40:0 Concerning Varaz, who was sent by the Iranian king, and who perished at Manuel’s hands, just as his predecessor did:
| 40:0 Յաղագս Վարազայ թէ ո՛րպէս կամ զիա՛րդ առաքեցաւ ի թագաւորէն Պարսից, եւ սատակեցաւ ի Մանուէլէ իբրեւ զառաջինն:
| 40:1 Then a certain Varaz, general of the king of Iran, came to the country of Armenia with [180000] troops to war with sparapet Manuel and with the entire Armenian brigade:
| 40:1 Ապա յետ այսորիկ Վարազ ոմն զօրավար թագաւորին Պարսից գայր հասանէր ութուտասն բիւրու յերկիրն Հայոց, տալ պատերազմ ընդ Մանուէլի ընդ սպարապետին, եւ ընդ ամենայն գնդին Հայոց:
| 40:2 Armenia’s sparapet general Manuel organized and prepared [10000] armed cavalrymen and came to war against Varaz:
| 40:2 Ապա կազմէր պատրաստէր սպարապետն զօրավարն Հայոց Մանուէլ հեծեալս սպառազէնս տասն հազար, եւ եկեալ տայր պատերազմ ընդ Վարազայ:
| 40:3 He struck and killed, exterminating, and killing the principal, Varaz. He took a huge amount of loot, the ornaments and weapons of the troops, and returned in great peace:
| 40:3 Հարկանէր եւ սատակէր, ջնջէր զնոսա ի միջոյ, եւ գլխովին զՎարազն սպանանէր. թափէր զկապուտ սաստիկ, զզարդ եւ զզէն զօրացն, եւ դառնայր մեծաւ խաղաղութեամբ:
