10:1 This bishop Yohan, Parhen’s son, when he went to the kings of Armenia, would entertain them by being a buffoon for them. Through this clowning he exercised the greed for which he had an insatiable appetite, and he used the buffoonery to serve his own ends:
| 10:1 Սոյն Յոհան եպիսկոպոս որդի Փառինայ, յորժամ երթայր առ թագաւորն Հայոց, խաղալովն զանձն իւր կրթէր յագահութեան, որում ծարաւեալ պասքեալ փափաքէր, սակայն միհանէք այն էին նորա:

10:2 He would go on all fours in front of the kings and imitate a camel, making a camel’s bleating sound:
| 10:2 Ի չորք անկեալ յոտս եւ ի ձեռս` սողէր առաջի թագաւորացն, եւ զուղտու զձայն ածէր կառաչելով, զօրէն ուղտու այնպէս փարելով:

10:3 While doing this he would exclaim: “I am a camel, a camel, and I will bear the king’s sins:
| 10:3 Ընդ կառաչելն ապա մի մի բան խառնելով առնէր ի ձայն կառաչելոյն, ասելով` թէ ուղտ եմ, ուղտ եմ, եւ զարքայի զմեղս բառնամ. դիք ի վերայ իմ զմեղս արքայի, թող բառնամ:

10:4 King, load your sins upon me, and I will carry them.” But the kings, instead of giving their sins, would put on Yohan’s back written and sealed deeds for villages or fields:
| 10:4 Իսկ թագաւորքն զմուրհակս գիւղաց կամ զագարակաց գրեալ եւ կնքեալ` դնէին ի վերայ ողինն Յոհաննու փոխանակ ընդ մեղաց իւրեանց. եւ ի թագաւորացն Հայոց ստացաւ իւր գեւղս եւ ագարակս եւ գանձս յուղտն լինելոյ եւ զմեղսն բառնալոյ ըստ բանիցն:

10:5 So, Yohan got villages and fields for imitating a camel, and all the days of his life he did such unworthy deeds because of his greed and avarice:
| 10:5 Այսպիսի էր այրս Յոհանս կապեալ յըռժգութեան եւ յագահութեան զամենայն աւուրս կենաց իւրոց. զայսպիսի գործս գործէր վասն ագահութեան, որ չէր արժան:
