12:0 Յայտարարութիւն կերպագրութեան անձին եւ փառաց մեծի արքային Հայոց Գագկայ:

12:1 Եւ քանզի նախածանօթ եւ յառաջգիտութեամբ Աստուծոյ, գիտելով զնա թէ այնպէս լինելոց է, անդստին յորովայնէ մօր իւրոյ ելից զնա իմաստութեամբ հոգւովն:
| 12:1 Since in his foreknowledge and providence God knew that he would become such a man, from his mother’s womb he had filled him with the spirit of wisdom:

12:2 Վասն որոյ եւ շնորհեաց նմա պատկեր լուսազարդ եւ հասակ փառաց անհամեմատ ի մէջ ամենայն մսեղեաց բանական ազգի. հարթ եւ ուղիղ, վայելուչ եւ պայծառ երեսօք. հեր գլխոյ նորա թխակերպ, գանգուրագեղ գիսաւորութեամբ ուղեբեկ ջոկացեալ ի վերայ սպետափառ ճակատուն յոյժ խուռնախիտ թանձրութեամբ. մրազարդ կամարաձեւ կցուացք յունիցն, եւ բիբք եւ արտեւանունք հանդերձ պտղովք վկայեալք, իբրեւ զշուշան ի հովիտս ծաղկեալ ծաւալին հրաշազարդ յօրինմամբ:
| 12:2 Therefore, he also bestowed on him a luminous visage and glorious stature, unparalleled among the entire rational race of mankind. [He was] elegant and upright, noble and splendid of face. The hair of his head was dark, long, and curly, carefully arranged above a dazzling white forehead in very thick and dense waves. He had two black arched eyebrows, pupils, and eyelids that shaded the eyes like a lily flowering in valleys, spreading in wonderful fashion:

12:3 Ունչք երկայնագոյնք եւ վայելչաւորք, լսելիք դիւրալուրք եւ դիւրահաւանք ի բարիս եւ պայծառք լուսահրաշ նմանեալ գունով:
| 12:3 His nose was wide and elegant; his ears, quick to hear and believe good news, shone with a luminous colour:

12:4 Շրթունք նորա իբրեւ զլար կարմիր, ատամունք նորա հուպ առ միմեանս, զտեալք յաղտոյ:
| 12:4 His lips were like a red line; his teeth were close to each other and free from stain:
|
12:5 Տէգք մորուաց նորա զօրէն մանուշակի ծաղկեալք ի վերայ գունագեղ այտից՝ ի կերպս զուարթնոց տեսողացն զնա ցուցանէր:
| 12:5 His fresh beard flowered like violets on beautiful cheeks, giving him the appearance to onlookers of angelic form:

12:6 Եւ յիրաւի այսպիսիք նմա շնորհազարդ փառաց պարգեւք ի վերուստ. վասն զի նա ըստ նմանութեանն Յովսիայ թագաւորեալ նորոյ Իսրայէլի՝ վերագոյն քան զնա լրացոյց զկարգս եկեղեցւոյ սրբոյ:
| 12:6 Truly such gifts of grace and glory [were given] him from on High.
For he reigned like Josiah over a new Israel, but [in a way] superior to him perfected the institutions of the holy church:

12:7 Ուստի եւ յոյժ սիրելի էր ինձ յայսմ ժամանակի առնուլ ի հնդկայինն աշխարհէ եւ ի Տպազ քաղաքէ, մանաւանդ թէ ի քարկոփչացն, եւ յԱղէբասարացւոց եւ Թէբէացւոց վաճառուց զոսկետեսակն տպազիովն, եւ շարամանել ի թագի նորա յաւուրս թագի զբօսանաց, մանաւանդ յորժամ ի փրկական պասեք տէրունական տօնիցն իբրեւ զփեսայ յառագաստէ ծագիւր ըստ նմանութեանն արուսեկին:
| 12:7 Thus it is very pleasing to me at this point to take ( examples) from the land of India and the city of Topaz; especially the golden topaz from the commerce of the gem cutters and the Ałēbasarats’ik’ and Thebans, and lace it into his crown on the days of royal pleasure; notably when on the Lord’s saving feast of Easter, he arose like a groom from the wedding chamber similar to the morning star:

12:8 ուստի եւ ի գունագոյն ականցն հիւսելոց մարգարտախուռն զարդուցն ի գլուխս եւ ի լանջս եւ ի գաւակս երիվարին խրոխտացելոյ ճաճանչք լուսոյ ճառագայթէին. այլ եւ ի հոսանս հրաձգութեանցն առաջի նորա եւ ի կայթմունս թնդականացն եւ ի հնչմունս փողոցն առ հասարակ դղրդեալ բիւր բիւրոց մարդկան, ամենայն ակն զնա բաղձայր տեսանել, ուստի եւ ամենայն հոգիք աղաղակէին «Տէր, կեցո զթագաւորն եւ լուր մեզ». եւ արդարեւ արժանի էր օծեալն Աստուծոյ եւ բարձրն քան զամենայն թագաւորս երկրի՝ այսպիսի եւ ի վեր քան զսոյնս գովութեանց:
| 12:8 Likewise rays of light shone out from the decoration of coloured gems interwoven with pearls on the head, breast, and croup of his mettlesome steed; and at the outpouring of the fiery brilliance before him, the booming of drums and sounding of trumpets, myriads of people were stirred. Every eye desired to see him, every soul cried out: “ Lord, save the king and hear us.” In truth God’s anointed, superior to all kings of the earth, merited such and even greater praise:

12:9 Վասն զի նա խաղաղութեան եւ շինութեան առիթ:
| 12:9 For he was the cause of peace and prosperity:
|
12:10 Նա աւազակաց խանձող եւ հերքիչ:
| 12:10 He was a firebrand to brigands and repelled them:
|
12:11 Նա իրաւանց եւ դատաստանաց արդարով կշռիչ:
| 12:11 He weighed laws and judgments justly:
|
12:12 Նա ամբարտաւանից բարձրաթռիչ թեւոցն հարթող:
| 12:12 He clipped the wings of the high- flying mighty:
|
12:13 Նա որջացելոց բազմաց ի բարձրաբերձ ամրոցաց ստորիջոյց:
| 12:13 He brought down many holed up in high castles:
|
12:14 Նա ապստամբաց անզերծանելի ծուղակ:
| 12:14 He was an inescapable trap for rebels:
|
12:15 Նա գաղտնի նենգութեանց թշնամեաց նախատեսող եւ կարթ կորզիչ:
| 12:15 He foresaw the secret deceits of enemies, ensnared and destroyed them:
|
12:16 Նա սիրելեաց եւ կամարարաց իւրոց անծախ պարգեւ, այլ եւ անուշահոտ բուրաստան, լի համապայծառ ծաղկովք:
| 12:16 On his friends and supporters [he bestowed] gifts unfailing. He was also a sweet- smelling garden, filled with resplendent flowers:

12:17 Նա տան իւրում կանաչատունկ ոսկեսաղարթ, լի աստուածայորդոր սիրով եւ բերկրաբեր աւետիք:
| 12:17 For his own house he was a verdant plant with golden leaves, full of divinely inspired love, joyous news:
|
12:18 Նա որդւոց իւրոց կրթարան բարեաց եւ մշտաբուղխ աղբիւր իմաստից:
| 12:18 To his sons he was a school of virtue and an ever- flowing source of wisdom:
|
12:19 Նա ամենայն արուեստականաց դռնբաց եւ անվրէպ քանոն:
| 12:19 To all artisans his door was open, and he was an unerring model:
|
12:20 Նա բռնաւորաց սպառնալեաց բքաբեր, եւ ահարկու հողմոցն ընդդիմակաց լեառն բարձր եւ անդրդուելի վէմ:
| 12:20 Against the stormy threats of tyrants and their fearsome winds he was a high mountain and unshakeable rock:
|
12:21 Նա խարդախող եւ կարծեցուցիչ հրովարտակաց եւ պատգամաց այլազգեաց յղելոց առ նա հուր ծախիչ:
| 12:21 He was a consuming fire for the knavish and deceptive letters and messages sent him by the Muslims:
|
12:22 Նա ի սիրտս բռնաւորաց Բաբելացւոց, Մարաց եւ Պարսից, Յունաց եւ բարբարոսաց հրացեալ եւ յարաշարժ բեւեռ:
| 12:22 In the hearts of the Babylonian, Mede, Persian, Greek, and barbarian tyrants he was a burning, perpetually turning nail:

12:23 Նա հարցափորձօղ իմաստնոց խորք ծովու կամ բարձրութիւնք երկնից որ անհասն է:
| 12:23 He questioned wise men about the depths of the sea or the heights of heaven which are inaccessible:
|
12:24 Նա յոսկեզարդ գահոյսն ուրախութեանց բազմեալ նազելի ճոխութեամբ իբրեւ զառիւծ զօրաւոր հաւատովք աճեցեալ ի փառս տեառն:
| 12:24 He sat at banquets on his golden throne, grand in his majesty like a powerful lion, and heightened in the Lord’s glory by his faith:

12:25 Նա ի սենեակս ոսկեզարդս երեկօթիցն քաղցրանինջ քնով ղուղեալ իբրեւ զվիշապ, եւ ահ հզօր զօրութեան նորա շրջապատեալ զբոլոր Հայաստանեօքս՝ իբրեւ զպարիսպ պղնձի անմերձենալի պահէր յերկիւղէ եւ ի գաղտաձիգ նետից թշնամեաց:
| 12:25 He retired for sweet sleep at night to gilded chambers like a dragon. The awe of his might spread over the whole of Armenia; like an impregnable wall of bronze he preserved [Armenia] from fear and from the secretly fired arrows of her enemies:

12:26 Նա ի ի վերայ դրացեաց իւրոց եւ իւրոց հնազանդելոց հովանի ամրապահեստ, եւ արագ:
| 12:26 Over his neighbours and his subjects he was a shade of secure defense, and swift:
