5:101 In addition to all this mischief it turned out that he had stolen the tax of the country which went to the royal Treasury:
| 5:101 Եւ ի վերայ այսր ամենայնի վնասու, եւ գող եւս գտանէր հարկի աշխարհին, որ յարքունիսն երթայր:

5:102 There were also many of his apostate friends who revealed the crimes he had committed against Armenia:
| 5:102 Նա եւ յուրացեալ ընկերացն նորա բազումք էին, որ յայտ արարին զչարիս նորա, զոր գործեալ էր ընդ աշխարհն Հայոց:
|
5:103 And the surviving magi and lifeguards, who had been kept in prison and had later been brought to court, were questioned about him: “What do you know about his wrongdoing:
| 5:103 Եւ ի մնացեալ մոգացն եւ ի փշտիպանացն, որք ի կապանսն ապրեալ էին եւ ապա ածին յարքունիս, հարցին եւ ցնոսա վասն նորա եւ ասեն. « Դուք է՞ք ինչ տեղեակ վասն չարութեան նորա:

5:104 They replied: “That man was the cause and author of these calamities: all the tortures which we endured, the great losses inflicted on the royal army, the ruin and captivity of Armenia, and the loss of the royal taxes:
| 5:104 Ետուն պատասխանի եւ ասեն. « Ամենայն անցք չարչարանաց, որ անցին ընդ մեզ, եւ բազում հարուածք, որ եղեն ի զաւրսն արքունի, եւ աւեր եւ գերութիւն աշխարհին Հայոց, եւ կորուստ հարկացն արքունի, սկիզբն եւ առաջնորդ չարեաց այրդ այդ եղեւ:

5:105 While all these accusations against him were being repeated for so many days, his own relatives—who had also earlier denounced him before the king—came forward. They began to expound and reveal in order how he had made friends with Heran the Hun in concert with the king of Balas; this was at the time that Heran had slaughtered the Persian troops in Albania and had raided the land of the Greeks, carrying off many prisoners and much plunder from the Greeks, Armenians, Georgians, and Albanians. They also indicated how the king himself had learned of his intentions and had slain the king of Balas:
| 5:105 Եւ մինչդեռ այս ամենայն ամբաստանութիւն զնմանէ էր զայնչափ բազում աւուրս, յառաջ մատեան եւ իւր ազգականքն, որ եւս յառաջագոյն դատախազ լեալ էին զնմանէ առաջի արքային, սկսան կարգաւ ցուցանել եւ յայտ առնել, որպէս զի բարեկամացեալ էր նա ընդ Հեռանայ Հոնի միաբանութեամբ Բաղասական արքային, ի ժամանակին՝ զի կոտորեաց Հեռանն այն զզաւրսն Պարսից յԱղուանս, եւ ասպատակաւ եհաս յերկիրն Յունաց, եւ բազում գերի եւ աւար խաղացոյց ի Հոռոմոց եւ ի Հայոց եւ ի Վրաց եւ յԱղուանից. որպէս զի ի վերայ իսկ եհաս խորհրդոցն ինքն իսկ թագաւորն, եւ սպան զԲաղասական արքայ:

5:106 At that time Vasak was governor of Armenia and he had been found to be in collusion with the king’s enemies:
| 5:106 Եւ Վասակ մարզպան էր Հայոց ի ժամանակին, եւ թշնամեացն արքունի խորհրդակից գտաւ:
|
5:107 These relatives also revealed how they had been privy to his wicked plans. All this they made public before the king, as well as many other deceits: he behaved falsely not only to his friends but most of all toward the king himself, and from his youth he had never acquitted himself honestly:
| 5:107 Ցուցին եւ յայտ արարին ազգականքն նորա, որպէս զի հմուտ եւ տեղեակ իսկ էին չար խորհրդոցն նորա. զամենայն ցուցանէին եւ յայտ առնէին առաջի թագաւորին. եւ զայլ եւս բազմագոյն խարդախութիւնսն, որ ստութեամբ վարէր զկեանս իւր՝ ո՛չ միայն առ ընկերս, այլ եւ առ թագաւորն ինքնին գլխովին. զի ոչ երբէք արդարութեամբ վաստակեալ էր ի մանկութենէ:

5:108 Then the hazarapet gave the order: “Bring here some of the prisoners who are in gaol:
| 5:108 Յայնմ ժամանակի հրաման ետ հազարապետն եւ ասէ. « Ածէք այսր եւ ի կապելոցն, որք են ի բանտի անդ:
|
5:109 They unbound and brought in Sahak, bishop of Rshtunik, Saint Yovsep, and the priest Ḷevond from among the blessed men:
| 5:109 Լուծին եւ ածին յերանելեացն զՍահակ եպիսկոպոս Ռշտունեաց, եւ զսուրբն Յովսէփ եւ զՂեւոնդ երէց:

5:110 When all the court proceedings had been explained to them, Bishop Sahak responded: “Those who have openly denied the True God do not realize what they are doing or what they are saying, for their minds are darkened. They serve their lords for the wrong reasons and enter into a false covenant with their friends:
| 5:110 Եւ իբրեւ մերկացան ամենայն բանք ատենին առաջի նոցա, ետ պատասխանի Սահակ եպիսկոպոսն եւ ասէ. « Որ յայտնի ուրացեալն են ի ճշմարիտն Աստուծոյ, ոչ գիտեն զինչ գործեն եւ կամ զինչ խաւսին. քանզի խաւարային են խորհուրդք նոցա. զտեարս պաշտեն սուտ պատճառանաւք, եւ ընդ ընկերս մտանեն յուխտ ստութեան:

5:111 They are Satan’s snare, because through them he carries out his cruel will—as is clear with this Vasak:
| 5:111 Եւ են նոքա դարանք սատանայի, զի նոքաւք իսկ կատարէ զդառնութիւն կամացն իւրոց, որպէս երեւի իսկ ի դոյն յայդ Վասակ:

5:112 For while he was nominally a Christian, he thought he could outwardly cover up and hide all his wickedness from your unwitting majesty; and he did conceal all his treachery with his Christianity:
| 5:112 Քանզի մինչ ունէր զանուն քրիստոնէութեան, վերին երեսաւք կարծէր ծածկել եւ թագուցանել զամենայն չարութիւն իւր առաջի ձերոյ անգէտ տէրութեանդ, եւ զամենայն նենգութիւնն իւր քրիստոնէութեամբն ծածկէր:

5:113 So, you respected him and greatly honored him above his worth:
| 5:113 Ուստի եւ ձեր իսկ կարծեցեալ՝ մեծապէս պատուեցէք զդա առաւել քան զարժանն իւր:
|
5:114 You entrusted him with the land of Georgia. Ask that country if its people are satisfied with him:
| 5:114 Հաւատացէք դմա զաշխարհն Վրաց. հարցէք ցաշխարհն, եթէ գո՞հ իցեն զդմանէ:
|
5:115 You gave him authority over Siunik. Listen to what his kin say about him. You made him governor of Armenia:
| 5:115 Ետուք դմա զտէրութիւնն Սիւնեաց. լուարո՛ւք յազգականաց այտի դորա, զի՞նչ պատմեն զդմանէ:
|
5:116 And the land which your forefathers had gained by great effort, he lost it all in a single year:
| 5:116 Արարէք զդա մարզպան Հայոց. զոր նախնեացն ձերոց մեծաւ աշխատութեամբ գտեալ էր, դա ի միում ամի կորոյս զերկիրն ամենայն:

5:117 Have you seen that when the honorable name of God, which he falsely bore, was removed from him all his villainy was laid bare:
| 5:117 Տեսե՞ր, իբրեւ բարձաւ ի դմանէ պատուական անունն Աստուծոյ, զոր ունէր ստութեամբ, մերկ երեւեցաւ ամենայն չարագործութիւն դորա:

5:118 For if he has been shown to be false to his God, to whom among mortals will he be true:
| 5:118 Զի եթէ առ Աստուածն իւր սուտ գտաւ, առ ո՞ ոք ի մահկանացուաց աստի դա արդար գտցի:
|
5:119 But had you not heard before all the charges against him which have now been uncovered? For whatever reason you concealed them, you yourself know best:
| 5:119 Արդ ամենայն ամբաստանութիւն՝ որ այժմ յայտնի եղեւ զդմանէ, ո՞չ ահա ձեր իսկ յառաջագոյն լուեալ էր. բայց յոր դէմս ծածկեցէքն՝ դուք ձեզէն իսկ քաջ գիտէք:

5:120 It seems to me that he has diverted you with false hopes:
| 5:120 Ինձ այսպէս թուի, եթէ սուտ յուսով դա զձեզ խնդացոյց:
|
5:121 But neither you, nor he, nor anyone to come after you will be able to see that in us:
| 5:121 Այլ ոչ դուք եւ ոչ դա եւ ոչ որ զկնի ձեր գալոցն է, զայն ի մեզ ոչ կարէ տեսանել:
|
5:122 So, do as you wish; why ask us:
| 5:122 Արդ արարէք որպէս եւ կամիք. ցմեզ զի՞ հարցանէք:
|
5:123 The great hazarapet’s mind was astonished, and he carefully reflected on all the proceedings of the tribunal:
| 5:123 Զարմացաւ մեծ հազարապետն ընդ միտս իւր, եւ ի խորհուրդս իւր քննէր զամենայն բանս ատենին:
|
5:124 Since he realized that the man had rightly been condemned for his unworthy deeds, he entered the palace and expounded all the proceedings of the tribunal:
| 5:124 Քանզի հասեալ էր ի վերայ, եթէ յիրաւի դատապարտեցաւ այրն ըստ անարժան գործոցն իւրոց. եմուտ եւ եցոյց զամենայն բանս ատենին յարքունիս:

5:125 When the king had been informed by the hazarapet of the man’s guilt, he was exceedingly angry and deeply hurt. But wishing to be patient in bringing ignominy on him:
| 5:125 Եւ իբրեւ լուաւ թագաւորն եւ ստուգեաց ի հազարապետէն զառնն պարտաւորութիւն, բարկացաւ յոյժ եւ ի խոր խոցեցաւ. բայց երկայնմտութեամբ կամեցաւ հասուցանել զնա ի մեծ անարգութիւն:
