a brief while until I catch my breath and can cross into Greek territory. Then you will seize the land and will receive many blessings from me as from a close relative:

34:6 Դարձուցանէ Ալանաոզանն այսպիսի պատասխանիս, եւ ասէ. «Թէ դու ոչ խնայեցեր յազգայինսն մեր Կամսարականս, որ առաւել քան զիս էին քեզ հարազատագոյնք, դենի ձերոյ մասամբ եւ աշխարհաւ համաբնակաւ, զիա՞րդ յինէն ակն ունիցիս ի քեզ խնայել, հեռացեալ դենիւ եւ բնակութեամբ. եւ որո՞վ աւրինակաւ ես ի քոյսն յուսալով բարիս, որ անյայտ է թէ առից` զգտեալսն յիմմէ թագաւորէն կորուսանիցեմ:
| 34:6 Alanaozan sent back this reply: “ If you were not merciful to our relatives the Kamsarakan, who were much closer relatives of yours than I by sharing your religion and inhabiting your land, how do you expect me to be merciful to you, who am separated from you by religion and country? And why, if I received the benefits, I hope for from you - which is uncertain - should I lose those I already have from my king:

34:7 Ապա այնուհետեւ յոյժ նեղեալ Արշակ, յոչ կամաց երթայ առ Շապուհ, եւ ի պահեստի լինի ի նմանէ. եւ բռնութեամբ հարկաւորեալ գրէ, զի Փառանձեմ կին նորա եկեսցէ ի դուռն:
| 34:7 So then Arshak, exceedingly hard pressed, unwillingly went to Shapuh and was imprisoned by him. He was compelled to write that his wife P’aṙandzem should come to the court:

34:8 Եւ Շապուհ հրամայէ ամենայն մեծամեծացն, զի ընդ Փառանձեմայ եկեսցեն:
| 34:8 And Shapuh ordered all the magnates to come with P’aṙandzem:
