48:1 Դարձ առ Խոսրով նախարարացն, որք էին առ Արշակայ:

48:2 Տեսեալ նախարարացն Հայոց, եթէ ոչ կացուցին Յոյնք ի վերայ նոցա թագաւոր, եւ դժուարին վարկուցեալ զանառաջնորդն լինել` խորհեցան կամաւ հնազանդել թագաւորին Խոսրովու:
| 48:2 The Armenian princes, seeing that the Greeks had not set a king over them and considering it difficult to be without a leader, decided of their own accord to submit to King Khosrov:

48:3 Նմին իրի գրեն առ նա թուղթ աւրինակ զայս:
| 48:3 To this purpose they wrote him a letter in the following terms:

48:5 Ստրատելատ Գազաւոն եւ ամենայն նախարարք Հայոց մասինն Յունաց. տեառն մերում Խոսրովայ արքայի կողմանն Այրարատոյ խնդալ:
| 48:5 General Gazavon and all the Armenian princes of the Greek sector, to our lord Khosrov, king of the region of Ayrarat, greetings:

48:6 Ինքնին, տէր, գիտես զմիամտութիւն մեր առ յիշեցեալ թագաւորին մերում Արշակայ, զոր մինչեւ ցաւր վախճանի նորա անշրջելի պահեցաք. եւ արդ խորհեալ եմք նոյնպէս ծառայել քեզ միամտութեամբ, եթէ հաստատեսցես առ մեզ դաշամբք զերիսս զայս. առաջին` չյիշել զյանցանս մեր, զոր պատերազմեցաք ընդ քեզ ի հարկէ եւ ոչ ի կամաց:
| 48:6 You yourself, lord, know our loyalty for our late King Arshak, which we held inviolate until the day of his death. And now we have decided to serve you with similar fidelity if you confirm for us these three conditions by a pact. First, not to remember our transgressions in that we waged war against you by constraint and not willingly:

48:7 Երկրորդ` զի դարձուսցես ի մեզ զամենայն ժառանգութիւնս մեր որ ի մասինդ Պարսից, զոր հատէք յարքունիս:
| 48:7 Second, that you return to us all our hereditary lands in the Persian sector that you confiscated to the court:

48:8 Երրորդ` հնարել թափել զմեզ ի կայսերէ, զի մի՛ վրդովեսցեն զբնակութիւնս մեր, որք ունիմք իշխանութիւն յայսմ բաժնի:
| 48:8 Third, to find a way to disentangle us from the emperor without them the Greeks disturbing the estates that we possess in this sector:

48:9 Եւ զայս պայման ուխտի գրեալ եւ խաչ հաստատեալ կնքեսցես. զորս տեսեալ` փութասցուք ի ծառայութիւն ձեր:
| 48:9 Put this contract into writing and confirm it with the seal of the cross: when we see it, we shall hasten to your service:

48:13 Քաջ արանց Խոսրով Հայոց արքայ. ստրատելատիդ Գազաւոնի եւ ամենայն նախարարացդ մերոց ողջոյն շատ:

48:14 Ուրախ լերուք, զի եւ մեք ողջ եմք, եւ ուրախացաք ընդ լուր ողջունի ձերոյ. եւ առաքեցաք ըստ խնդրոյ ձերոյ զայս պայման ուխտի:
| 48:14 Rejoice, for we are well and were happy at the news of your greeting. And we have sent this pact in accordance with your request:

48:15 Առաջին` չյիշել զյանցանս ձեր, զոր չունէաք առ յանցանս իսկ, այլ առ երախտաւորս` զմիամտելն առ թագաւորին Արշակունւոյ զոր պաշտէիքն. զի եւ առ մեզ զնոյն յուսամք լինել:
| 48:15 First, not to remember your transgressions, which indeed we did not consider as transgressions but rather as the loyalty of grateful men to the Arsacid king whom you were serving, for we hope that you will be the same toward us:

48:16 Երկրորդ` դարձուցանել ի ձեզ զժառանգութիւնս ձեր, զոր ունիմք յարքունիս. բայց յայնմանէ, զոր ումեք ումեք պարգեւեցաք, զի ոչ շրջին պարգեւք թագաւորաց առանց վնասու, մանաւանդ զի ի դիւան հաւրն մերոյ տեառն Շապհոյ արքայից արքայի եմուտ. այլ փոխանակ ընդ այնր յարքունուստ լնումք եւ զձերոյն պակասութիւն:
| 48:16 Second, to return to you your hereditary lands that we confiscated to the court, with the exception of those that we have granted to various people. For kings’ grants are not revoked without damage, especially because they have been entered into the archives of our father, the lord Shapuh, king of kings. But in their place, we shall fill your needs from the royal treasury:

48:17 Երրորդ` թափեմք զձեզ ի գործակալացն Յունաց, թէպէտ պատերազմաւ ընդ կայսեր, թէպէտ խաղաղութեամբ:
| 48:17 Third, we shall disentangle you from the Greek governors, be it by waging war against the Greek emperor or peacefully:

48:18 Եւ զքեզ, Գազաւոն, արիւն իմ եւ հարազատութիւն, ոչ ըստ վաղնջուց ազգականութեանն, այլ ըստ արդեանս, որ ի մաւրէ քումմէ Արշանուշայ Արշակունւոյ, հանեալ զքեզ ի հայրենեաց քոց Կամսարականաց, եւ ի մայրենիս քո յիմս առեալ ազգ` Արշակունի անուամբ պատուեցից:
| 48:18 And as for you, Gazavon, my blood and kin, not in accordance with your earlier lineage, but in accordance with the rights that you draw from your mother, the Arsacid Arshanoysh, I shall remove you from your ancestral Kamsarakan family and receive you into that of your mother and mine, honoring you with the name of Arsacid:

48:19 Զայս տեսեալ Գազաւոնի` ընդ հուպ դարձուցանէ զբնաւ նախարարսն առ արքայն Խոսրով, եւ բարեբաստիկ եղեալ քաջափառութեամբ, հանդիպի ամենայն խնդրոցն եւ խոստմանցն:
| 48:19 When he saw this Gazavon quickly brought back all the native princes to King Khosrov; he was favored with good fortune and glory, and all his requests and promises were granted:

48:20 Բայց Սամուելի Մամիկոնենի յինքն ըմբռնեալ զթուղթն Խոսրովու եւ զպատճէն թղթոյն նախարարացն` զատուցեալ ի նոցանէ գնաց առ կայսրն Արկադ:
| 48:20 But Samuel Mamikonean acquired Khosrov’s letter and a copy of the princes’ letter, and abandoning them Khosrov and the Armenian princes went to the Emperor Arcadius:

48:21 Քանզի էր սպանեալ նորա զհայր իւր Վարդան յաղագս ուրացութեանն, եւ զմայր իւր Տաճատուրհի, եւ երկնչելով ի Պարսից եւ ի քեռեաց իւրոց Արծրունեաց` ոչ իշխէր զատչել ի Յունաց:
| 48:21 For he had killed his father Vardan because of his apostasy and also his mother Tachaturhi, and being afraid of the Persians and of his Artsruni uncles, he was unable to abandon the Greeks:

48:22 Իսկ Արկադայ բարի արարեալ նմա, հրամայէ զհաւասար թղթոցն հելլէն գրով ի դիւանի իւրում դնել, զի պահեսցին յիշատակք ազգաց ապստամբողաց. որ կայ մինչեւ ցայսաւր:
| 48:22 But Arcadius treated him well and ordered copies of the letters in Greek to be placed in his archives so that the memory of the rebellious families might be preserved. And they exist to this day:
