| 4:0 How the kingdom of the Assyrians reached in succession as far as Cyrus the Persian:

4:1 Բնաբանաբար իսկ հետեւեալ մեր կարգի ազգաբանութեանս որ վասն առաջի կացելոցս մեզ փութոյ Ասորեստանեայց թագաւորութեանն, զոր պայազատեաց առաջին Զամեսոս, որ Նինուաս, որդի Նինեայ եւ Շամիրամայ, ի [ԾԳ] ամի կենաց Աբրահամու նահապետի, տիրեալ ամենայն Ասիաստանի եւ Հայոց:
| 4:1 We continue our text with the order of the genealogy of the kingdom of the Assyrians that we carefully set out above. Its founder was Zamesos, also [called] Ninuas, son of Ninos and Semiramis, in the fifty- third year of the life of the patriarch Abraham; he ruled over all Asia and Armenia:

4:2 Որ եւ յետ մահուանն Զրադաշտին դարձեալ միապետեաց ամենայն արեւելեաց Պարսից ի հարկի հնազանդութեան ունելով, խաղաղասէր կենօք ամս [ԼԸ] եւ յետ նորա Արիաս որդի իւր որ եւ չորրորդ ի Նինեայ՝ ամս [Լ]. այլ եւ ամենայն թագաւորք Ասորեստանեայց որդի ի հօրէ առեալ զիշխանութիւն ունէին, ոչինչ արժանի յիշատակի ուրուք գործեալ. եւ ոչ ոք ի նոցանէ նուազագոյն քան [Զ]–ի ամ կալաւ զիշխանութիւն. զի անպատերազմասէր եւ խաղաղասէր բարք նոցա յամուր զգուշութեան պահէր զնոսա. քանզի ի ներքս նստելոյ յարքունիս՝ ոչ ոք տեսանէր զնոսա, բայց թէ հարճք եւ արք կանացիք:
| 4:2 After the death of Zradasht he then exercised sole rule over all eastern Persia and subjected it to tax, [ruling] with peaceful life for thirty- eight years. After him Arias his son, the fourth from Ninos, [ruled] for thirty years. All the kings of Assyria held power in succession from father to son; but none of them did anything worthy of record, and none of them held power for less than twenty years. For their unwarlike and peace- loving character kept them in security. Since they sat inside the palace, no one saw them except concubines and eunuchs:

4:3 Եւ արդ են մի ըստ միոջէ թագաւորք Ասորեստանեայց այսոքիկ, զորոց զանուանս եւ զժամանակս գլխաւորելով նշանակեցից փոքր ինչ որ եւ առ նոքիմբք եղեն:
| 4:3 Now the kings of Assyria in succession are the following. I shall indicate in resume their names and times and a little of what happened in their reigns:

4:4 Նինոս որդի Արբէելայ ի ցեղէն Քամայ ամս [ԾԲ]. սա վերստին կանգնեաց զթագաւորութիւնն Նեբրոդայ, որ ասաց զինքն Բէլ:
| 4:4 Ninos, son of Arbel, of the tribe of Ham [reigned] fifty- two years. He restored the kingdom of Nebrot and called himself Bel:

4:5 Շամիրամ կին նորա ամս [ԽԲ]. սա ելեալ ի Հայս պատերազմաւ արար ընդ իւրով ձեռամբ. սա դարձեալ միապետեաց զՊարսս. յերրորդ ամին եղեւ որդի աւետեաց Աբրահամու Իսահակ. ի վերջին ամի սորա եղեն Եսաւ եւ Յակոբ, որ կոչին երկու նահապետք… ի վերջին ամի սորա տիրեն Եգիպտացւոց հովիւքն…:
5 Ի սորա [ԻԵ] ամին Թէսաղացւոց առաջին թագաւորեաց Բէղղոքոս ամս [ԼԵ]. ի սորա [ԼԵ] ամին համբաւեալ ջրհեղեղն Ովգէգայ:
| 4:5 Semiramis his wife [reigned] forty- two years. Coming to Armenia in war she subjected it; and on her return she exercised sole rule over Persia. In her third year Isaac was born, son of the promise to Abraham. In her last year Esau and Jacob were born, called two patriarchs. ... in his last year the Shepherds ruled over Egypt. ...
5 In his twenty- fifth year the first Belochos became king of the Thessalians [and ruled] for thirty- five years. In his thirty- fifth year the flood of Ogeges is reported:

4:6 Բաղէոս ամս [ԾԲ]. ի սորա [ԽԳ] ամին վախճանեալ Յակոբ մարգարէանայ վասն հեթանոսաց կոչմանն:
| 4:6 Baleos [reigned] for fifty- two years. In his forty- third year died Jacob, who predicted the calling of the Gentiles:

4:7 Ազտադաս, ամս [ԼԲ]. առ սովաւ Պրոմիթէս այր իմաստուն երեւեցաւ:
| 4:7 Aztadas [reigned] for thirty- two years. In his time appeared Prometheus, a wise man:

4:8 Մամիզոս ամս [Լ]. ի [ԺԴ] ամի սորա վախճանի Յովսէփ:
| 4:8 Mamizos [reigned] for thirty years. In his fourteenth year Joseph died:

4:9 Մաքաղիս ամս [Լ]. առ սովաւ Ատղաս աստեղագէտ երեւեցաւ:
| 4:9 Mak’ałis [reigned] for thirty years. In his time appeared Atlas, an astronomer:

4:10 Զփերոս, ամս [Ի]. ի սորա [ԺԸ] ամին ծնանի Մովսէս մարգարէ:
| 4:10 Zpheros [reigned] for twenty years. In his eighteenth year the prophet Moses was born:

4:11 Մամիզոս միւս՝ ամս [Լ]. առ սովաւ այլ թագաւոր եկաց ի Թեսաղեայ:
| 4:11 Another Mamizos [reigned] for thirty years. In his time there was another king in Thessaly:

4:12 Սպարեթոս ամս [Խ]. ի սորա [Ժ] ամին գնացեալ Մովսէս յԵգիպտոսէ առաքինանայր յանապատին:
| 4:12 Sparet’os [reigned] for forty years. In his tenth year Moses went from Egypt and laboured virtuously in the desert:

4:13 Ասկատադէս ամս [Խ]. ի սորա [Ը] ամին եղեւ Մովսէս առաջնորդ եւ օրինադիր Հրէից:
| 4:13 Askatadēs [reigned] for forty years. In his eighth year Moses became the leader and legislator of the Jews:

4:14 Ամինէս ամս [ԽԵ]. ի սորա [Ը]ամին Մովսէս մարգարէ վախճանի:
| 4:14 Aminēs [reigned] for forty- five years. In his eighth year the prophet Moses died:

4:15 Լինի յԱդամայ մինչեւ յամս այս [ՎԶԼ], ըստ Եօթանասնիցն թարգմանութեանն:
| 4:15 There were from Adam until this year [3,730] [years] according to the translation of the Septuagint:

4:16 Բէղոքոս ամս [ԻԵ]. առ սովաւ այլ բազում թագաւորք կացին ի տեղիս տեղիս:
| 4:16 Bełok’os [reigned] for twenty- five years. In his time there were many kings in various places:

4:17 Բաղեպարէս ամս [Լ]. առ սովաւ եւ Արգիացւոց թագաւոր նստաւ:
| 4:17 Bałeparēs [reigned] for thirty years. In his time there reigned a king of the Argives:
|
4:18 Ղամրիթէս ամս [ԼԲ]. առ սովաւ Պիգասոսն երեւեցաւ, զոր համբաւեն ձի թեւաւոր էր:
| 4:18 Lamprites [reigned] for thirty- two years. In his time Pegasus flourished, who is reported to have been a winged horse:

4:19 Զովսարէս ամս [Ի]. առ սովաւ Դիոնեսեայ զօրաժողովն ի վերայ Հնդկաց:
| 4:19 Zovsares [reigned] for twenty years. In his time [occurred] the expedition of Dionysius against India:
|
4:20 Ղամպերէս ամս [Լ]. առ սովաւ թագաւորք բազումք կացին ի տեղիս տեղիս:
| 4:20 Lamperes [reigned] for thirty years. In his time there were many kings in various places:
|
4:21 Պաննիաս ամս [ԽԵ]. առ սովաւ Տիւրոս քաղաք շինեցաւ:
| 4:21 Panias [reigned] for forty- five years. In his time the city of Tyre was built:
|
4:22 Սովսարմոս ամս [ԺԵ]. ի սորա [Ը] ամին Հերակղեայ նահատակութիւնքն եղեն:
| 4:22 Sovsarmos [reigned] for fifteen years. In his eighth year took place the labours of Hercules:
|
4:23 Միթրէոս [ԻԵ] ամս:
| 4:23 Mit’rēos [reigned] for twenty- seven years:
|
4:24 Մաւտանէս ամս [ԼԱ]. ի սորա [ԻԵ] ամին առաւ Ելիոն քաղաք ի յԱթենացւոց անտի, եւ Սամփսոնի եղեն իրքն առ սովաւ:
| 4:24 Mawtanēs [reigned] for thirty- one years. In his twenty- fifth year the city of Ilium was captured by the Athenians; and in his time the exploits of Samson were performed:

| 4:26 Ot’ineus [reigned] for thirty years:

4:27 Դերկիւղոս ամս… առ այսու ժամանակաւ Դաւիթ թագաւորեաց յԵրուսաղէմ. եւ թագաւորութիւնն Ասորեստանեայց նուաղեալ՝ բռնակալք ոմանք կացին ի նոցանէ ի կողմանս Դամասկոսի:
| 4:27 Derkiwlos [reigned] for . . . years. At that time David reigned in Jerusalem, and the kingdom of the Assyrians declined.
Some of them remained as tyrants in the regions of Damascus:

4:33 Թովնոս Կոնկողեռոս, որ կոչի Յունարէն Սարդանապաղոս՝ ամս [Խ]. սա անառակութեամբ զեղծ եւ ապական յիրս թագաւորութեանն եղեալ, որով տաղտկացեալ ի նմանէ բազմութիւն զօրացն՝ արարին լինել նմա պատերազմակուր ի Վարբակայ եւ ի Բէղոսէ Մարաց զօրագլխէ, մինչեւ անձամբ անձին արարեալ ի հուր սատակի:
| 4:33 Tovnos Konkołeṙos, called in Greek Sardanapalos, [reigned] for forty years. In his debauchery he was dissolute and corrupt in the affairs of his kingdom. Therefore, many of his troops became wearied of him and caused him to be defeated in battle by Varbakes and Bēlos, the general of the Medes; as a result he immolated himself on a fire:

4:34 Եւ են ժամանակք թագաւորութեանն Ասորեստանեայց ի Բէլայ եւ Նինեայ ամք [ՌՅ]. եւ Վարբակայ Մարի բարձեալ զիշխանութիւնն Ասորեստանեայց՝ զՊարոյր Հայկազնեաց ապահարկէ ի հարկաբարձութենէ եւ թագապատիւ իշխանութեամբ մեծարեալ՝ տայ զօր բազում յօգնականութիւն, եւ դարձեալ հաստատէ զթագաւորութիւնն Հայոց. եւ զԲէղէսիոս՝ իշխան Բաբելոնի կացուցեալ, ինքն զարքունիսն յայնմ հետէ ի Մարս փոփոխէ:
| 4:34 The duration of the kingdom of the Assyrians from Bel and Ninos had been [1,300] years. Varbakes the Mede destroyed the empire of the Assyrians; he exempted Paroyr Haykazn from paying taxes, honoured him with the authority of king, gave him many troops in support, and re- established the kingdom of Armenia; he also appointed Belesios ruler of Babylon. Then he himself transferred the palace to Media:

4:35 որ ձգեցաւ մինչեւ յամս [ՄԾԹ]. եւ ըստ ոմանց այլ նախկին թագաւորս ասելով՝ յաւելուն ժամանակս ամաց [ՄՂԸ] ասել:
| 4:35 It lasted for [259] years; but according to some who include other earlier kings, the period extends to [298] years:

4:36 Եւ առ այսոքիւք պատեհագոյնս իմն գտեալ իբրեւ յանիշխանութեան՝ ոմանք Ասորեստանեայք եւ Քաղդէացիք, յազգէ թագաւորացն որ յառաջագոյն՝ հատուածեալք ի կողմանս Դամասկոսի եւ Նինուէի, զօր բազում գումարեալ՝ յետ [ԻԸ] ամի անիշխանութեան Ասորեստանեայց ի ձեռն Փուայ թագաւորեցելոյ դարձեալ տիրեն Բաբելոնի եւ ստորին Ասորւոց, որ կոչի Խուժաստան, նորոգեն եւ զառաջին արքունիսն լքեալս ի Բէլայ, որ է տուն Աստորովայ:
| 4:36 In the time of those [kings] some Assyrians and Chaldaeans descended from the earlier kings found it appropriate, as a period of anarchy, to emigrate and assemble a numerous army in the regions of Damascus and Nineveh. After twenty- eight years of anarchy in Asorestan, under King P’uay they again ruled over Babylon and lower Assyria, called Khuzhastan; they restored the former palace abandoned by Bel, which is the house of Astorov:

4:37 եւ բռնութեամբ Մարապարսացւոցն ոչ կարացեալ ընդդիմանալ՝ ի կողմանս Պաղեստինացւոց ելեալ պատերազմաւ պաշարեն զՍամարիա, եւ զի թագաւորութիւնն Եբրայեցւոց յերկուս հակառակս բաժանեալ էր՝ հնազանդ իւր արարեալ Փուայ Ասորեստանւոյ առնու հարկս ի Մանասէէ արքայէ հազար տաղանդ արծաթոյ: Եւ յայնմհետէ վտանգի Իսրայէլ յԱսորեստանեայց: Եւ յետ նորա թագաւորէ Ասորեստանեայց Թագղաթփաղասար:
| 4:37 Unable to oppose the Medes and Persians, they debouched in war into the regions of Palestine and besieged Samaria. And because the kingdom of the Hebrews was divided into two opposing [factions], P’uay, having subjected Assyria, imposed on king Manasses tribute of a thousand silver talents. From then on Israel was endangered by the Assyrians. After him there reigned over the Assyrians T’aglat’p’ałasar:

4:38 սա ել ի վերայ Հրէաստանի եւ զմեծ մասն ժողովրդեանն գերեաց յԱսորեստան. . . . . . Սաղմանասար. սա իսպառ գերեաց զտասն. . . . . . . ցուցանելով ի լերինս Մարաց եւ եբարձ զթագաւորութիւնն. . . . . . որ եւ տեւեաց ամս [ՄԾ]: Յետ նորա թագաւորէ եղբայր Սենեքէրիմայ . . . . . . . [ապէս] մեռանի ի Մարութաք բաղդան, իբրեւ. . . . . . . ունէր զվեց ամիս, սպանաւ եւ նա ի միոջէ ումեմնէ, որում անուն էր Ներեղիբդ եւ թագաւոր էր:
| 4:38 The latter came out against Judaea and took captive to Assyria the majority of the people . . . Salmana he took captive ten . . . showing in the mountain of Media. And he destroyed the kingdom . . . which had lasted [250] years. After him the brother of Senek’erim reigned . . . was killed by Marut’ak’ Bałdan; when ... he had six months, he also was killed by someone who was called Nerełibd and who was a king:

4:39 եւ յերրորդ ամի թագաւորութեան նորա, Սենեքերիմոս զօրս բազումս գումարէր ի վերայ նորա, եւ ձերբակալ արարեալ զնա հանդերձ իւրովք բարեկամօքն՝ Բաբելոնի կացուցանէր զորդի իւր զԱսորդանիս, եւ ինքն գնացեալ ի Միջագետս՝ հնազանդեցուցանէր ինքեան քաջութեամբ զԵմաթ եւ զԱրբաթ եւ զամենայն կողմանս Դամասկոսի եւ Կիւլիկեայ եւ զայլ բազումս:
| 4:39 In the third year of his reign, Senek’erim gathered a numerous army against him, captured him with his allies, and established his own son Asordanis in Babylon. He himself went to Mesopotamia and valiantly subjected Emat’ and Arbat’ and all the regions of Damascus and Cilicia and many other:

4:40 Եւ յետ այսոցիկ ել ի վերայ երկրին Պաղեստինացւոց եւ Երուսաղէմի՝ պաշարել զնա. եւ հրամանէ Աստուծոյ սատակեցան զօրք նորա. եւ նա դարձաւ ի Նինուէ. եւ նենգ գործեալ նմա, վասն նախանձու թագաւորեցելոյ Ասորդանի, երկու եւս որդիք նորա Ադրամելէք եւ Սանասար՝ սպանին զնա սրով, որ թագաւորեաց ամս [ԺԸ], եւ ինքեանք գնացին յարեւելս հիւսիսոյ որպէս ասացաւ ի վեր անդ:
| 4:40 After that he attacked the land of Palestine and Jerusalem in order to blockade it. By God’s command his army was destroyed and he returned to Nineveh. His two other sons Adramelēk’ and Sanasar plotted against him out of envy for Asordani being king; they killed him with the sword. He had reigned for eighteen years. Then they themselves went to the Northeast, as was said above:

| 4:56 In his sixth year he was deposed by Cyrus. After falling [from power] he lived on until the kingdom of the Assyrians and Medes was completely destroyed by Cyrus, who ruled:
