16:1 Concerning the death of Yusik’s sons and the succession of P’aṙnerseh to the patriarchal throne:

16:2 The Armenian princes sought from Tiran a worthy man to be elevated to the episcopate in place of Yusik:
| 16:2 Բայց ի Տիրանայ խնդրեն նախարարքն Հայոց այր արժանի` կացուցանել յեպիսկոպոսութիւն փոխանակ Յուսկան:

16:3 for his sons were unworthy of that apostolic throne because of their unpraise-worthy lives. Furthermore, they were overtaken in those days by a most fearful death that would inspire terror in its hearers. At the same spot they were both struck by lightning; they were called Pap and At’anagenēs. They did not leave any adult children suitable for that position, save a young son of At’anagenēs’ called Nersēs. He was being educated in Caesarea and at that moment had gone to Byzantium to marry the daughter of a great noble, Aspion:
| 16:3 Քանզի որդւոցն նորին ոչ գովելի վարս ստացեալ` անարժանք եղեն այնմ առաքելականին աթոռոյ. այլ եւ մահ եւս հասեալ նոցա յաւուրսն յայնս, յոյժ ահագին եւ սարսափման լսողաց արժանաւոր, ի միում տեղւոջ շանթահար եղեալ երկոցունցն, որոց Պապ եւ Աթանագենէս կոչէին անուանքն. ոչ թողլով զաւակ հասակեայ պատշաճ այնմ, բայց մանուկ մի որդի Աթանագենի, որում Ներսէս անուն ճանաչէր, որ ի Կեսարիայ էր ի հրահանգս, եւ զայնու ժամանակաւ գնացեալ ի Բիւզանդիոն` առնուլ կին զդուստր Ասպիոնայ ուրումն իշխանի մեծի:

16:4 And since there was no man from Gregory’s family, they elected a certain P’aṙnerseh from Ashtishat in Tarawn and made him patriarch in the tenth year of Tiran. He occupied the throne for four years:
| 16:4 Եւ վասն ոչ կալոյ այր յազգէ Գրիգորի, ընտրեցին զՓառներսեհ ոմն յԱշտիշատից Տարաւնոյ, եւ կացուցին քահանայապետ ի տասներորդ ամի Տիրանայ. որ կալաւ զաթոռն ամս չորս:
