13:301 Even if we give it much nourishment, it is greatly hungry; and if we give none at all, it goes out completely. If we approach and worship, it burns us; but if we do not come near at all, it turns to ashes:
| 13:301 Եթէ շատ մատուցանեմք նմա զկերակուրն, յոյժ քաղցնու. եւ եթէ բնաւ չտամք, ամենեւին անցանէ. եւ եթէ մաւտ երթամք եւ երկիր պագանեմք, կիզու զմեզ. եւ եթէ ոչ երթամք մաւտ ամենեւին, մոխիր լինի:

13:302 Such is the extent of our comprehension of its nature. ’:
| 13:302 Մեր այդպէս հասեալ է վերայ բնութեան դորա:

13:303 Again, I said to them: ’Have you then heard who taught you such error? ’:
| 13:303 Ասեմ դարձեալ ցնոսա. Իսկ լուեա՞լ է ձեր՝ եթէ ո՛յր ուսուցեալ է ձեզ զայդպիսի մոլորութիւն:

13:304 They replied, saying: ’Why do you question us merely for the sake of hearing? Look at the facts before you: our legislators are only blind in their minds; but our king is blind in one bodily eye, while his spirit has no eyes at all. ’:
| 13:304 Ետուն պատասխանի եւ ասեն. Զի՞ ի լսելոյ հարցանես զմեզ, այլ հայեաց ընդ առաջիկայ իրսդ. զի աւրէնսդիրքն մեր հոգւովք մտաց միայն կուրացեալ են, այլ թագաւորն մեր մարմնով միով ակամբն կոյր է, այլ ոգւոյն բնաւ չիք իսկ աչք:

13:305 So, when I heard this from the magi, I greatly pitied them, for in their ignorance they spoke the truth:
| 13:305 Վասն այնորիկ եւ ես իբրեւ լուայ զայս ի մոգուցն, յոյժ ողորմեցայ. զի տգիտութեամբ զարդարն խաւսեցան:

13:306 I beat them a little with the rod, made them throw the fire into the water, and note: ’May the gods who did not create heaven and earth perish beneath heaven. ’ And then I threw out the magi:
| 13:306 Սակաւիկ մի չարչարեցի զնոսա գանիւ, եւ նոցուն իսկ ետու զկրակն ի ջուրն ընկենուլ, եւ ասացի այսպէս. աստուածք, որ զերկինս եւ զերկիր ոչ արարին, կորիցեն ի ներքոյ երկնից. եւ ապա զմոգսն ի բաց արձակեցի:

13:307 When Denshapuh had heard all this from the mouth of the holy bishop, he was extremely terrified at the insults to the king and the disrespect for his religion:
| 13:307 Զայս ամենայն իբրեւ լուաւ Դենշապուհ ի բերանոյ սուրբ եպիսկոպոսին, անհնարին զահի հարաւ ի թշնամանաց թագաւորին եւ յանարգանաց դենին:

13:308 Therefore, he was afraid to inflict torments on him lest perchance he might cause him to say even more insulting things about the king in the tribunal, and suspicion be thrown upon himself for those insults because he had disputed patiently with them:
| 13:308 Վասն որոյ եւ երկեաւ իսկ մատուցանել զնա ի տանջանս հարուածոց, թէ գուցէ այլ եւս մեծ անարգանս զթագաւորէն տացէ ասել յատենին, եւ ի նա ձգիցին կարծիք թշնամանացն, զի երկայնմտութեամբ պայքարեցաւ ընդ նոսա:

13:309 And since he was sitting in the tribunal girt with a sword to instill awe into the saints, roaring like an enraged lion he drew the sword and wildly set upon the blessed ones; he struck the bishop behind the right shoulder and cut off his hand:
| 13:309 Եւ քանզի սուսեր ընդ մէջ ածեալ նստէր յատենի ահ արկանելով սրբոցն, գոչեաց իբրեւ զառեւծ զայրագին, եւ հանեալ զսուսերն՝ գազանաբար յարձակեցաւ ի վերայ երանելեացն, եւ եհար եպիսկոպոսին զաջ ուսն թիկամբն հետ եւ զձեռն ի վայր ընկէց:

13:310 The bishop fell to the ground on his left side; then raising himself again he picked up his right hand and loudly cried: “Receive, Lord, this willing sacrifice whereby I have offered myself totally to you, and enroll me in the ranks of your holy soldiers:
| 13:310 Եւ նորա յահեակ կողմն յերկիր անկեալ, եւ դարձեալ անդրէն պատսպարէր, առնոյր զաջ ձեռն ի վեր. աղաղակեաց մեծաձայն եւ ասէ. « Ընկալ, Տէր, զկամաւոր պատարագս՝ որ ինձէն զիս քեզ մատուցի բոլորովիմբ, եւ խառնեա զիս ի գունդս սուրբ զինուորացն քոց:

13:311 Furthermore, he encouraged his companions, saying: “Now my virtuous ones, the hour of our martyrdom has arrived. Shut the eyes of the body for a moment and you will see straightaway our hope, Christ:
| 13:311 Դարձեալ քաջալերէր զընկերակիցսն իւր եւ ասէր. « Հա՛պա առաքինիք, եհաս ժամ կատարման մերոյ. խցէք զաչս մարմնոյ վայր մի, եւ այժմ տեսանէք զյոյսն մեր Քրիստոս:

13:312 Then rolling in his own blood he note: “I shall bless the Lord at all times; his praise will be continuously in my mouth:
| 13:312 Եւ թաւալելով ընդ արիւն անձինն իւրոյ ասէր. « Աւրհնեցի՜ց զՏէր յամենայն ժամ, հանապազ աւրհնութիւն նորա ի բերան իմ:
|
13:313 My soul will boast in the Lord; the meek will hear and be glad:
| 13:313 Ի տէր պարծեսցի անձն իմ, լուիցեն հեզք եւ ուրախ եղիցին:
|
13:314 This psalm he recited as far as this place: “The just have many tribulations; but the Lord preserves them from everything and protects all their bones:
| 13:314 Եւ ասելով զսաղմոսս զայս կատարէր մինչեւ ցայս տեղի. Բազում նեղութիւնք են արդարոց. յամենայնէ փրկէ զնոսա Տէր եւ պահէ զամենայն ոսկերս նոցա:

13:315 While there still remained a little strength in his body, even with his own eyes he saw companies of numerous angels coming from heaven and six crowns in the hand of the archangel:
| 13:315 Եւ մինչդեռ կայր ոյժ ի մարմնոյն սակաւիկ մի, իւրովք աչաւք իսկ հայեցեալ՝ տեսանէր յերկնից եկեալ գունդս բազում հրեշտակաց եւ վեց պսակ ի ձեռին հրեշտակապետին:

13:316 He also heard a voice from above, saying: “Take courage, my friends; for behold you have forgotten your lives of suffering and have attained your blessed crowns, which you fashioned through your own skill. Take them, and place them on each one’s head:
| 13:316 Դարձեալ եւ լսէր եւս բարբառ ի վերուստ, որ ասէր. « Քաջալերեցարուք, սիրելիք իմ, զի ահա մոռացայք զվշտալի կեանսդ, եւ հասէք երանելի պսակացդ, որ ձերով ճարտարութեամբդ կազմեցէք. առէք դիք յիւրաքանչիւր գլուխ:

13:317 For the material has been prepared and shaped by you, but the art of your labor has been fashioned by the all-holy hands of Christ. Receiving them now from his servants, you are crowned with Stephen:
| 13:317 Զի նիւթ պատրաստական ի ձէնջ գործեալ հիւթեցաւ, իսկ ճարտարութիւն գործոյդ յամենասուրբ ձեռացն Քրիստոսի կազմեցաւ. զոր ի սպասաւորաց այտի իսկ ընկալեալ՝ ընդ Ստեփանոսի լինիք պսակակից:

13:318 He also saw distinctly that the sword was still glinting over the necks of the blessed ones:
| 13:318 Նա եւ զայն եւս քաջապէս տեսանէր, զի դեռ եւս շողայր սուրն ի վերայ պարանոցի երանելեացն:
|
13:319 When Saint Ḷevond saw that they no longer intended to question and condemn them one by one but that a general order for their death had been given, he said to the blessed Yoseph: “Approach, confront the sword, for you are superior in rank to us all:
| 13:319 Զոր իբրեւ ետես սուրբն Ղեւոնդ, եթէ ոչ եւս զմի մի կամին հարցանել եւ դատել, այլ միանգամայն հրաման եղեւ մահու, ասէ ցերանելին Յովսէփ. « Մատիր, յառաջեա ընդդէմ սրոյն, զի դու աստիճանաւ ի վեր ես քան զամենեսեան:

13:320 After he had said this, they arranged themselves in order, and the executioners made great haste to cut off the blessed ones’ heads all at once and throw them before the holy bishop. And he, giving up the spirit, cried out: “Lord Jesus, receive all our souls and join us to the company of your dear ones:
| 13:320 Եւ զայս իբրեւ ասաց, կարգեցան կացին մի ըստ միոջէ. եւ առ ճեպ տագնապի ստիպելոյ դահճացն՝ միանգամայն հատին ընկեցին զպարանոցս երանելեացն առաջի սուրբ եպիսկոպոսին. եւ նորա ընդ հանել ոգւոցն աղաղակեաց եւ ասէ. « Տէր Յիսուս, ընկալ զոգիս մեր ամենեցուն, եւ խառնեա զմեզ ի գունդս սիրելեացն քոց:

13:321 So, they were all martyred at the same time in the same place:
| 13:321 Եւ միանգամայն կատարեցան ամենեքեան ի նմին տեղւոջ:

13:322 If you wish to reckon among their number also the chief-magus who believed in Christ, they were seven, not including the two martyred in Vardes and another bishop called Tatik in Asorestan:
| 13:322 Եւ եթէ զմոգպետն եւս, որ հաւատաց ի Քրիստոս, կամիցիս ընդ նոսա ի համար արկանել, թուով են եւթն. թող զերկուսն եւս, որ ի Վարդէսն կատարեցան, եւ մեւս եպիսկոպոսն Թաթիկ անուն յԱսորեստանի:

13:323 But the names of the six who all died in that spot are as follows:
| 13:323 Բայց անդէն ի տեղւոջն վեցեքին, որոց անուանքն են այսոքիկ:
