58:1 Վասն զարեւմտեայս մեր վարդապետելոյ, եւ խաղաղանալոյ բոլորումն, եւ թագաւորելոյն Արտաշրի:
| 58:1 Concerning the instruction of our western regions, and peace in the whole, and the reign of Artashir:

58:2 Եկեալ Մեսրոպայ եւ Վարդանայ ստրատելատի` գտին զզաւրավարն Անատոլ հուպ ի մերս եկեալ սահման. որոյ ընկալեալ զհրամանն արքունի` առաւել յոխորտաբար եւ քաջափոյթ ձեռնարկութեամբ զգործն ի կատարումն աւարտեաց:
| 58:2 When Mesrop and General Vardan arrived, they found that General Anatolius had come up close to our borders. Having received the royal command, with even more ardent and enthusiastic help he brought the matter to completion:

58:3 Քանզի իշխանք եւ գործակալք եւ գլխաւորք եւ որք միանգամ յայտնիք էին ի կողմանն, ի մի վայր եկեալ հասանէին հանդերձ ամենայն քահանայական ազգաւն ինքնակամ, իբրեւ յաստուածառաք ձայնէ հրաւիրեալք. զորս անյապաղաբար սկսեալ ուսուցանել` երագապէս վարդապետեցին զկողմն արեւմտեայ, որպէս զարեւելեայն:
| 58:3 For the nobles and governors and magnates and those who were the most distinguished in the land had willingly joined all the priestly order in one spot, as if invited by a divine summons. These they immediately began to teach, and they rapidly instructed the western sector as they had the eastern:

58:4 Յայնժամ գային հասանէին ի բազում նախարարաց կոչնականք զմեծէն Սահակայ, զի ի մէջ նոցա անցեալ` ի միաբանութիւն հաւաքեսցէ զամենեսեան:
| 58:4 Then many of the princes arrived at the invitation of Sahak the Great so that he might come between them and bring them all into unity:

58:5 Քանզի գիտացեալ արքային Պարսից Վռամայ, եթէ առանց նախարարացն Հայոց ոչ մարթի ունել զաշխարհս` հաշտութիւն խաւսի ի ձեռն Սմբատայ ասպետի:
| 58:5 The king of Persia, Vṙam, knowing that without the Armenian princes he could not hold the country, had proposed a treaty through Smbat the aspet:

58:6 Վասն որոյ թողու զՄեսրոպ ի վերայ վարդապետութեան կողմանն արեւմտից, եւ առ նմա զթոռունսն իւր զՀմայեակ եւ զՀամազասպեան, զեղբարսն Վարդանայ ստրատելատի:
| 58:6 Therefore he Sahak left Mesrop in charge of the instruction of the western region and entrusted to him his grandsons Hmayeak and Hamazaspean, the brothers of Vardan the general:

58:7 Հրամայէ քննել զժանդագործ բորբորիտոնսն, եւ եթէ ոչ հեզութեամբ եւ ոչ սաստիւ գայցեն յուղղութիւն` չարչարանաւք հալածել. զի որպէս թշնամիք ի թշնամեաց վրէժ առնուցուն, եւ խայտառակեսցի իրաւացի մահուամբ անիրաւ մահ հոգւոց:
| 58:7 He ordered them to examine the pestilential Borborites, and if they would not come to orthodoxy by persuasion without force, to persecute them with tortures, that they might exact vengeance like enemies from enemies and by a just death the unjust death of souls might be put to shame:

58:8 Եւ ինքն եկեալ անցանէ յԱյրարատեան գաւառն. կուտեալ զամենայն նախարարազունսն` առաքէ զՍմբատ ասպետ եւ զՎարդան ստրատելատ զթոռն իւր ի դուռն արքային Պարսից:
| 58:8 He himself crossed over to the province of Ayrarat, and bringing together all the nobility he sent Smbat the aspet and Vardan the general, his grandson, to the court of the Persian king:

58:9 Եւ նորա հաստատեալ զհաշտութիւնն` մուրհակ մոռացման յանցանաց կնքէ, ըստ խնդրոյ նոցա թագաւոր կացուցանելով զԱրտաշէս որդի Վռամշապհոյ. եւ փոխեալ զանունն, Արտաշիր կոչելով` զաշխարհս հայոց ի նա հաւատայ առանց պարսիկ վերակացուի. որ տիրեաց ամս վեց:
| 58:9 The latter confirmed the treaty, sealed an edict of amnesty for crimes, and at their request made Artashēs, Vṙamshapuh’s son, king. Changing his name to Artashir, he entrusted the land of Armenia to him without a Persian governor. He reigned for six years:
