7:1 Բայց ի գնալն Խուրենայ առ Տիբէր կայսր՝ եթող զորդին իւր զՎաչէ եւ զեղբայր իւր զԱրշաւիր ի Խառան առ տիկնոջն Հեղինէի. որ ապա ի գնալն տիկնոջն յԵրուսաղէմ՝ Վաչէ եւ Արշաւիր երկեան երթալ առ Սանատրուկ, գնացին առ Ներսէհ արքայ Ասորւոց, ընդ իւրեանս առնելով զգիր ուխտի խաղաղութեան Աբգարու եւ Ներսէհի եւ զԽուրենէ Արծրունւոյ:
| 7:1 When Khuran went to Tiberius Caesar he left his son Vach’ē and his brother Arshavir at Harran with Queen Helena. Then, when the queen went to Jerusalem, Vach’ē and Arshavir, being afraid to go to Sanatruk, went to Nerseh king of Syria, taking with them the written treaty of peace between Abgar and Nerseh and Khuran Artsruni:

7:2 զոր կարգէ զնոսա Ներսէհ ի վերակացութիւն գործակալութեան, զՎաչէ կացոյց ի դրան արքունի, զի ամենայն ոք նովաւ մտցէ եւ ելցէ յարքունիսն, եւ նովաւ վճարիցեն զի՛նչ պէտ եւ լինիցին ումեք ի մեծամեծաց մինչ ի փոքունս նոցա. եւ զԱրշաւիր ի գործ պատերազմի զօրագլուխ զօրուն կարգեաց:
| 7:2 Nerseh appointed them to the oversight of the government: Vach’ē he established at the royal court, so that via him everyone would have to enter or leave the palace and through him conduct whatever business they needed— from the greatest to the least; and Arshavir he appointed as commander of the army for war:

7:3 Ընդ որս զչարեալ նախարարացն Ներսէհի՝ գրգռեն զոմն ի մերձաւորաց Ներսէհի, Դարէհ անուն. որ մատուցեալ առ Ներսէհ ասէ, «ընդէ՞ր այսպէս հաճեցար առնել, զի՞ կացուցեր զարսդ զայդ ի գործակալութիւն աշխարհի քո, եւ ահա դոքա են յորդւոց ազգի Սենեքէրիմայ ի Նինուէ, եւ ունին զզօրս քո ընդ իւրեանս, գուցէ կատարիցեն չարիս ի վերայ քո, եւ կորզեն յընքեանս զթագաւորութիւն Նինուէի:
| 7:3 But Nerseh’s nobles took offence at them and induced one of Nerseh’s relatives, Dareh by name, to approach Nerseh and say: “ Why were you pleased to act thus, to appoint these men to run your country? Behold, they are descended from the family of Senek’erim in Nineveh; they [now] command your army along with their own. They may perhaps inflict harm on you and snatch the kingdom of Nineveh for themselves:

7:4 Զի ահա բարեկամացեալ էր Խուրան հայր Վաչէի եւ եղբայր Արշաւրի ընդ Արտաշէսի Պարսից արքայի յերթալն Աբգարու ի Պարս, եւ եդեալ են դաշինս ի միջի:
| 7:4 For Khuran, the father of Vach’ē and brother of Arshavir, had become friendly with Artashēs the king of Persia when Abgar went to Persia and they made a mutual treaty:

7:5 գուցէ յորժամ կատարիցեն զչարիսն զոր խորհեալ են ի վերայ քո, որպէս լուաք ի հաւատարմաց իւրեանց՝ օժանդակութեամբ Արտաշէսի մերժիցեն եւ զզարմ եւ զզաւակ քո ի թագաւորութենէ Ասորոց: Կամ դարձո՛ զխորհեալ նոցա չարիս ի գլուխս իւրեանց, կամ թող զի ելցեն գնասցեն՝ յով եւ կամեսցին:
| 7:5 Perhaps, when they accomplish the evil deeds that they have plotted against you, as we have heard from their confidants, with the help of Artashēs they may depose your family and descendants from the throne of Syria. Either make their evil plots redound on their own heads, or let them go away whither they may desire:

7:6 Իսկ Ներսէհ ունկնդիր եղեալ Դարէհի, բայց ոչ կարաց հաւատարմացուցանել զասացեալսն. այլ վասն բանսարկուացն ելեալ Վաչէ եւ Արշաւիր գնացին առ Արտաշէս արքայ Պարսից, եւ կացին մնացեալ անդր մինչեւ ի դարձն Արտաշէսի որդւոյ Սանատրկոյ, որ եկեալ այսր թագաւորեաց, սպանեալ զԵրուանդ:
| 7:6 Nerseh was attentive to Dareh, but he was unable to prove his allegations. However, because of these slanderers Vach’ē and Arshavir went to Artashēs king of Persia and remained there until the return of Artashēs, son of Sanatruk, who came here and reigned as king after killing Eruand:

7:7 Իսկ Սահակ որդի Վաչէի խոյս տուեալ գնայ ընդ կողմամբքն Մարաց, ընդ կողմն Ատրպատականի, եւ բնակէ առ զօրավարի ումեմն եւ մոգի Պերոզ Վրամ կոչեալ: Իսկ Սմբատ առեալ զԱրտաշէս բնակէ ի Զարաւանդ Ատրպատականի, եւ գրէ առ Սահակ դառնալ առ Երուանդ. թերեւս հնար լիցի խորհել ինչ վասն Երուանդայ:
| 7:7 Now Sahak, Vach’ē’s son, had gone in flight by the regions of Media to Atrpatakan, and was residing with a certain general and magus called Peroz- Vram. Smbat, taking Artashēs, was residing at Zaravand in Atrpatakan; he wrote to Sahak [asking him] to return to Eruand so that perhaps there might be a way to make some plan concerning Eruand:

7:8 Նորա ունկնդիր եղեալ գայ առանց յապաղանաց, եւ առաջի դնէ Երուանդայ զպատճառս փախստեանն, ասէ՝ զի դայեկաբար զորդիսն Սանատրկոյ սնուցանէաք, եւ դու ի թագաւորելդ քո որոյ երդմունս արարեալ յԱրտեմի եւ յԱրամազդ անկասկած կալ մնալ վասն որոյ երկիւղն առնէր: Եւ զհետ մտեալ Երուանդայ խոյզ եւ խնդիր լինել Արտաշէսի. իսկ Սմբատ առեալ զԱրտաշէս գայ բնակէ ի բարձրաւանդակ լերինն Վարագ:
| 7:8 He obediently went without delay, and explaining to Eruand the reasons for his flight said: “ We brought up the sons of Sanatruk as foster parents; and you swore by Artemis and Aramazd that when you were king [we] should have no grounds for fear.” But Eruand continued his search for Artashēs. So Smbat took Artashēs and went to settle on the high mountain of Varag:

7:9 Իսկ Երուանդայ հետազօտեալ գայ բնակի առ ստորոտով լերինն ի գլուխս Տոսպ գաւառի, եւ կոչէ զտեղին Երուանդականս. եւ Սահակայ յղեալ առ Սմբատ՝ մի կալ մնալ ի լերինն, այլ փութալ ելանել դառնալ անդրէն ի հետեւի զօրս անդ. զի ոչ ելանէ, ասէ, Երուանդ զօրու ի սահմանս Մարաց. եւ տայր տանել զպէտս մանկանն օր ըստ օրէ: Զայս զգացեալ Երուանդայ՝ ետ տանել զՍահակ կապանօք յԱրմաւիր. անդ կեցեալ եւ մեռեալ ի նմին ի կապանս:
| 7:9 while Eruand in pursuit encamped at the foot of the mountain at the head of the province of Tosp, and called the spot Eruandakank’. Sahak sent word to Smbat that he should not remain on the mountain but make haste to return to Her and Zarevand. “ For,” he said, “ Eruand will not advance with his army across the border of Media.” And he had the child’s needs taken to him day by day. When Eruand became aware of this he had Sahak taken in bonds to Armavir. There he remained in prison until he died:

7:10 Իսկ Աշոտ եղբայր Վաչէի քանզի էր մանկագոյն տիովք՝ առեալ դայեկին իւրոյ մատուցանէ առաջի Երուանդայ, զի ոչ կարաց զերծանել գնալ յով եւ կամիցի, գուցէ, ասէ, ի գնալն ի բուռն առեալ ի մահ դատապարտեսցի: Իսկ Երուանդ պահեալ զերդումն հօրն նորա՝ թողացուցանէ երթալ բնակել եւ կեալ ուր եւ հաճոյ թուիցի. եւ նորա առեալ տանի զնա ի լեառնն Սիմ, ի տեղի հայրենեաց բնակութեան աշխարհին Տարունոյ:
| 7:10 Then Ashot, Vach’ē’s brother, since he was very young in years, was taken by his tutor and brought before Eruand. He had been unable to escape and go whither he might wish, he said, lest perchance on his way he be siezed and condemned to death. But Eruand kept the oath to his father and allowed him to go and settle and live wherever he might please. So [his tutor] brought him to the mountain Sim, to the place where his ancestor had dwelt in the land of Tarōn:

7:11 Նոյն ժամայն առեալ Սմբատայ զԱրտաշէս գայ անցանէ ի վայր ի լեռնէն. եւ թափառական զվէմս ապաստան արարեալ յանկասկածագոյն տեղիս դարանի ի փոքր վիմամէջս ի կարկառս հովտաձեւս հանդէպ հարաւոյ քաղաքաբերդին Վանի, մօտ յայն տեղի, յորում բղխէ աղբիւրաբար առ ստորոտով բլրակի միոյ, մօտ յեզր ծովուն, յորմէ շնչէ օդք բարեխառն, զովացուցանէ զտապ խորշակի ամարայնոյ՝ յարեգակնակէզն լինելոյ. եւ անդէն կացեալ զաւուրս բազումս յապահովացեալ ի կասկածանաց երկիւղէ Երուանդայ:
| 7:11 At the same time Smbat took Artashēs and came down from the mountain. Among the rocks he made a refuge in a most unsuspected spot, a hiding place in a small cavern in a rocky hollow, opposite the southern side of the fortress of Van, near the place where a spring gushes out at the foot of a small hill. It was near the edge of the lake from which temperate breezes blow, freshening the parching heat of the summer caused by the sun’s heat. There they stopped for many days in safety from distrust and fear of Eruand:

7:12 Քանզի ոչ կարացեալ իմանալ զդէմ փախստէի Արտաշէսի, եւ այն ի տեսչութենէ Աստուծոյ այնպէս պահեալ լինէր, դառնայ Երուանդ առ սահմանօքն Ատրպատականի ի ձորն Անձահից: Իսկ Անձահից ձոր վասն այսր կոչեցին. բազում ունելով ինչս ի կոխակս բարձրաւանդակս եւ ի կիրճս նրբականս, ի զերծս եւ ի խոխոմս ձորոյն ի թոխ եւ ի բոխ երկրին անբնակ մարդկան յասպատակէ հինիցն Երուանդայ, եւ երթայ զետեղի ի Նախճաւանն աւանի յոստանին Վասպուրական աշխարհին:
| 7:12 For he was unable to discover the fugitive Artashēs. Since the latter was preserved in this way by God’s providence, Eruand returned by the borders of Atrpatakan to the valley of Andzahk’. Now the valley of Andzahk’ is so called for the reason that it contains many treasures in its jagged heights, its narrow defiles, in the safe fastnesses of the valley, in the chaos of the land that is uninhabited by men and free from the attacks of Eruand’s brigands. So, he came and stopped in the town of Nakhchavan, the capital of the land of Vaspurakan:

7:13 Յայնմ հետէ ի տարակոյս անկեալ Երուանդ՝ ոչ քաղցրանայր նմա քուն գիշերոյ, եւ ոչ համեղանայր կերակուր ի քիմս նորա: Յետ այսր առեալ Սմբատայ զԱրտաշէս ըստ ձեւոյ տառապելոյ միոյ, որ շրջիցի խնդրիցէ օր ըստ օրէ զբաւականութիւն աւուրն՝ երթեալ տուայտի ի դրան Մարաց Դարեհի, մինչ զգալ նորա Երուանդայ. եւ գրէ առ Սմբատ, թերեւս տացէ ի ձեռն նորա զմանուկն Արտաշէս:
| 7:13 Thenceforth Eruand was thrown into doubt; sleep did not calm him at night, nor food delight his palate. Then Smbat took Artashēs in the guise of a wretch who goes around begging his daily sustenance, and came in his woe to the court of Dareh [king of] the Medes. When Eruand eventually heard of this, he wrote to Smbat in the hope that he might deliver up the young Artashēs:

7:14 Եւ յարբունս հասելոյ Արտաշէսի՝ երթայ գնայ առ Արտաշէս Պարսից արքայն, եւ անդ բազում իրս քաջութեան ցուցեալ յախոյեանարձակ պատերազմունսն, եւ մեծարի յԱրտաշէսէ Պարսից արքայէ, մինչ ձեռնտու լինի նա զօրու օգնականութեամբ, եւ թագաւորեցուցանէ զնա ի վերայ Հայոց փոխանակ հօր իւրոյ Սանատրկոյ, ի տեղի թագաւորութեան քաջացն Արշակունեաց:
| 7:14 When Artashēs attained maturity he went to the Persian king Artashēs; and demonstrating there many deeds of valour in heroic combats, he was honoured by Artashēs the Persian king to the extent that he supported him with the aid of an army and made him king over Armenia in succession to his father Sanatruk in the royal capital of the valiant Arsacids:

7:15 Ապա դարձան Վաչէ եւ Արշաւիր ընդ Արտաշէսի, առեալ զթագաւորութիւնն Երուանդայ ի [ԼԱ] ամի Արտաշէսի արքայից արքայի եւ թագաւորին Յունաց […] ամի. եւ դարձոյց ի նոսա զաշխարհն զոր տուեալ էր ի ժառանգութիւն Տիգրանայ Հայկազնոյ, զոր կալեալ էր Սանատրկոյ յարքունիս, զլեառնն Սիմ եւ զԱղձնիս մինչ ի սահմանս Ասորեստանի:
| 7:15 Vach’ē and Arshavir then returned with Artashēs, who had taken Eruand’s kingdom in the thirty- first year of Artashēs, king of kings, and in the . . . year of the Greek emperor. . .. He returned to them the land which Tigran Haykazn had given in inheritance [to their family], but which Sanatruk had confiscated to the court: the mountain of Sim and Ałdznik’ as far as the borders of Asorestan:
