31:0 About Gumand Shapuh, who boasted greatly in the presence of the Iranian king Shapuh. He came to Armenia with [100000] troops, but departed the country of the Armenians defeated:
| 31:0 Յաղագս Գումանդ Շապհոյ, որ մեծաւ պարծանօք պարծեալ առաջի արքային Պարսից Շապհոյ, եւ առեալ ածէր ի վերայ աշխարհին Հայոց իննհարեւր հազար զօրս. եւ կամ զիա՛րդ նկուն լինէին, չարաչար մերժեալ լինէին յաշխարհէն Հայոց:

31:1 Next came Gumand Shapuh, sent by Shapuh, king of Iran before whom he had boasted, with [900000] troops:
| 31:1 Եւ եղեւ յետ այսորիկ գայր հասանէր Գումանդ Շապուհ, առաքեալ ի Շապուհոյ արքայէ Պարսից իննհարիւր հազարաւ, պարծեցեալ առաջի թագաւորին:

31:2 He reached the land of Armenia, having as a guide the notorious Meruzhan of the Arcrunik tohm, who was from the country of Armenia:
| 31:2 Եւ գնացեալ, գայր հասանէր յաշխարհն Հայոց. եւ առաջնորդ ունէր ի ձեռին զՄերուժանն վատանշան, որ էր յԱրծրունեաց տոհմէն յերկրէն Հայոց:

31:3 Finding the border-guards who protected Armenia’s boundaries negligent:
| 31:3 Ապա գայր հասանէր, եւ զեղծ գտանէր զսահմանապահսն` որք պահէին զսահմանս Հայոց:

31:4 the Iranians filled up and spread throughout the entire country of Armenia, looting, demolishing, and ruining the entire realm of Armenia:
| 31:4 Ապա լցան սփռեցան ծաւալեցան ընդ ամենայն երկիրն Հայոց, աւար առնուլ քանդել աւերել զերկիրն ամենայն Հայոց աշխարհին:

31:5 Then the general of Armenia, Vasak, organized and prepared, reached and fell upon the royal brigade. First, he killed Gumand Shapuh:
| 31:5 Ապա կազմէր պատրաստէր Վասակ զօրավարն Հայոց, հասանէր անկանէր ի վերայ արքայագնդին. եւ նախ զԳումանդ Շապուհն սպանանէր:

31:6 After this the Armenians spread around, exterminating all the Iranian troops:
| 31:6 Եւ ապա ընդ ցիրն ասպատակ սփռեալ հայացիքն, զամենայն զօրսն Պարսից կոտորեալ, անմի արարեալ սպառեցին:

31:7 Only the malefactor, Meruzhan, escaped by a hairsbreadth, fleeing on a horse to the country of Iran:
| 31:7 Բայց միայն չարագործն Մերուժանն միաձի ճողոպրեալ, փախչէր անկանէր յերկիրն Պարսից:
